In 1974 when that Maytag washer was manufactured.... there was no need for (load-sensor) agitators since the transmission agitation-stroke was 190 degrees. The (load-sensor) agitator was needed when the "orbital" transmission was introduced on Maytag washers back in 1989. The "orbital" transmission had a 90-degree agitation-stroke. Both transmissions are very durable & do a good job washing laundry if.... the washer in not over-loaded.

I've got one like this in my kitchen. Ventless style. The long fluorescent bulb burned out and even though I can turn it about 1/8 turn, I can't get it to pop out of the end holders.

These plastic tub Frigidaires were not good machines. If this dies, get a direct drive and that will last over 15 years. For brand new, get a Speed Queen. These also lacked tub breaks. Older doesn’t always mean good. You can also buy a really old Frigidaire. 2000s Frigidaires we’re not good machines. No modern Frigidaire washer is good. Frigidaire is only good at making kitchen appliances, not laundry.

This washer is definitely not the best thing ever but is certainly better than what is made today. The old GEs and the Whirlpool Direct Drives were better. But this washer does not go chug chug like the old GEs and the Whirlpool Direct Drives.

I'd like to see the heavy duty cycle with a full load.

I bought one with the straight vane agitator in 2003. Great machine, wish I still had it.

I have this washer, but different agitator. Plastic tub. Works better than the non agitator tubs that barely move the clothes. I have the paddle type agitator. This model is gentle on the clothes compared to my Whirlpool which has lots of rollover and works faster, but cleans better. This one is perfect for delicates.

Do you still have this washer today?

How well does your Maytag DE806 work on 120 volts? Considering on doing something similar to the customized Maytag dryer I am putting together but will have to see.

You have underloaded it. Use less water for a load that size.

This Maytag washer is beautiful to see and listen to.

Because these washers have indexing tubs. They do better with straight vain/ single action agitator

Water pressure is low in my neighborhood too. Most likely because everyone is working from home remotely, zooming ,and streaming 24-7 due to a much worsening PANDEMIC!

does anyone know how many Cubic Feet this machine is?? sadly my 2008 ''Whirlpool World'' washer is dying, , but it had a good 14 year life of no issues, and constant use, trying to compare capacity so I can replace it with a similar sized machine..

I have never seen a Top Load Washer spinning counter-clockwise on the spin cycle. Usually I always see them spin clockwise.

The final spin is interestingly very long! I've never seen a final spin last 12 minutes!

@Tonka Was this machine meant to spin drain? I noticed you had to pause it in order to make it spin.

Hmmmmmm??? My mother had a 1974 Maytag Washer.. They didn't have those type of agitators then.. You put a newer agitator in an older model.. Right??!!!
