Congrats on the shout-out in Jrose's Venomoth run! Was pretty nice to see that. Also didn't expect to deal with TWO videos involving Mr. Mime today, MDB's and yours, yet here we are. Also DROOOOPPED MY BALLLSSS
This really makes you wonder what Mr. Mime is capable of in gen. 4, where it gets access to Focus Blast in the Veilstone Department Store This could help against steel and dark types it otherwise struggles against Guess we'll have to wait for that video to come out
I like this video. Subvert expectations, relax a bit more, doing it the way you want instead of always bowing to rigidity. Thanks for the content, Scott.
This is a wonderful video. My slightest suggestion is a personal opinion, but I really liked that you were doing evolutionary lines instead of all individual Pokémon with this game. So, I was a bit sad to see the final run here. But, overall it was a great video.
Hey Scott speaking of versus videos I had an idea. I was watching poliwag and bellsprout/victoreebel again and in those videos you said their middle evolutions may be faster than their final evolution. Maybe a good versus video would be weepingbel and poliwhirl. Just an idea. Keep up the amazing work
Great video. Really love seeing you push the pokemon as far as you can! Can't wait for this and Gen 1 to both be done to see a full comparison in 2027.
Oh no, I guess I just HAVE to do a vs video with mewtwo now. Oh no, now I have to do hypno! Rhydon all over again lol This is the most Scott thing ever.
Maybe? Typically in gen3 the enemy has no idea what your ability is until they trigger it. Pokémon that only get Levitate as an ability will still get the AI to use Earthquake, but once they see the immunity then they try other things.
You mention that you need to be faster than the Pidgeot to be able to get to +3 without being Whirlwinded out... but doesn't the fact that Whirlwind and Roar are negative priority from Generation 2 onward mean that your Speed doesn't matter for that AI interaction? What would matter is knowing for sure that you will KO the Pidgeot on the turn it would choose Whirlwind.
You mentioned how good Fighting types are in Gen 3 and with the strong showings of these Psychic types in this video there are some interesting differences to consider between Emerald and FRLG. Due to the remakes using teams from a time when Psychic was dominant it helps the type and both Bulk Up and Calm Mind are available close to each other. In Emerald Dark type opponents are more plentiful (with multiple mandatory Poochyena before the first badge) and Bulk Up is much earlier than Calm Mind so Fighting types have great advantages while the abundance of Poison and Flying types should slow them down in Kanto. P.S. In FRLG it feels like an easier choice than in Emerald for a Pokémon with access to Calm Mind that does use its Attack in some cases to have a Special Defense lowering Nature. It could have mattered with Mewtwo because Rash instead of Quiet would have allowed it to outspeed Lance's Aerodactyl which would have prevented its only reset.
These were great runs. I love the inclusion of Hypno. You go into it with Mr. Mime and Mewtwo and you said you didn't even expect to do this and now Hypno is like "UH WHAT ABOUT ME?" lmao.
I wonder how a meditate, shadow ball, and brick break moveset would be for Hypno, seeing as its physical attack stat was higher than its special attack stat.
Why didn't you shock wave when muk used minimize? Isn't always more optimal to use a guranteed hit move over missing a lot then resetting even if you can high roll a one turn knockout by hitting a psychic?
I could tell looking over Mewtwo's shoulder at the beginning of the video we had an incoming surprise. Thus your most "Unfocused piece of content" became even more chaotic that's why I became a channel member, I love it. Anyways Mewtwo winning was no surprise really its stats and move pool are disgusting (in a good way). Ms. Mime did pretty well, although calm mind definitely helped. Hypno surprised me I wasn't aware it was supposed to be a mixed attacker, it makes sense I just over looked it so that doesn't help it much, it still had a good time though.
Heracross's Special Defense is surprisingly high, it's caught me off guard more than a few times. I've heard of people running sets in competitive Ubers tiers designed specifically to survive Mewtwo's Psychic and OHKO back with Megahorn. Pretty impressive.
I think the reason why Heracross used counter was because you had 1 physical move in your move set. Knowing it can survive a Brick Break it selected Counter as a possible move. Other than that... I feel bad that Hypno's special stat got nerfed so hard in Gen 2 it is unreal.
I had very low expectations as I never liked the design, but Mr. Mime was one of my favourites to solo FR with. The type coverage makes the mid-game very smooth indeed, and it's a decently built psychic type so that's always helpful!
Filmed (FireRed and Platinum) still filming Yellow, Crystal, and Emerald. Still gotta do voice over and editing for the FireRed and Platinum videos. But with Eggsceptional on board it’s a team of 3 now so we’re just going to move faster and faster.
I don’t if this has been said before or if it really matters but you can skip the animation when teaching a mon a move. On the gameboy, the minute the animation starts, you can skip it by pressing “B”. I’m not sure how that would work on PC, I mean, I guess whatever the “B” is bound to.
Dear Scott, I have an observation and a suggestion to make: 1. Substitute is a crazy move, to this day Pokemon AI struggles to understand what to do in the face of a substitute. 2. On the topic of terminology, one thing you may consider is expanding how you evaluate decision-making/plays. One interesting example of such classifying performance in magnitude is from the chess world - where they rate moves on an ordinal scale: with by-the-book plays as the baseline, strong plays are scaled: Good
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon happy to help, Scott! I hope it will also put errors into proportion for others but for you as well! Sometimes misplays are minor/negligible, other times they might cost a pokemon their chance at a decent run time.
After seeing the Ms. Mime playthrough, I already knew you probably should have gone for a Speed nature as soon as I saw the stat distribution. I was thinking of maybe lowering Special Defense, since it's the highest stat, but I'm no expert.
Scott: “I don’t have enough time to do a Hypno run…” Me: “I call BS, the data analyst in you is too damn curious” Scott: “…so of course I’m gonna do another run!” All is right with the world 😂
Scott's "try not to be a perfectionist" challenge, Impossible Difficulty
It's probably a side effect of his adhd
Ms. Mime: Prepare for trouble…
Mewtwo: …and make it double!
Hypno: *Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!*
Hahahahahaha

This particular video has a kind of chaotic mad scientist energy that I absolutely love.
