    The best Silat demonstration I've seen so far. No showing off, no useless style additions, just plain, simple, effective fighting techniques. Silat brought down to its core, just the way I like it. :-)

      Excellent video content! Excuse me for the intrusion, I would appreciate your initial thoughts. Have you thought about - Chireetler Dread Free Rule (should be on google have a look)? It is a great one off guide for learning effective self defence moves without the hard work. Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my friend got cool success with it.

    • @silatguy
      @silatguy 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Morgan Garrett Maul is really good, very technical and trains a lot, the reason you don't see more people like Maul is because most authentic Silat has died out or faded into cultural obscurity in indonesia and surrounding areas, if you like SBBD though you might check out his friend Alvin on youtube by typing Silat Open Circle

    • @tlapower
      @tlapower 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Morgan Garrett What you said is what I have heard said by smart martial arts teachers and high IQ martial arts aficionados. Maul is rare amongst all martial artists not just silat. This stuff is original and rare and relevant today's situations.

      this man is a cultural and should be a national treasure. oh how i long for him to come to the USA, the west coast. how i would love to go to a seminar with such a individual. there are people and teachers that people will gravitate to based on their teaching style, how they care for the continuity and authenticity of their art and form. then there is the level of respect that is within the student teacher circle that this man not only respects but fosters as a must in order to fully gain that which he is trying to impart. very few people in this world are gifted with what he has been. i gravitate towards excellence, and i am like a moth and he is a flame...
      his flow is like a dancer, his ability to position you exactly where he wants to and his ablity to manipulate you, the environment and himself in such a way that the power and tools you bear upon him are used against you with equal fury in defense as in a brutal and devastating offense should that be your defense...

    Love this I see the same moves I've been taught in kali. But I must add Maul is incredibly smooth. When someone takes a complex movement and makes it appear so easy that is amazing. When they can teach you to do it they are a master. Maul is truly a master.

    I actually see a lot of moves from other martial art systems like the trapping and Qi Na from Chinese martial arts, some of the throws from Judo, some Catch Wrestling and all that combined with Filipino knife work but there done in such a I don't know how to put it in a flowing way that interconnects them so beautifully and effortless.

    • @persada5913

      Well, Silat is over a thousand years old. A Malaccan (a Malay) warlord who was also master of Silat landed in the isle of okinawa hundreds of years ago in the late 14th century; there's archeological evidence of government to government mou and artifacts. Since Silat is the most wholesome art style, I have no doubt the Malaccan warlord had imparted his SIlat to the okinawan natives and thus karate and judo were spawned even the art of samurai which gives birth to aikido! No wonder you see most of the traditional weapons of karate looks similar to some of Malay traditional weapons like kubotan (kayu sejengkal in Malay), bo (kayu panjang in Malay) and sai (tekpi in Malay). But you'll see that a Silat practitioner is more adept and dexterous with these weapons because these weapons are originally Malay weapons.😁Please do allow me to indulge in my fantasy! 😄🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

    Just for your information guys...pencak silat means style of silat or disciplinary of silat(indonesian language) pencak silat is more focusing on the style from western indonesia(example of silat:Pencak Silat Cimande,Silek Tuo Minang..etc).If in bahasa malaysia we call it seni silat(which have the same meaning:Style of silat) (example of silat:Seni Silat Gayong,Seni Silat Cekak,Silat Pulut,Seni Silat Sendeng,Seni Silat Lincah......etc
    (Footnote:Seni Silat Cekak and seni silat gayong are one of the major style practiced in Malaysia/Silek Tuo Minang is one of the most lethal and old pencak silat practiced in indonesia)...sry for the lack of info about pencak silat..😇

    Although some of the knife disarms look a little iffy to me, and with a couple of exceptions in execution, this system looks very effective. A lot of economical movement, which to me is very(Parker System) American Kenpo like. No stiffness in execution, very fluid, very to the point. The gent demonstrating is obviously very well versed in the system.

      @muhammadfairuzsamsi7209 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Everyone can. Form, technique and muscle memory is what's important. Remember, people will grow old and frail, but they can still defend themselves. You can be slow and weak but if you know how to follow up after responding to the first hit, you basically control the fight and you can choose depending on the situation how you want to end it. Because it is self defence after all, objective is to end the fight.
