Ex VFX/post dude here who left big studios and is doing his own thing now. I just got 2 c-stands and thought I knew what I was doing, but I was just schooled. Thanks!
We are ALL always learning
Thanks for having me in your channel. Been using your grip probably my whole career
Thanks for a super helpful video. I set up my C-stand along with you and appreciate the attention to detail.
The BEST C stand video out there !!
🙏 thank you!
Excellent post! Had I know the versatility of C Stands, I'd have bought them a long time ago.
They are an industry standard for a reason they just might not be a piece of gear most people are aware of if they don’t end up on a working set out there Just keep it safe !
Great video Seth, thank you. Learned a few things and have just ordered the exact same stand, no point 'saving' a few quid on something so important.
Best demonstration of C stands. Thank you! I appreciate the repetition on why little knobs on left, big knobs on right. I finally understand why this is imperative to make sure the big knobs are on the right when you have the light at the end. No one has made it this clear. Excellent instruction. Thank you!
Best C Stand Video…. ❤
Appreciate that thank you
Love seeing the depth Seth goes into when creative videos. I love he pulls the pin from his back pocket. Gangsta.
😜🫀
Duuuuuddee!!! I have owned and used C-stands for years…but I didn’t know some of these things. This is huge! The part about the little knobs on the left and the big knobs on the right, makes total sense. Also I’ve been using the wrong end to mount my lights (smooth end and not the knuckle with a baby pin) there’s always something new to learn in photography even for veterans. Thanks so much for the great info! (Oh and I’m buying some of those junior to baby pins to make low floor stands)
Awesome glad it filled in some gaps for you
thank you Seth for doing this tutorial, its worth watching several times!
One of the things I really appreciate about Seth is, he talks fast-but that means he can tell you something important five times in a row and drill it into your consciousness, stays with you longer and makes it harder to forget, then on to something else important that you need to know.
Coming from a real estate/architecture background, I never had the need for sturdy stands. However, having transitioned into headshots and portraits, sturdy and versatile stands are a must. I can’t tell you how valuable the information you’ve provided in this video is to me; I truly appreciate you having taken the time to make and post this video. Many thanks.
youre so welcome appreciate you taking the time to watch glad it was worthwhile
I've been a hobbyist photographer for 11 years now and I'm always scouring YT for useful informational vids to better learn the craft. It's rare when I stumble upon something useful and I found this to be immensely informative. Seth is my new favorite person on YT! I remember years ago learning about the weight on the correct side so that it tightens the grip arm over the center column if too heavy, but I've since forgotten and it makes perfect sense now that I'm using C-stands more often. LOVE the techniques for holding reflectors/foam core boards!! Even though everyone else does it, do not...repeat: DO NOT attach monolight to the rod portion of the grip arm. Always use the knuckle with a 5/8" baby pin. Intuitively it just made sense, but now you've given me solid validation. Do you have a similar vid for using super boom arms safely?
thanks so much appreciate all the kind words! i have an articulating arms video on my channel but not a dedicated boom or grip arm video yet no sorry
Even better, imho consider using light stands when you want to mount a light, as they are more stable overall. A C-stand is the second-best option if you can't use a light stand. C-stands are better suited for supporting cutters, flags, boards, etc.
Thank-you for telling people that the end of the grip arm is not for mounting lights :)
We’ve all done it in a pinch but there’s a better safer way
Finally, someone who isn't guessing how to use a stand in a review. Thank you for sharing, vocab, options, variations, etc. 👍
Thanks for checking it out glad it was worthwhile 🙏
Just bought a c stand, and waiting for it to arrive. Thanks so much for the video, really well explained especially considering safety aspects,. Nice little touch re reflector etc :) Thanks again.
For sure. Have fun with it keep it safe !
Great video, i will never look at a C-stand the same way again. Learned a lot. Thanks
That’s the goal! You should see proper set up everytime
Seriously best c stand video ever.
Wow that’s a high mark thank you
This one video explains every reason why I should have C stands and how to properly use them. Wicked!
Tried! Glad you liked it thanks for checking it out
Thanks Seth! Best explanation I have seen to help me get started with my new C-stand.
Awesome. Glad it was helpful
This was so useful Thank you from someone that has bought my first C stand
Awesome this was just the surface have fun on that journey c stands are crazy versatile
At last, a c stand video that actually shows you how to attach things! Brilliant video, thanks.
glad it was helpful!
Thanks for really breaking it down and not assuming we know the parts or terminology. Made it easy to understand. Efficient and clear
Glad it was helpful thanks for watching
💙
This is fabulous. I've just recently started moving toward off-camera flash and trying to educate myself about studio lighting. So of course that takes you to light stands which takes you to C-stands. Looking at a picture of a grip head is like trying to read ancient Egyptian. This is the first comprehensive lesson I've seen going from base to riser to grip head to boom arm. Thank you!
very welcome thanks for watching glad it was helpful
Very well explained I've seen a lot of videos but this one is the best.
Wow thank you so much that’s a high bar 🙏
Great video
Two of my favorite things Seth Miranda and Avenger gear. One thing I've learned is don't skimp on grip and make sure you know how to use it. A fellow photographer recently used my Baby Boom arm and almost immediately bought one for himself because of how much better he felt about using that vs his cheaper gear. I also sent him this video, great reference for those new to using C-Stands.
Wowww....
Hope that’s a good wow lol
your way of explaining things are a blessing for the artistic mind. thank you so much for explaining things in detail and getting always straight to the point. this is how youtube used to be. maybe it's the future. all the best for your channel. subbed and am happy the algor did something good this time presenting your video which was worth spending lifetime.
I’d like to think I keep things straight forward appreciate you checking it out glad it connected for you
Your a Great Teacher Seth. Thankyou!
Thanks for all the added instruction on how to correctly use this resource!
Glad its useful thanks for watching
wow, thanks for a super thorough, interesting and helpful vid
This was only the surface ! Thanks for watching
Along with a sand bag on the long leg, i use a counterweight on the grip arm when i have a light and modifier on it. It helps when making adjustments to the position of the lights/modifier.
Yea counter weights are awesome most people don’t have access to them unfortunately but clamping down a weight is super convenient and adds stability up top as well for sure
Thankyou for saying the actual part numbers of the pins etc, that helped me quite alot
Yea everything’s always a part number makes things a lot faster when you gotta ask for when when buying renting or borrowing lol
@@LastXwitness yes, at our work we recently started selling these units and we know the part numbers well.....but the gaffers use all slang names for them so it's alot of learning
Very informative video. Appreciate that.
So helpful. Thanks Seth and Avenger!
Thanks for watching
Great video! Thanks for the tips.

Seth,
You are an amazing showman. Your enthusiasm and energy is inspiring. I've learned so much in a short period of time watching your presentations. I always look forward to seeing your TH-cams! The only downside to watching you is you make me wanting and buying more studio gear!
I really appreciate that. Thanks so much. Glad any of this is helping out there. You’re welcome to add views to my stuff 😂 if anything it might save you $ by making better choices in the long run 🤷♂️

🔥🔥🔥🔥
You might consider it to be basic info but everyone needs to be taught their first time. Studio grip gear techniques aren't always intuitive and doing it right not only means efficiency but safety.
No ones calling any of this stupid. I did this video for first timers and to help keep sets safe out there
Thank you so much Seth.... great video 👍
