Yeah, even Levy himself gets hit by the Levy Effect. He underestimates his own ability, leading to him making mistakes because he second guesses himself. I don't think he'll make GM, mostly because his focus is youtubing, but would be great to see him achieve it one day.
It's not classical, and it's against the king of chokes... that being said, I am rooting for him and definitely a great sign that the Sicillian beta test came through positive. Hope we see more beast Levy
@@getem-b this is why i believe in him. If he can pull this out of the hat, once he finds his focus and begins to truly master the game, he will be much more dangerous than people think.
@@danielj.8876 i wonder if yoo mentally thought the two queens were connected an so move the queen quickly not noticing that the queen was not protected.
@21:18 "I wonder if there wasn't the Levy Effect here..." the same thing happened to Hans Nieman in TT where he was too busy talking smack to realize he was being out played by someone that didn't even know who he was playing against. Perhaps there is power in being the biggest chess TH-camr after all, despite a giant rating disparity. Hmmm
I definitely think there is some element of them getting in their own head. Becuase obviously Hans and Nepo shouldn't be losing to Levy, and over the board, I bet neither one of them would. But when you're online and you know "Oh this guys going to make a video out of this if he even comes close to beating me" is like a little splinter in your brain. Levy has the same thing happening to him, which is why he put on that Chrome Extension to hide his opponent. It's made him unstoppable.
Speaking as a lower level player I was most impressed how Levy managed to come from behind positionally and time wise with only 3 seconds left on the clock.
Nepo has been playing fast in some recent tournaments and it has cost him victories, but it shows a commitment, maybe, to learning and trying a change to improve his odds of achieving #1. That said, kudos to Levy!
If levy controls his fear and anxiety, he can become a GM. I’ve known this for years. The fact that levy blocks the opponents name (so he doesn’t know who he’s playing against) is proof of this. If levy is able to focus on HIS game and NOT worry about who he’s playing, he can fair much better. Levy needs to challenge his fears to overcome them. He needs to go skydiving, bungee jumping, whatever he fears he needs to conquer. If he’s afraid of guns, go to a range with an expert and learn how to shoot. If he’s afraid of rollercoasters, go to a theme park and ride the scariest coasters. Skydiving would be the best probably. If you beat a possible death scenario, you tend not to fear much else.
There is no if in professional sport… that is the difference between top players and us… and dead scenarios can cause trauma and deeper the anxiety… You shouldn’t coach the internet 😂
One of the most entertaining and humbling aspects of chess is that it exposes the universal human tendency, no matter the level, to make simple errors.
I know Hikaru says that it isn't probable for Levy to make GM, but I'm happy that he's vocal about how he does want Levy to make it and often centers some content on Levy when he's learning or doing well. I really hope Levy doesn't give up on himself because I really do think there is a world where he is grandmaster.
I get panicky when there is 20 seconds on the clock. Pulling this shit off with < 5 seconds on the clock is a testament to the incredible amount of practice it take to be this good
Sicilian is a really nice addition to all players with at least 1500 rating. It gives you so many lines and opening patterns, from which everyone can choose. I like accelerated dragon or shveshnikov a lot, but you can also have as white such a fine and funny games with long castle and some random kingside attacks... of course drawback is that you need to spend like 1000 hours to learn it, but once you get it, it is really very good opening with either very sharp or very solid lines...
Pausing @15:50 why can’t black play Rxf3 taking the knight and simultaneously defending the pawn? 1. That's not ELO) 2. He/site forgot/doesn't want to change the title in profile. If I'm not mistaken, every title player should sent a form to confirm their title. He confirmed IM norm, but didn't confirmed GM my guess
The biggest reason to why these GM's are losing to Levy is underestimating how good he truly is
