  • It's the last day of the Zwift Academy Finals and just six riders remain. For the final challenge, finalists will have to battle it out in the race arena, tackling some of Zwift's toughest climbs in their last chance to impress the Team Judges. The life changing pro team contracts at Alpecin-Fenix and CANYON//SRAM are within touching distance, but only two finalists will walk away victorious. It all comes down to this! #zwiftacademy

Very simple really. Sam, nice guy, extremely strong but mostly one tactic of going flat out. Thats not going to work as a domestique and even worse was his bike handling, this is what would have put the coaches of most as he would get dropped in peleton on the simplest of descents even when they are coasting down. Alex produced good stats, has all round ability and at 19 he will develop even more, he is a punchy rider and can see he has race craft also. I really dont see the issue here. I would also have picked Cooper way before Sam as he is very strong, fast and very determined and lot to offer a team, unfortunately this challenge is geared to be more for all rounder and not for sprinter type riders. Only was a sprinter type would win is if they beat Merlier in the lead out challenge lol

I can understand that they are professionals and have spotted, picked and trained great riders, but god were the Alpecin guys negative about Sam. Alex was great and probably deserved to win. But even when they had something positive to say about Cooper including giving him excuses like "He's only a sprinter", they couldn't say ONE good thing about Sam. Always the same broken tape recorder "Diesel engine, Holding steady power for long time is useless,Abuse power". Seriously? Not one good thing about a Zwift academy finalist amongst 150,000 people and having won 2 races and never finishing outside top2? Seriously? They could have said "He's doing well, but he's not somebody we are looking for at the moment". But not a single compliment? That was absolutely pathetic.

What a talented group of riders, and lovely people as well. Thank you to Zwift for doing this and GCN for covering it. I think it would have been better, however, with less of the "Reality TV" aspects. Clearly I'm in the minority on this (I took a brief look through the comments), but I think the riders were under enough pressure already without having to only learn that there would be an elimination until shortly before it happened for example. But I'm old and crabby (well into the "Get off my lawn" part of my life), so maybe it's just me.
