That’s how these older dryers were. This design dates back to at least 1957/1958, Maytag kept this design up until 1975 since they went to the later Stream-Of-Heat design which had a much larger capacity. The only reason I can think of why these older dryers have v-belts and pulleys for the drum drive and tensioner is belt technology and manufacturing techniques in the 1950’s probably didn’t support thin serpentine belts around the drum, by the 1960’s they basically had it figured out and went to that setup since it was cheaper to produce along with reducing mechanical complexity.
How well does your Maytag DE806 work on 120 volts? Considering on doing something similar to the customized Maytag dryer I am putting together but will have to see.

That’s pretty neat. Never seen a dryer that has two belts and four pulleys!
