Physical button to operate the lights. Physical volume knob. Physical buttons for the door windows. Physical buttons for the heated and ventilated seats. AND PHYSICAL CONTROLS FOR THE AIRCON! This car is PERFECT!
The rate and sheer pace of advancement by Hyundai / Kia / Genesis is absolutely mind-blowing. I liked the previous Kona but this new one is even better; aggressive styling without being over the top, amazing tech and LOVE THE BUTTONS! Lookin at you Tesla - never a fan of going through a menu to find a simple function when a button will suffice. Keeps you focused on the road.
@@Gazmaz I’m just trying to see if my iPad was at fault but no. Surely someone watched this before publishing it. But yes your drawn to the out of sync over listening to actual presenter. The channel is better than this come on the presenter deserves better.
Sadly it’s not our synch issue. Unfortunately that’s completely down to the TH-cam encoding. All our files and the project are in synch. Frustrating isn’t it!
The current Kona is already such a great EV, and this one looks like it is multiple steps up. I really hope they don't hike up the price much, because that was also one of its strong points.
Dirk, I don't think the price will increase much as this is a very competitive segment and they need to keep the price well below the Ioniq 5. They also need to compete with the Bolt EUV which has the US tax credit available
I have the current model Kona and love it. Range is brilliant and the drive is relaxing and very comfortable. Late last year I did a drive from Manchester to London on a cold day in heavy rain with everything switched on except cruise control and I didn’t suffer any range anxiety. This new one looks even better and I can’t wait for my local dealer to get a demonstrator so I can have a proper look. Can’t wait to see your upcoming road test.
My friend has a Kona EV, and he loves it. He downsized from a Volvo and doesn't regret it. He has twice driven from Wroughton to Birmingham and back (220 mile) journey, without range worries, especially as its nearly all motorway. I will definitely look at this new one when it arrives at the dealers.
Best looking Hyundai to date. Love how it has family resemblances with other models in the range without being a cookie-cutter shape. Hyundai Kia are doing a fantastic job with their design. For me, the perceived quality over camera seems to be better than that of the Ioniq 5. I really wasn’t impressed with the interior quality of that when I first sat in it.
Ooh, I love the new look of the Kona. Great vid Ginny 👍 The boot looks a lot more useful than the old one. That trick with the parcel shelf is good, but it’s not new, I’ve had it on various cars over the years
Another great review. I don’t like this standardisation on 10-80% charging time as it’s different based on battery size. Maybe time to add 100 miles or 200km?
I sat in the new kona at the fully charged event in Harrogate yesterday, A massive improvement over the old one in terms of quality. A car I would seriously consider for myself now where as with the old Kona, I wouldn't have.
That looks like a great car. I like all the things they've done. That said, living in Canada, I wonder when one might be able to actually get one. I waited a year for an Ioniq 5, only to be told by my dealer that the wait was actually 3 to 5 years (!). I went to the Tesla dealer, and had a new car in 3 weeks. I really hope they can supply these at scale, but a great car you can't get is just a unicorn.
I’ve had my Kona E for 4 years tomorrow and I haven’t had any problems except for the charge port door freezing up occasionally in our Canadian winters….it’s the most enjoyable car i have ever owned. I can see all the upgrades to the 2023 model making it the best small EV on the road. Behind Tesla, Hyundai come a close second in EV manufacturing.😅😊
Love it. My 4yo 90k mile Kona needs replacement soon and I'll definitely stay loyal. It's been a brilliant car so far and this one is an even better upgrade than expected. Great video presentation :)!
@@chrispnw2547 Don't worry the car won't be crushed, I'm sure it will live on for many more years, but I use it for business and I sit in it for 6-8hrs / day, so before it starts to look tatty it either becomes our spare car or gets sold on. If it was our family car doing average miles we probably would have it well over 10 years (as we did with a Prius).
Out with the audio issue…actual buttons to control things thank the lord…👏👏👏👍 While I may never buy the brand - Hyundai are just doing it right especially with the warranty side. Keep it going and let’s see what they do next.
In August 2024 I purchased a Kona Platinum Electric after owning a VW ID.3 top spec for 2.5 years. There is no comparison between these cars. The Hyundai is fantastic in every way. My ID.3 spent more times in the dealership than any car I have ever owned. Everything works the way it’s supposed to. It’s fantastic!!!
I prefer the charging port on the rear side because in my mind, many accidents do occur in the front and even a minor front accident would likely damage the port causing the repair cost to rise significantly.
Love it. If it comes to Motability then it’s certainly on my short list- my extra reasons for why it might be good for wheelchair users: charging point at the front ( so I can maximise space on driver side when parking up to let me get my chair out without then blocking a charge point on the other side of the car - which would happen with MG4); not an enormously intrusive centre console ( so I can fold my wheelchair up and get it on the passenger seat); nice boot space so when travelling with my partner she can chuck the chair in the boot. All in all looks great!
It’s a curious one. Clearly to match the Niro EV but placing it at a (probable) 38k for the long range but with “intro” level charging speeds. I love the looks and will seriously consider this from my SoulEV in 18 months time, but it’s not going to be much of an upgrade except the additional range. Still. Great looking car and clearly well designed inside and out. V2L is a winner and it’s going to do very, very well!
Looks like they have addressed a lot of the issues of the previous model which I have on lease. My only criticism is the slow charge rate. They should be able to offer at least 135kW like their competition, the MG4 and ID.3
Heated charge port is nice. Mine does have a light but any winter weather I have to either chisel the door open or scrape out the port to close to door after being out charging all night. Remember 300 EPA miles is combined range is about 10-15% less on the highway due to speed losses so that's 255 real world highway for the first leg of your trip and then you only charge from 10-80 so you lose another 30% off of the original 300, so another 90 off the top or down to 165 miles. That means on any long trip you are stopping for at least 40 minutes after just a shade over 2 hours of driving.
I looked at the old Kona before buying the ioniq 5. If the new Kona had been around, I might not now be driving an ioniq 5! But I do love my ioniq 5. Hyundai should move away from ICE cars completely and concentrate on BEV, Hyundai obviously have a flare for EV's.
How sad is it that a light in the charging port is "brilliant". These are things that should be in all cars automatically. Nothing brilliant at all. Come on manufacturers, give us this stuff immediately, it's basic. Love the channel guys.
Better looking than the IONIQ 5 IMO --- nice color too, at least in the video's flattering illumination. Great looking interior and functional. As long as there are no technical glitches and not too pricey , this EV will be a winner .
Not keen on how it looks outside, but the interior is very good. I don’t need a new car at the moment, but Depending on how it is to drive, I would seriously consider it in 2 or 3 years time.
I have an ID.4 and the window switches are brilliant imho. I never accidentally put down the rear driver window when I meant to open the driver's window. The Rear button allows me to lower all the windows at once. I love the way it works.
Those alloys remind me of the old soccer ball alloys off a Saab 99 EMS - definitely no bad thing. This is a big leap from the current model of the Kona.
First thoughts: I like the design direction they're going in. It's nice and different and the interior is premium and functional. But a couple of thoughts: Those headlights positioned low and on the corners are going to be expensive sacrificial lambs in gentle parking scrapes... The charge port in the front is always in danger of damage in a front end shunt... The rear has shades of the original Fiat Multipla crossed with a Chrysler PT Cruiser... And the daytime running light/bar: are they permanently on at the back as well as the front? I've lost count of how many cars I see bimbling along thinking their lights are on because they can see the DLRs gently illuminating the road ahead and the digital dashboard is bright, yet they're completely unlit from behind; why don't manufacturers make DLRs operate at the rear as well as the front? And why don't drivers just leave their lights in auto mode...?
Nice review. Like the focus on the practicalities rather than the quality of plastic! Design looks amazing. Those lights might get more easily damaged in a car park though? Range almost isn't even worth commenting on nowadays with these new cars but good to see full thermal management of the battery..
I love those light seats it makes the cabin feel light and airy, vw really have hot things wrong with the Id range, I’m a big golf fan had a mk5 to 300,000, and a mk 7 with 150, 000 so far both with lighter colour interior but the id range try’s to hide it from how boring it looks , Hyundai and Kia have got it bang on with there interior design, digital physical controls perfect the only thing I wished the sunroof could open , but the manual sunshade it great idea
Great review and congratulations for travelling to Germany to do it....... unlike some who have missed so many of the features that you reveal! Such an improvement on the old model. It's a pity about the price, still too high, the shorter warranty than its sister company and the charging speed, despite it's improved charging curve. But those buttons!! Well done Hyundai for such a safety improvement and well done, Ginny, for emphasising it. Now you need to work on the government and NCAP to support such an improvement.
It shows you don’t get a lot of snow in the UK. That charge port on the front is horrible. I can’t tell you how many times snow has snuck in around the gap and prevented it from being opened. Adding weather stripping has mostly fixed the issue but I still struggle at times. They need to move it to the back to protect it.

Just a quick one the old Kona 2022 has a lighted charge port with a light band around the port which is quite bright, so I don't know why you would need a phone to look for your charging port clearly you have not drove and charged the latter model, the new light looks as big as your phone LED, maybe changed due to the heating feature. Still a brilliant car.
Yes love it, have only had my new Kona Ultimate 3 mths though. Too early to change just yet. Just wondering if power increase is enough to cope with the extra weight!!!!!!
If I had a family, this would be the car. Love that it has no piano black, seemingly all physical buttons too. I predict the only flaws to be the charging speed (10-80% really should be 30min nowadays) and the price. I'm skeptical if they can price this competitively to Model Y RWD.
Just what I've waited for since buying my current Kona EV in 2019. Much improved styling, larger interior, more boot space, a frunk and not least, the V2L facility. Now for the usual Hyundai problem....communications. I know it's early days but my local dealership has not received any info about the all-new Kona EV and there seems to be some confusion about pre-ordering (whenever that happens). Hyundai UK insists that orders are to be placed through local retailers even though they haven't been told as much. This is different to the current trend (and my previous purchase experience) when orders can only be done direct with Hyundai UK.
I would be interested to hear how you think it compares with the Niro. I’ve been delighted with my Hyundai hybrid and beginning to start thinking about my next car, either stick with hybrid or go fully electric. I regularly have to make a journey of 220miles, since Covid I’ve got into the habit or driving nonstop so ideally I would like an electric car that could cope with trip.
I love it only thing that I don’t is the rear lights I think they should be higher up and under the light bar integrated with the boot it would look better
The heated charge port is not standard, it is part of the LUX pack costing either £1600 or £2100 depending on trim level as of Oct 2024. The built in dashcam never materialised but you can specify front and back dashcams to be fitted when ordering.
Looks great both outside and in, great details like full center console and physical buttons! and if it comes with a built in dash cam great, never understood why this isn't more standard in cars . I will be taking this for a test drive when it come in. Good review !
Looks like the 2023 has addressed all my criticisms of the old model. Only thing is the prices. I'll have to check if they have been announced yet. If the top spec is under the luxury car tax threshold it will definitely be on my next car short list
Physical button to operate the lights. Physical volume knob. Physical buttons for the door windows. Physical buttons for the heated and ventilated seats. AND PHYSICAL CONTROLS FOR THE AIRCON! This car is PERFECT!

Looks like the 2023 has addressed all my criticisms of the old model. Only thing is the prices. I'll have to check if they have been announced yet. If the top spec is under the luxury car tax threshold it will definitely be on my next car short list
Great stuff!
