I'm Class of 76. Grew up in Memphis. I had an 8 Trac in my Chevy Malibu. I was on the baseball team. I partied with stoners. This movie looks and feels and sounds like my life. It captures it perfectly.
I think this is a classic, even tho it’s unapologetically 70’s. Like they said at times, highschool wasn’t the jocks vs nerds. Everybody just kinda knew each other and hungout. And in the same way a lot of these kids did in the movie. Driving around looking for something to do, going to get food, trying to make parties happen. And then once you get to a party all you do is drink/smoke and fuck around 😂. Even though school will evolve with the times, i think this movie has a heart that is timeless.
The opening at the high school is important to introduce the characters.
Nicky Katt is in a TON of movies. In fact, he is the link between the '90s Batman movies and the Nolan Batman movies. He's in Batman & Robin, too.
Simmons brings his prep school sensibilities to everything

“Everybody Wants Some” is such an amazing movie. I remember seeing the trailer for it and getting beyond excited, but they weren’t showing it anywhere close to me. The second it was released on DVD, I bought it. One of my favorite movies of the last 20 years.
When I walk in slow motion into the party, it has to be "High Plains Drifter." The walkout to the ring for a fight is the Prodigy remix of "Release Yo' Delf."
Ha I spent the summer of 94 in a very Dazed And Confused-esque scenario in Dallas because my best friend lived in a crappy, rundown duplex with Melvin O Smith, fresh off his role in Dazed And Confused. He told us all the stories from the set long before the internet existed, and we basically all just sat around listening to music getting high all summer. I remember hanging out watching the OJ chase with Melvin. Good times good times. The "party at the moontower" was actually just a party they had in the woods and the cast was just hanging around drinking as their respective characters, and Linklater's crew was capturing random little vignettes on handheld cameras. He no longer had the Soul Pole, it got broken during the filming.
Simmons was a Prep school Brat it explains a lot.

Picking Nits: you commented that Steve Miller came out too late for this movie...he released his first album in 1968, and The Joker was released in 1973 (went platinum)., and Fly Like an Eagle was released in.....1976. Also went platinum
You also say Rory Cochran never made it...he's been in 30 movies since 1993, plus several TV shows, including CSI Miami for 6 years...I'd say he "made it"

The Jr. High kids should have had more of a mention.
There's nothing wrong with Wiley Wiggin's performance. In fact I think it is a spot on performance. I don't think "Dazed and Confused" is anything like 80's teen movies. It has distinct parallels to George Lucas' "American Graffiti", in both characters, scenes and plot points. Given that Linklater is a very smart guy I think the similarities are on purpose.
Sean did a great job with mentioning american graffiti bc even tho im 23 im more of a 50s and 60s guy. Dazed and confused is a great coming of age movie me and my buddies and I used to watch and talk about it, and Bill is right even tho we all do different stuff in a way movies like stand by me sandlot and this do a great job of showing what growing up is like and the funny shit that can happen and random things that you remember. i always enjoy movies like this because there so relatable and i graduated 4 years ago and my experience the whole middle school to high school thing a lot of it was pretty similar still of anyone was wondering.. 😂

She was in 2 scenes. She was the chick that walked by Wooderson when they hanging outside the pool hall and she was 1 of the chicks in the back of the truck at the keg party in the woods...
I would put Half Baked and Harold And Kumar go to white castle above Dazed and Confused.
