as a kid, I'd always imagine that Sub-Zero and Scorpion are brothers because they looked the same, but in different colors. They could make it that way, come up with some personal conflict between two of them and make it heart of the movie
They should just do: - Raiden and Liu Kang are the lead - Johnny Cage just stumble into this tournament thinking it was his new job offer - Sonya and Jax hunting Kano and end up in this tournament - Kung Lao disguised as the masked guard in order to participate - Scorpion hunting down Sub-Zero and end up in this tournament This are the main character. For villains - Shang Tsung, Sub-Zero, Kano and Goro - Liu Kang vs Shang Tsung - Kung Lao vs Goro (make him want to avenge his ancestor) - Johnny and Sonya vs Kano (make Jax lose his arms by Kano just like in Legacy) - Scorpion vs Sub-Zero Problem solved if they do this

Liu Kang and Kung Lao are like Ken and Ryu in the Van Damme Street Fighter movie. They are just there to bait people, because they are popular in the game.
KANO - best part in the movie and he stole just about every scene he was in. EVERY person that has ever played MK must have been crying when Liu Kang kept spamming the leg sweep and he finally learns but times his jump wrong and gets swept anyway. Been there done that LOL.
The studio inserted him in the director had no say . That’s why studio executives shouldn’t be involved in decisions with a movie. Cole Young Is corny generic character
Bi-han was a protector of earthrealm, so I don't understand how he became outworld when scorpion was outworld due to a deal he made with Quan Chi to be resurrected to kill sub zero
Well, he's Noob Saibot, what can I say? I mean, I kinda forgot about that two brothers part, but I did notice a distinct lack of color BLUE in the modern times on a so called "Sub-Zero". I immediately linked him to Noob. Plus, he don't do power slides and the like, he's not Kuai-Liang, no way.
The lack of the tournament really hurt this movie. The opening 10 minutes, the final fight, the fatalities and Kano are worth the time. Everything else is mostly shit.
@@ErikPT yea I agree. Cole holds no purpose and was boring as the main character. I figured Mileena would be more vicious and I’m surprised she was killed off considering she’s Shao Khan’s heir. Joe Taslim's "eye acting" is on point, that's for damn certain. There's a lot of room of improvment, but this is pretty much good start for an MK movie franchise...considering Annihilation.
They did Joe taslim dirty by having him wear a heavy ass costume so he couldn't do the normal crazy the raid or the night comes for us level stuff. Looked cool but I wouldn't pick better fights than better costumes
@@bobsandwich3431 , yeah, that's quite unfortunate. His Bi-Han costume would've been great for a much wider range of movements. Didn't he say the contract was for multiple movies though? Maybe someday as Noob.
The fact that the entire plot was to avoid a tournament in a Mortal Kombat movie is like the Power Rangers avoiding morphing in a Power Rangers movie. Wtf?
That plot was actually incredible, the execution of the script is what left a lot to be desired. Think about it, this is totally within the realm of what Shang and Kahn would do. They have no issues cheating to win the tournaments, they'll do anything it takes to conquer earthrealm. Annihilation while trash was about Kahn cheating the rules to take over earth, in the MK games and comics there's a lot of rule breaking in order to conquer earth. So in this film they needed to do something different, something that hasn't been done. How about we instead kill all the champions so no tournament can even take place and we win by default? That's actually genius and totally makes sense for outworld to do. This is supposed to become a franchise, you want every movie to be about a tournament? That'll be boring and will quickly become unoriginal, heck the games and comics don't even do the tournament storylines anymore. They've done time travel stories twice now instead. The next film will be about the tournament, so this was nice to see something fresh. So this analogy of power rangers avoiding morphing doesn't work given the context of MK lore. The real issue with the film,is no character development and the execution of the rest of script.
@@Hollowdarling true you’re right, they should have made it a tv series in my opinion, there could have been more character development on each episode and season 2 could have been about the tournament also done with more detail that way you build a bigger connection towards the hero’s and villains but you see why they both do what they do

I have a feeling I know how its going to end, it came to me in a dream. MK1 - The start of Cole's journey. he gets knocked around and survives the preemptive assault by Shang Tsung, he unlocks part of his powers, gets the chest and arms of his armor. MK2 - The tournament, he still gets knocked around but he does a better job. The final battle is Shang v. Cole, he unlocks the second part of his powers including the hands, legs and boots, with a Shirai Ryu crest where the dragon tattoo is located. MK3 - Shao Khan is not pleased to lose to the tournament, invades earth realm anyways. The team battles the armies of Shao Khan with the final battle being Shao Khan vs Cole, with Cole looking down and out beaten bloody on one knee in front of Shao Khan. Suddenly we are in a mental realm inside Coles head. We see Hanzo Hasashi standing next to him. He speaks "If you could take another step, could you? Could you save our realm?" Cole "You are damn right I could." Hanzo "Heh" he drops the head of his spear to the ground while holding the rope. "Take it, we fight as one." Cole grabs hold of the spear and we snap back to the reality as yellow energy shoots forth from Cole. He stands rejuvenated. Cole "This is our realm, our story. Now..." The powers and his ascension into S-Cole-pion are complete, as a hood and face mask form over his head, and a stylized spear forms next to his right glove. The with a swift punching motion, he launches the spear into Shao Khans shoulder where it lodges in... "Get Over Here~!" in the classic Scorpion voice as he pulls Shao Khan to him punching Shao so hard with his fist, he shatters his skull helmet into pieces as the Mortal Kombat movie theme starts playing and proceeds to do a 99-hit ultra combo into the body of Shao Khan, punching, kicking, sweeping, teleporting from side to side. Finally with one last hit, he knocks Shao Khan to the ground as he does a scorpion battle stance and Shao slow mo falls to the ground beaten, bloody and defeated.
I would love it if they some crazy 99hit combo for a finisher in one of the movies, I totally thought Cole was gonna end up being Johnny Cage in this movie but I'm really looking forward to the second one after this. Cut out Cole. Completely.
They should just do:
- Raiden and Liu Kang are the lead
- Johnny Cage just stumble into this tournament thinking it was his new job offer
- Sonya and Jax hunting Kano and end up in this tournament
- Kung Lao disguised as the masked guard in order to participate
- Scorpion hunting down Sub-Zero and end up in this tournament
This are the main character. For villains - Shang Tsung, Sub-Zero, Kano and Goro
- Liu Kang vs Shang Tsung
- Kung Lao vs Goro (make him want to avenge his ancestor)
- Johnny and Sonya vs Kano (make Jax lose his arms by Kano just like in Legacy)

Scorpian at the end is Reptile. Subzeroes eyes are blue, Scorpians should be yellow, yet they are green for Reptile, also he died, so who else could take his place?
Didn’t even finish the video and already put up a thumbs up for the Raiden impersonation

To be fair, “fun if you’re drunk” and “has the potential for an amazing sequel” is a rating that video game movies rarely hit for me. So this one sounds like a pretty good time
It's a cringe fest and it's really badly acted sorry
Sonic!
I spent most of the movie thinking "oh they better not have Cole turn into scorpion or some other BS like that"
And I was almost certain it was going to happen after all the visions and then boom!
Didn't happen, scorpion shows up himself.
I Sighed with relief.
I pretty much agree with all of this this, although I think Sonya was a pretty near perfect portrayal of the character as well. I really liked how instead of having a pre-established rivalry with Kano, it slowly built up as the film progressed towards their showdown at the end.
You can't just scalpel my boy Johnny Cage out of the main story like that though.
He was a douchbag way before being a douchbag was even a saying. Hahahahah
But Johnny cage sucks he is annoying and just like the 95 movie annoying...
@@wendellswendell2001 sure, but isnt that the point? he starts an asshole, but grow as the series goes on, if anything, he is the guy with the biggest character development, which is far superior to liu kang, who goes from, good guy, to the exact same guy, to dead guy, to zombie guy... time travel happens then, good guy, to confused guy, to undead guy(not to be confused with zombie guy), then time travel happens again and he becomes a good guy who becomes god guy...
@@Barry80Elms that’s the point of Johnny Cage. That’s how Johnny C do
Is Cage even in it?
The Sub-Zero fights was my favorite parts
Whenever Bi-han was onscreen it felt like slasher flick.
I thought all the characters did a great job portraying their characters. just needed the dang tournament.
they did set up the tournament, and there are plans of future movies so i think the trilogy will end with a tournament...
@@yousufrazwan9583 raiden and Liu kang were my only issues and I really didn’t like em
@@youngbane6799 i understand why you wouldnt like them... tbh every character in this film didn't have good development, except for kano of course, lol
just look at the protagonist, he isnt that interesting, nor is blade, nor is raiden, etc
@@yousufrazwan9583 kung Lao was cool Jax was a nice character maybe not handled the best tho Kano obviously was very cool and blade eh lol I liked kabals introduction and role and melina lmao was cool I guess sub and scorp were obviously the best ider the main guys name
Young’s arcana suit looked like an old power rangers villain’s costume.
And it seemed like the writers wanted to give him Black Panther powers for his first fight and then went “Nah that was shit scratch that,” for the rest of the movie.
True.
It felt too much like the newer movies, with orchestra epic journey score.
Thought it be much darker film.
Felt more cute than dark.
I think it's more relaxing for everyone and cooler. More subtle approach.
Limited set pieces,"Arcana" and characters being thrown in just cause should sit pretty bad for anyone interested in lore.
Budget constraints,I understand, but it will never be "Not weird" for me to see:
1.Raiden's *Sky* Temple be a burrow in some sand dune.
2.Shang Tsung being on a floating cliff in Outworld instead of you know.....Shang Tsung's Island.
"Arcana" neutered the vast world and different powers characters have.
Everyone has different powers, but they come from the same place.
Kano is great in the movie, but *THE* thing bout his look is his Terminator like Cyber Eye piece.
Here he gets a damn superpower.Liu can shoot fire from both hands. Why can't Kano shoot from both eyes?Too much like Superman?
Well if only you stuck with the OG,maybe it wouldn't be such a problem.
Reiko is a grunting baboon and nothing like the OG or the much better MKX comic variant, literally could be any big dude from MK.
And of course the big champion for 500 years Goro is just an assassin, instead of being put there to make sure Shang doesn't fuck up another Tournament.
@@altxogershavelayers5166 Kano was definitely the most fun to watch.
@@altxogershavelayers5166 everything you said was spot on. Seeing outworld as a bunch of mountains instead of a society pissed me off. Cole is lame tbh. He could have easily been replaced with johnny cage and it would have the same effect except johnny is an established and appreciated character. The only new addition to the lore I liked was the arcanas. Some of them were stupid like jax growing magic arms but i think they are a good way to explain the powers of the characters in a movie. Its not something i would like added to the main video game lore but the abilities are something you kinda have to explain in a movie, and they did a good job. I dont think this is a horrible movie at all, its decent but as a mortal kombat veteran, i cant stomach what they did to the lore. Honestly this really wasnt mortal kombat. This just felt like one of those attempts to cash in on a popular title while wanting to make a completely different movie. Kinda just felt like the studio forced them to shoehorn mortal kombat characters and loose plot details into a okay fighting movie
@@jaelonwillis2336 Arcanas aren't super bad,for an adaptation like this, definitely not something for the games.
The Sub Zero/Scorpion are built up only because they are important to us.The Animated Scorpion's Revenge had them built as the main thing because that was from Scorpion's perspective.
Here it is so because they are the most popular, definitely better than being Shang's goons like in 95 one,but still.
