Let's all give respect to Alain who not only has to speak a second language for an entire race but has to understand the English of a stone-cold Yorkshireman 😁
I’m not even an avid cyclist or follow the sport, but I love your channel. A great group of likable presenters, beautiful locations, and top notch production quality. You guys are great
my thoughts exactly. can we please appreciate how he's casually pacing up the Poggio while talking as if he only just started the ride a couple minutes ago? Also: nice to see the bikes specked with sram rival axs. maybe the "wireless groupset of the people"?
@@whatwelearned I equipped it on my new build and I can only recommend it (was running 105 on my old bike). Buying new hubs, cassettes and new bleeding tools was a bit of a pain, but I wouldn't go back ;)
Fantastic part 2 to the last Ollie and Alain “ I need a Panini “ one day adventure. Well done chaps for making the journey. Keep these videos coming. Great to see the Vitus bikes in action as well.
Great on-screen chemistry between these two. It makes an already great film into an absolute epic: Many thanks for making this. I too would love to see Ollie 'kick-ass' on a longer distance presenters' race: Time he got the kudos he deserves....
One of my good friends did MSR in 1959, and finished with the field. Speeds were slower back then. They averaged 41.6 kph. He doesn't remember if they had 4 or 5 cogs in back in 1959.
"Because he's the amateur GCN deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we'll make fun of him getting dropped. Because he can take it. Because he's not our amateur. He has a Phd in chemistry. A cyclist. A GCN presenter."
You know you're all in with the video when you're watching on the trainer and digging in when they're climbing and freewheeling their descents! Great stuff
Thank you for making this video, I really enjoyed it. As a teenager in the 80s, I dreamed of being a pro. Riders like LeMond, Hampsten, and the 7-Eleven team especially fueled those dreams. As you might guess, I am American. As you might also have guessed, turning pro is not as easy as you might hope, and I was nowhere close to doing so. Living vicariously through videos such as this gives me hope for at least riding the same course some day.
Olly is so fit. Full respects to do 190miles at that pace and still look good at the end of it. Great video and got me excited about the up coming cycle season again after a winter on zwift.
With the weather in Central Europe to be such an extreme this weekend I was sucking every bit of sunshine from this shots. Beautiful and always sunny Italia! Amazing! Cheers guys 🙂
Nothing stops Ollie's narration. He could be donating a kidney and he would take off his glasses, comment how glad he was it wasn't raining in the operating room and give a quick history of vascular surgery.
I like how it seems Alan was informed about the episode just the night before, I like to imagine the conversation went like this: GCN: "Alan we thought it would be fun if you and Oliie Bridgewood did Milano-San Remo" Alan: "Thanks for thinking about me I'm sure I can do a good race analyses and Ollie is good keeping conversation up" GCN: "No Alan you didn't understand... we meant you have to ride the course" Alan: "What?! So it's like a bike packing trip on the roads of a monument?" GCN: "No it's in a single day" Alan: "You're joking right? it's impossible... we should start from Milan like... at 6 o'clock in the morning" GCN: "Actually... we estimated to get in San Remo before sunset you should start at 5 o'cock" Alan: "@#*@#!!#@!... like... I mean #*##@!@#@*!!!... ok... ok" GCN: "And it's tomorrow" Alan: "@#*@#!!#@!... #*##@!@#@*!!!"@#*@#!!#@!... #*##@!@#@*!!!"@#*@#!!#@!... #*##@!@#@*!!!"
I have, and still ride, a Vitus 979, like Sean Kelly did in the 80s. The gearing is painful when compared with today's technology, but it's a very comfortable bike.
Crackin' vid! 10 hours! - and the pros do it six and and a half-ish! Puts us mere mortals into perspective.....or the other way around - Well done, Ollie and Alain!
Yeah this one and Paris-Roubaix have always been amazing to me, sub 6 hours for 260km? With a fair chunk of it on cobbles? Mad, in the best possible way.
Ollie, you are incredible. I may not be nearly as fast as the pros nor the GCN presenters (and in my book, you all are top notch), but rides with epic efforts are how I connect with the pros and cycling heroes.
Demare could have been left out of the video... KOM on the Cipressa with 43,6 km/h in the 4th km of the ascent and some people still don't believe that he had external help from his team car
Watching this on my turbo trainer, after kids went to bed and another storm is battering the UK. Aching to ride in the sun. Fantastic job guys, really. Lots of love!
Only 4 weeks! Can't wait. I remember the 600 km Bordeaux Paris. A big race in the 60's. In the 70's it died slowly. Jacques Anquetil once won it. The very same day he finished Dauphine Libere, he took Charles de Gaulle's own airplane to start in Bordeaux in the middle of the night. No wonder he took illegal drugs now and then.
Alan must've really been feeling bad that day, he's well known for never bonking!! GCN italia even made a video with the sole purpose of making him bonk and they couldn't do it!
Bloody brilliant 👍👍👍 Alan is a legend and Ollie, you are too. Loved that film. You were riding my dream bike, so how did it compare to your super bikes? It’s a good deal more affordable!
It's also pretty nice that there is a whole cycling path alongside the coastal road, which can be very hectic because there are a lot of cars. So you can follow the cycling path when you are on the coast and then just turn right when you want to climb the Cipressa and the Poggio.
Amazing. Thxs for the whole idea, the video, just a wonderful experience for us viewers too. Sidenote: You could issue a GCN - Milan-San Remo kit for all the layers you used during the ride. :-) Actually I would be interested anyway how you dressed for the various stages given the length of the ride and the early start.
My head turned when he said ."we could have done 28mm for more comfort but... 25mm tires were perfect as we wanted to go more aero ". When all the other 173videos of gcn we have been bombed that 28,30,32mm are better for aero ... Heheh The rest of the video was cool :)
Grande Marangaaaaaa ! ! ! ! ! Si potrebbe doppiare in italiano con alan che doppia se stesso e brambo che doppia holly ,.... sarebbe una figatissima !!!!
Great Video, truly amazing, among the best andnmobe the cross over with my beloved GCN Itali. just wondering how come Ollie listening 10 hours Alan, properly saying “San “REmo (with an hard “e” in “end” ) kept saying San Reemo? 🤣🤣🤣
Enjoyed the video, could have been longer and with more of the scenery of the route. GCN+, it's only for App store or Google Play... so no Windows version? Small screen only?
Which of cycling's five monuments would you most like to ride?
Milan - San Remo is the one for me. Unless Strada Bianchi is upgraded… as it should be!
Milano-Sanremo, cause is better than world road championship
Tour the Flanders! Milano San Remo is often too random at the end
Tour de Flanders.....epic!
Lombardy for sure. LBL next.
Can we have an “Ollie drops everyone” long distance video soon please? The man deserves sweet, sweet vengeance after all that he’s been through
He who laughs lasts last laughs the longest! OllieOllie....Ollie!!
Tbf Ollie’s in good shape!
The man rode 10 hours! Dude is in great shape.
Let's all give respect to Alain who not only has to speak a second language for an entire race but has to understand the English of a stone-cold Yorkshireman 😁
This is a fair point.
Indeed! :D

After constantly watching GCN,i've come to appreciate the production quality. It's top notch

Thanks Kimberly!
I really like the features which include presenters from other countries. I can't hardly wait for Milan San Remo 2022 now!

Ollie is a beast. He makes a classic 300 + km ride look easy. Wow!
We need more Ollie and Alan!!!!!!! What a laugh!!!!! Banging video as always!!!!!!

Thanks Vaishakh - we've got a great selection of longer films on GCN+ too!
Ollie Ollie Ollie what a great piece. Quality though out. Your enthusiasm is infectious. Please ensure Alain gets his panini. Keep these coming GCN.
Thanks Nick!
I'm loving these multi-national GCN pieces! It's great to 'meet' the wider GCN team, especially with such a stunning backdrop.
Great video Ollie, and Alain. And great to see Ollie finding his mojo on these endurance rides. Maybe time to take on some multi day rides?
Another Great Video GCN. Alan looked Absolutely Knackered on the Poggio with you (Ollie) talking the whole time 🚴🚴♂️🚴♀️
We think Alan skipped the Cipressa just to give his ears a bit of a break too!! 🙊
Ollie's best ever film. Chatting to the camera while riding up the Poggio - epic
Alain is so humble and honest.
How is Ollie able to talk in full sentences while climbing and having 200km in his legs already? Wow!

Its Good to see finally Ollie found his calling. The Ultra Endurance Rides. 👏
Gravel Worlds - Lincoln, NE or Unbound Gravel - Emporia, KS are calling Ollie out to come and ride!!!
@@chrisbaum998 GCN should relocate Ollie to the US. Be the resident US presenter.
Last year Alan rode a 600km ultra for GCN....
