It's wild that this video now has *1000* TIMES more views than for the 1000 subscribers this was compiled for - It's a testament to all of these artists' great work. Reclusive Lemming has made names like Blz, Beek, FearofDark, Zalza, Zabutom, K0ox, Dubmood, Jayster, Trash80, Virt, and more into household names for me, and many others. I was never someone that was 'in on the chip scene'. This was, and remains, my window into that world. I cherish all these artists work, and am thankful for this video (and parts 2 and 3!!!!) to return to and drift away into sonic bliss.
I was never in the chip scene either, which is why I'm finding this amazing video 10 years after it was made. 8( On the bright side I have an insane amount of amazing music to parse thorough now.
Ah the nostalgia... Atari, C64, NES, even Amiga 500... the good ol' days when SID chips and 8-bit ruled. There's just something so timeless and classic about these sounds and tunes that they instantly transport you to another era, when video games were the newest craze, The Goonies movie ruled, and arcades were everywhere to be found. Deep down I think every synth player is a closet 8-bit video game aficionado in some shape or form... at least, that's the way it is for me. Keep the chiptunes coming!
Chiptunes are really awesome. Especially when composers stick to authentic limitations like what they would've had if they composed for an 8bit console, they're forced to be more creative to make the most of their limited means. Plus pretty much all chiptunes evoke at least a little nostalgia, at least for people who grew up with 8bit games.
Halopedian nostalgia, dude, I was born in the 64-bit era and I agree that 8-bit is the best of all time, Megaman should have always been 8bit and if I make a fan game, I will ask to use some of this music because it sounds REALLY good for a megaman game

This is my favorite genre of electronic music. It probably stems from music in video games being my first encounter with electronic music. The range of sounds are epic and totally unique.
Used to listen to this while finishing my art in 6th grade. I was really into this kind of music back then 9years ago. I'm now 22y/o working and moved on from chiptune and barely listen to it anymore since i found a lot of different music. Atleast it is fun going back in time and experiencing it again like it was the first time. Time flies and i kinda made the best out of it and i'm really happy where i am in life. I wish everyone who has read this far the same path in life. Sure it could be better but even with all the struggle in my life i can happily say that its nice to be here and listening to this nostalgic music :)
@@sparrow_solas funky... groovy... oldschool and I still remember how I was stunned by it when I was 4 years old... :D Though I never played first jazzjack... The soundtrack from it is incredibly good too...
Beautiful compilation ReclusiveLemming. This is better than any form of medication or therapy I've ever had. It's filling the void of never having had a gf in my life. Thanks for the upload!
I would just like to thank ReclusiveLemming for reinvigorating my passion for chip tunes. I loved them back in the Amiga days, but age and commitments made it fade. Now it's back.
The analogy is to painting with a limited pallet.. which many painters do in order to enforce a particular discipline to their work. I started working with digital sound in the late 1970s on the simplest of equipment. I am glad to see that there is an appreciation of the limited sound pallet today. Back then there was almost none at all and enthusiasts were few and far between. Thanks for this upload.
Chiptune! Yes! Now I know what to call all that cool music that was in the video games I played growing up. I love the sounds, but I really love the compositions. They are really pretty incredible.
I am SO GLAD that you've included a few options to download all the songs you've put up in this playlist. Downloading the torrent right now. Thank you so much.
ReclusiveLemming, you beautiful son of a bitch...thank you for uploading this. I hope this stays forever on youtube. Future people must know about the existence of this kind of music.
@@HENRIVICTORIOUS1 Jesus why are you replying to my comment from 1 year ago Also, I changed a lot my favorite ones. Now i prefer drum n' bass and hardcore
Yeah you can expect it soon. Due to trial and error I've discovered that youtube doesn't seem to accept my video's if they are longer (and possibly equal) to 4 hours in length. As a result I might have to trim 1 song off the compilation as the parts won't be exactly 4 hours each. In addition I cannot "cut" it due to AVI keyframe issues and I will have to re-render part 2 and 3 which is taking some time.
It's been too long. This music feels so haunting now - like you're the only person in the world listening to it at a time - the only one who hasn't moved on...
Yeah, I kinda dug my own grave here in that regard. It's difficult to be original: "just another compilation" will almost certainly disappoint, yet there is little else I can do. The amount of time required makes it difficult too. When I made this I greatly underestimated it but ended up "having" to finish it, because otherwise what I already did was in vain. Glad you like it though (:
Koen Hendriks Way too long sadly. The visualizations are from XMPlay plugins, but I had to screencapture every one of them, as they react to the audio that is being played. This means the lower bound on the time spent on it is already 12 hours :(
Koen Hendriks First came the light then simple character sets, then on the second day sprites and eight bit sound and thus it came to be the virtual world was created....
I'm so glad 8bit lives on till this day. I'm a 90's kid who got the pleasure to experience the tech that this stuff epitimized, thanks to my parents and grandparents especially who got to see this stuff come out and use it in its prime. 8BIT Never Quit!!!
Hey ReclusiveLemming , first of all, this mix is epic, great job man :) Can I use your music for youtube stuff? I will put a link in the videos I used your music if it is ok for you? :D
Hey! If you want some free chiptune/EDM/rock music to use in your videos check out my channel. :) I upload 1-2 songs a week and there are already about 80 to choose from. :D
Wave - in my life,my mind @ 52:19.. that is just a sick track. I don't care what genre you like, everyone can appreciate that beautifully composed music. kudos.
I'm not quite sure. I believe it ends up quite high in search results. This part also gets significantly more views than part 2 and 3 for reasons unknown to me. Needless to say I'm really happy with the views though, this took me lots of time to make; luckily not in vain!
most definitely! again, its not a bad thing at all, its just surprising since i saw it so long ago lol. great songs either way, hopefully this will reach one million sometime soon! :D
I just received this mail from MediaFire: "The file (Chiptune_compilation_-_1000_subscribers_-_MP3.part06.rar) violates the MediaFire Terms of Service. Due to it being distributed from your account, it is no longer shareable. Also, a Strike has been placed against your account and can lead to a termination of service." Not sure what rule I violated, but please use the bittorrent link instead.
It are visualizations generated by the player I use mostly for chiptunes, XMPlay. These visualizations are plugins downloadable from the XMPlay website.
I'm so glad you made this collection. I've been listening to all 3 videos and I'm genuinely impressed by the selection. I love these. Some of my favourites made it in too.

I have listened to various electronic music genres for over 25 years... but this is my first time actually sitting down and listening to chiptune. The entire culture, the music created using discarded, abandoned technology (or emulators of such), and the overall creativity that goes into it, it has been a very long time since I have enjoyed an electronic music genre as much as I am enjoying this. Thanks for posting (and for the captivating visuals that go along with it!).
Meh, 99% of these were made on PC.
***** - Probably, but I'm alright with that. I understand that the whole culture of it revolves around using old, 8-bit modules from vintage hardware, but if the same effect can be achieved with soft-synths and samplers, more power to 'em. I have been using analog emulating soft-synths for my music (EBM meets post-Industrial rock) for years, until earlier this year, I decided to go honest with the addition of a Korg MS-20 Mini. Using PCs as a music writing tool is legit. Usually.
Fasttracker 2 for DOS ^^
It's also worth noting that some of the most well-remembered and nostalgic video game music was written in a time where a typical computer was less powerful than a graphing calculator. On the original NES, the sound chip was only capable or producing 5 voices, and each of those voices was limited to one type of wave, or a PCM. Yet this incredibly simple and limited system was used to produce one of the most iconic themes of all time: Super Mario Bros. for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1985.
Yet this chip-based music, relying on incredibly fundamental wave-forms and a few samples, lasted less than 20 years, when sampled music quickly replaced it. And once storage became cheap enough, developers simply stored prerecorded music on the game cartridge. An incredibly fascinating, yet short period of computer and gaming history.

I have been listening to this compilation on and off for over a decade. It's my favorite chiptune comp of all time!
I would just like to thank ReclusiveLemming for reinvigorating my passion for chip tunes. I loved them back in the Amiga days, but age and commitments made it fade. Now it's back.
The first song brings me away to somewhere no one is.
+Christian Kelly someone agreed that lol
+Grand Landmaster eh...
+Grand Landmaster eh...
@@grandlandmaster6143 nostalgia is teleporting us even if a few years.
It's been five years so let me check if you're going to respond to my comment
The analogy is to painting with a limited pallet.. which many painters do in order to enforce a particular discipline to their work.
I started working with digital sound in the late 1970s on the simplest of equipment. I am glad to see that there is an appreciation of the limited sound pallet today. Back then there was almost none at all and enthusiasts were few and far between. Thanks for this upload.
This is art, love and passion!
still enjoing this from time to time
This is a fantastic compilation and great choice of visualization. 1:24:50 unforgettable classic for me.
Chiptune! Yes!
Now I know what to call all that cool music that was in the video games I played growing up. I love the sounds, but I really love the compositions. They are really pretty incredible.
Wow, I've been listening for almost two hours and this compilation is pretty amazing so far! Only good stuff here.
I am SO GLAD that you've included a few options to download all the songs you've put up in this playlist. Downloading the torrent right now. Thank you so much.
Great for drawing and gaming!
also coding games
kyle Booth Some damn good programming music.
Hey that's exactly what I'm doing now! (drawing, that is!)
Also for creative writing, coding, driving, jogging... It's just great for EVERYTHING.
^^^
thanks for the download! ur kicking ass bro!
the tunnel visualisation thing is RabbitHole, first appeared in sonique music player.
Great, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Best of luck with your musical journey and thanks for the subscription!
This video is so close to 1 Million views, for the legacy of ReclusiveLemming and their work, we must get it to 1 Million!
and it has :)
what a great upload. To provide this nice MV with all the song titles in it and even download links...i'm speechless. Thank you!
ReclusiveLemming, you beautiful son of a bitch...thank you for uploading this. I hope this stays forever on youtube. Future people must know about the existence of this kind of music.
Quazar - Funky Stars is used for some crack i downloaded haha
Honestly, Chiptune and Lo-Fi are the best music genres
no its grindcore and orchestral crunkwave
@@HENRIVICTORIOUS1 Jesus why are you replying to my comment from 1 year ago
Also, I changed a lot my favorite ones. Now i prefer drum n' bass and hardcore
@@brenogtk4706and now you prefer what?
Been a while, but rediscovered this again today. Some classics in this compilation. Love it.
This chiptune mix rocks!!
Damn, I've been searching so long for Chipset sunset, now I remember this name again... Thank you.
To be honest, I haven't listened to any of your other uploads. You can listen to twelve hours for a gooood while before it gets old.
The whole 3D-ish visual thing is the coolest thing I've ever seen, and I love the music.
im listening this when im making pixelart. thanks for that beautiful video!
Listening to this while developing retro game. Motivation 1000% !
2 hours 2 more to go :) awesome collection
Yeah you can expect it soon. Due to trial and error I've discovered that youtube doesn't seem to accept my video's if they are longer (and possibly equal) to 4 hours in length. As a result I might have to trim 1 song off the compilation as the parts won't be exactly 4 hours each. In addition I cannot "cut" it due to AVI keyframe issues and I will have to re-render part 2 and 3 which is taking some time.
This is the best music I've heard in my life or in a while... Some songs even brought me to a tear because of some past experiences :/ Great music ;)
This is amazing. Never even wondered that chiptune could be this awesome. Nice compilation you got there. Thanks for the awesome music
1:44:08 Are you ready to slam jam, everybody? :D
sony vegas XD
Got to love this video, I keep coming back to it! Chiptunes rule, really brings out some serious nostalgia for me.
Nice compilation, thx you who ever you are :)
RebornGalaxy You're welcome! (:
this is perhaps 1 of the best 3+hours I have ever wasted listening to awesome music 100/1,good work
Directly from the tunnel of time. ..
I have enjoyed this for many years.
Thanks mate.
It's been too long. This music feels so haunting now - like you're the only person in the world listening to it at a time - the only one who hasn't moved on...
You and me both...
and there i thought i'm somewhat special, now there's three of us?!
We arent alone i feel like.
8-bit heaven
soon you will be making a 10,000 subscriber ccelebration!
so good luck to you!
Over 20k now T^T
Thanks for uploading this amazing Collection many years ago! Almost 2 hours in and quality is not dropping :)
so for 1000 subscribers you posted 12 hours of chiptune music... how are you planning on topping this?
Yeah, I kinda dug my own grave here in that regard. It's difficult to be original: "just another compilation" will almost certainly disappoint, yet there is little else I can do. The amount of time required makes it difficult too. When I made this I greatly underestimated it but ended up "having" to finish it, because otherwise what I already did was in vain. Glad you like it though (:
ReclusiveLemming you mean you can't make 13 hours of original music COME ON!! gawssh
souljadan I am a disgrace to the clan ;_;
do a top 10 chiptunes? or maybe some more than that cause narrowing all these down to top 10 would be impressive lol
I think that publishing new public domain audioswap that is really awesome would
I had just started making a chiptune playlist and then you do it for me.
You're a sweetheart, dude. Subscribed. :P
Great video! I loved the intro.
How long did it took to render these visualizations? If the visualizations were realtime this would be an epic Mega-Demo haha
Taive
Koen Hendriks Way too long sadly. The visualizations are from XMPlay plugins, but I had to screencapture every one of them, as they react to the audio that is being played. This means the lower bound on the time spent on it is already 12 hours :(
ReclusiveLemming Woa! You got my respect mate! Thanks for the awesome songs.
Koen Hendriks First came the light then simple character sets, then on the second day sprites and eight bit sound and thus it came to be the virtual world was created....
garyoptica amen brother, amen
That feeling when you find new MUSIC. Thank you so very much
lol this is really good music. much better than mainstream productions of nowadays
all tracks sound like a great adventure. love it

The intro is one of the most beautiful and yet sad pieces of music I have ever heard..
My favorite was the one that went "BEEP BOOP BOOP BOP, BOOP BOOP BOP"
(Spongebob Fans anyone?)
Alex Wykle you mean, "BEEP BOOP BOP BEEP BOP, BEEP BOP"
Hold on lemme call the radio station...
What did they say?
"its beep boop bop bop beep boop"

had to stay up all night setting up a website in wordpress. This amazing tracks kept me going all night long!
id leave the cdkeys on when i was young just to listen to it :P
pssh how can people argue with these SWEET BITS. THANK YOU so much for uploading these 3.
Ah, The 8 bit music makes me feel nostalgic😭 i remember played Sonic & Mario and all other games when i was a little girl
I'm so glad 8bit lives on till this day. I'm a 90's kid who got the pleasure to experience the tech that this stuff epitimized, thanks to my parents and grandparents especially who got to see this stuff come out and use it in its prime. 8BIT Never Quit!!!
Hey ReclusiveLemming ,
first of all, this mix is epic, great job man :)
Can I use your music for youtube stuff?
I will put a link in the videos I used your music if it is ok for you? :D
Hey! If you want some free chiptune/EDM/rock music to use in your videos check out my channel. :) I upload 1-2 songs a week and there are already about 80 to choose from. :D
It's not his music, you can use any of these songs as long as it's not monetized.
Wave - in my life,my mind @ 52:19.. that is just a sick track. I don't care what genre you like, everyone can appreciate that beautifully composed music. kudos.
+iGGy eo (iGniGhted) Currently listening to it, it's gotta be the best song composed by Wave
I've been listening to this for three hours and now all I can hear is bleeps and bloops. HALP
Bleep blip bloop bloop
Blip bloop bleep bleep bloop
Bloop

You can probably do Morse Code in expert mode then :-p
Just had a flashback to the movie SPACEBALLS lol...
You subscribed some nice channels
One of the best compilations on the whole TH-cam
how did this get so many views? its awesome and deserves it, but i saw this when it had 2,000 ._.
ReclusiveLemming Could be because people watch the first part and then just download the whole thing :p and thanks for this compilation!
You sir are a genius. I wish all of your stuff was on spotify XD Fantastic work
listened to this while playing sc2 and dota :D
Came here for infinitode, stayed because its so damn good
Actually 12 hours, there's 2 more parts!
This may be the best chiptune compilation...ever.
This reminded me of Undertale for some reason
I'm so glad you made this collection. I've been listening to all 3 videos and I'm genuinely impressed by the selection. I love these. Some of my favourites made it in too.
4 hours yet only the first of a 3 part 12 hour total chiptune behemoth. I wonder if anyone has actually listened to the whole thing.
*raises hand, multiple times* :3
ReclusiveLemming Me one time xD
Listened x)
I've heard part one and two at least 20 times already, and part 3 maybe 5 times
I have, and I am very happy about it
Still listening! Found the folder from your 1000 special and decided to look this channel up again
48 people have bacon in their ears :D
Or dicks
Pascal de Aguiar Better bacon in their ears than ears in their bacon I suppose =)
ahaha yes very true :)
***** Yes it's good but not in the ears or anywhere else but the mouth :D
Pascal de Aguiar *NONSENSE!* Bacon is good anywhere, I say!
A genre that works perfectly whether you're listening in high or low quality. Bliss.
Please fix DropBox link. I want them MP3!! :D
Thank you for this compilation and the three videos
If you're here from MKHD welcome 😄
A download link is present in the description as well. Check the pastebin links, they should contain everything you might be looking for.

Seen this compilation years ago, didn't spot it in my favorites, so I thought it got taken down. I'm so glad it didn't!
Probably the best mix of chiptune out there
Got a final project to do, and these compilations are helping me through every part of it! You saved my grades!
