Love-absolutely brilliant job Dan and Simon, and huge credit to the coaches who are avoiding delving into staged or scripted drama. Authentic, and focused on the performance. Chapeau.
hope she takes this as a motivation and take advantage of this experience. Would like to see her grow and be an amazing elite pro cyclist on the near future
Sam is a beast and the Alpecin managers brushing it off is laughable
I think it comes down to: they designed the race with the intention of getting specific details about how the riders handled certain situations, but by blowing it up, Sam didn't give them that data.
He gave them different data, and very impressive data, but those things they probably already knew.
Couldn’t agree more. He could win everything till the finish and still don’t think he could get the contract. I personally think he would offer the team the most. The other light riders are punchy and decent but wouldn’t offer much to the team in a race
It will be interesting to see what is valued. His skills lend to breakaways, being a beast of a domestique, TT rider or lead out train guy. Hope they don't just focus on a punchy type for the contract.
He did much the same thing at an NRS race this year, a massive talent.
Somehow they thought an outright show of strength was less impressive than if he just hung around and crushed them on every climb like a Saturday bunch! If he'd done that they would have criticised him for toying around. It's bizarre!
Maud is riding at 204-205bpm but her face says 140bpm :)
I love this series. But I have to say I am not a fan at all of the elimination format. I understand it makes for entertainment drama. But these incredible young people had to overcome so much to earn a spot in the finals. It is a shame to not allow each of them to experience the full adventure of a lifetime by being able to participate in the entire program.
They should’ve all stayed for the full duration then announce the winner.
@@JQ0110 Hi Arne, Not surprisingly, I totally agree. "Too much" is a perfect description. Sadly, whoever made the decision to add the elimination element didn't understand that these young people striving to do their best is more than enough drama. Inspirational too! Removing 4 of the 10 cyclists before the end is something I hope GCN does not do next year, if they continue to involve themselves with the competition.

I agree, do what is best for the entrants, not the production. Unlike other “reality” shows, this is not a game.

Strange to see all the negative comments coming from the coaches towards Sam. He is clearly the strongest rider which is not everything of course but looking at the type of riders at Alpecin he fits in quite well.
I suspect the team already made up their mind about what type of rider they want to to complement the existing team, to fill in the gaps. I am guessing Sam 'Diesel ' isn't what they are after so they are downplaying his achievement. I dont really follow racing so I don't know the make up of the team already.
agreed. for this guy to stay ahead solo in a race like that... that's a massive engine and he can climb well enough on the punchier stuff to actually be useful to other team mates.

Well worth getting out of bed at 0130am to watch. Well done to one and all and sorry to see these two young riders eliminated but they have so much to be proud of for making this far. In the top ten in the world is no easy feat. Much respect.

Living in Richmond I liked to see the home course on display. It is a pretty rude course with super punchy climbs. I’m partial to Caitlyn but holy shit Maud is a machine. It didn’t even look like the Zwift race was hard for them….. I am however betting day four, the proper LONG climb, will really suit Caitlyn. I have seen her climb away from me on 20 minute climbs, while still smiling 😅
Overwhelmingly inspirational to see these amazing young talents, staring down the possibility of failure and giving it their all in pursuit of the ultimate dream! They are all winners!
What a challenge! These guys are incredible athletes and its brilliant to see their level of fitness and their different game plans! Brutal that some have to go home but it adds another level of spiciness to the competition! So glad you released back to back nights! I’m not sure I could have waited 5 weeks for the results!

Absolutely loving it! Would love some more simultaneous split screen real time views of the riders on their bikes and their in game race positions too. It’s so exciting but would love more of the action/actual riding to also feature 😍

What an amazing experience. They've all worked so hard I hope they all satisfy their dreams in the future. I wish they could keep their bikes but I think the experience would be so great already. The guys play their part so well too, this has to be the best thing on any screen this week easily

The surprise elimination felt cheap and didn't force the shock factor the producers were hoping for. You have a chance to make a credible 'reality' show here, you should stop following trends and start making some of your own.
Second that! No need to eliminate athletes, in an effort to capture a cheap shot. "Pain is temporary, elimination lasts forever."
absolutely agree. felt a shabby way to treat them esp given zwift's commitment to diversity, mental health etc and the attention gcn has paid to the same. they are just kids, not experienced, and you have to worry what a surprise elimination might do to their confidence. plus all five fighting it out to the end would've been more entertaining. it's supposed to be about cycling, not making a reality show. great viewing otherwise bu this was disappointing.
I am absolutely loving this series! Seriously impressed by Maud but also by Rachel, talk about going deep! Will be interesting to see how they fair against Caitlyn on the climb tomorrow 👀 I feel like the coaches weren’t that impressed by Sam’s win (or maybe it’s just their general cool demeanours?) which I thought was tactically very impressive, and presumably would be useful in a team to sit in the break all day! (P.s. Dan and Si are giving massive Ant and Dec vibes)

I'm confused, did the finalists know going into the day that an elimination would take place? Or were they told moments before the unlucky riders were dropped from the program? If the latter, that seems incredibly disrespectful. This isn't actually a reality show. Could do without the gut wrenching twists. These people are competitors, they know how to take a win and know how to take a loss. No need to spring this sort of news on them at the last moment
(if they were told in advance I'll eat my words) but more broadly, as entertaining as this is - and it is really well done! - it does feel a bit weird to have their hopes and dreams being made into entertainment

It seems mean to kick people out one or two at a time. Just have them all stay in until the end, and declare the winners then instead of singling people out.
I think it's mercy. I can't imagine it's fun competing when you're being handily being spit out the back already, especially since there's only one spot up for grabs. The challenges are only going to get harder.
@@torontogonzo Perhaps, though I've always thought with these types of shows it was instead for drama, and so that they could further focus in on the main characters they develop later in the show so that the audience becomes more attached to them. Regardless, this is still a good show, and very interesting to watch. The W/kg of these people is out of this world.
Drama draws the crowds which in turn pays the bills and provides shareholders with a return
Brilliant, even if you get eliminated from the competition these riders will pick up a contract and race professionally.

Guys, I love it. It's actually a kind of reality TV, which I hate generally and usually avoid it. But this is great stuff. The participants are great. Their enthusiasm is infectious.
Yeah, and unlike most reality TV these days they aren't trying to manufacture tension or drama.
Love this show! Some things - like Dan and Si’s moderation or the elimination process - are still kinda cringey, but I am sure the next editions will iron these things out. Some things that I’d like to see (of course, super subjective):
- put Zwift riders into different jerseys than pro teams so you can tell them apart (or maybe just some orange Zwift helmets)
- show more of the riders on their bikes (I think this time we only saw about a minute of their morning ride)
- give some more personal detail on the riders - after all this is put together exactly like a reality show, so the audience needs some more info on why they should care about the riders

A bit of a contrarian opinion: I do not like the reality show format. Feels like I am watching people suffer for my entertainment. These are aspirational and highly talented people, and making this into a reality show feels like we are just playing with their emotions for our entertainment.
I understand that pros are doing something very similar to this.... but do we get to see them cry at their lowest point? Or send them home early from a season because they are not as good as the others? This just made me feel very weird.
Gotta agree about the elimination. Seems like a trick to generate drama for the video. What's to say one of those riders might not just dominate in a later day? It also disturbs the team spirit. Sure, they are fiercely competing, but they also have to work together to be at their best.

Well done - ZWIFT, GCN, SRAM CANYON and ALPECIN FENIX, this is an amazing series and what a great pathway for potential everyday riders to turn into Pro Cycling. Opportunities that no one would ever imagine previously, KUDOS!
Great series. Maud for sure will become a pro, she is young and she displayed perfect tactics and that 6 WKG looked so easy.
For the men things are more difficult, I think Sam is best rider, but maybe he isn't what the team is looking for. He easly won this challenge but lets be real, the others were more worried about each others than working together and catching Sam, this was Sam win condition and they handed to him this "easy" win.

I just love these battles. Anyone care to explain what the riders have on their left arm? Blood sugar sensor? If so, why? Thanks.
My guess would be a lactate sensor, given they had the lactate data on the first episode. And provide additional data on physiology.

Good on her. The only sham is after 140k people how big the gaps actually are. You'd think you would have all 8 people within a few seconds of each other after such a big pool to choose from.
