I'm a pretty new HARDCORE Tonex fan. I don't use any of my vintage tube amps anymore--I just made captures of them on Tonex. I just bought a second one so I can run different amps in stereo. Great video.
As a sound engineer and guitar player this makes the perfect lifesaver for my gigs. I can fit one or two in my peli, backpack or guitar case and be sure that if anything happens to the guitar players I work with I have a killer sounding backup for them or me. I just LOVE it.
Same here. It solves a number of problems as a backup which is weird to say - when have we ever had that type of quality small and affordable enough to be a backup?!
Great channel. Very well presented and love your whole presentation style. A breath of fresh air from clickbait titles and people screaming into the mic. Nice job!
Your original vid about tone x was the reason I bought one. Its been so good for me and what I use it for. I have an Od > Tonex > Timeline out in stereo and that takes care of my needs to headphone jam. I put it through a PA speaker at my friends house for jams and it works great there too. The cab you use for headphones vs live situation is really important. Great video m8. Sweet hair too :)
Hi are you using two tonex one to do stereo? I’m really stuck in understanding this. My hope is to have the toned one after my volume pedal and then be able to use my wet effects in stereo. My use would want to be able to use headphones still and then direct at FOH. But also be able to use my tube amp whenever.
Or plug headphones into this, as it's stereo out, and power it from a USB power bank. Find a way to clip it to your belt and you've got yourself one hell of a lot more versatile bit of a kit than the Katana Go.
@@JonWrightMusicTV complete portability like the others with a rechargeable battery and direct connection to the guitar and they could implement a mix of "best of" Amplitube and ToneX for a great combination of Amp models and FX
Can you explain where your other pedals are in the chain. Right now I have dirt > tonex > stomp input. The. I have the effects loop with all my modulation pedals. Why put the tonex in the loop?
@@brimaidesigns So I have my dirt and pitch stuff going into a Strymon Deco and into the stereo inputs of the Stomp, then I have the stereo send of the Stomp going into my two Tonex One's running in parallel into my stereo time based effects (delay/modulation/reverb) and back into the stereo returns on the Stomp. In the Stomp I have a stereo FX loop block with all my weirder effects and a stereo cab/IR block and compressor at the end. I do this in order to have ultimate flexibility over where the amps are in the chain, and whether I want them hard panned or blended (and I have finite control over the possible phase/polarity issues you get with running two amps via the stereo cab blocks, which is awesome). I also use the Stomp as a MIDI controller with extra footswitches controlling a few of the pedals I have in the effects loop, like my delays and reverbs. It works and sounds great.
I bought two I come from Kemper fractal which I will keep both, but this is going to go on a pedal board for fly dates which I can carry on the plane in my guitar case life is good to be a guitar player right now
I got one yesterday, still getting to know it, but it sounds great. It's actually the first affordable piece of modeling gear that I think is going to stay, rather than sold after a couple of weeks of trying to make it sound at least decent.
Augh! I had last week off and devoted it to perfecting my pedal board, and the whole time I was thinking "I wish I knew when ToneX was coming out with their next incarnation". Now I know. And now I got to redo my pedal board again! I know that's part of the fun of the hobby, but the modeling is improving so rapidly right now that it is much more frequently that something comes along that really changes your approach. Good video! Your pedal board is pretty close to how I have been heading. Now I'm convinced.
Ah man, I feel you. But it’ll often be that way. At least with this it’s hard to imagine really major developments in cost/size/features/sound for a bit. Good luck with the board!
With the new integrated stereo delay in tonex why would you need 2 pedals to have a stereo rig? Wont it be like having identical amps being effected by the effects seperately from left to right with the l. R. Outputs of the tonex. The big tonex in question.
TONEX ONE is nice! Guitar processors can make a big difference in sound depending on the CAB IR you use. actually there are many IR products on the market, but I think DYNAX IR has the best sound. As stated in their product description, DYNAX IR is really fast. When using IRs, the pick attack is sometimes delayed, and it is difficult to add picking nuances, but their IR prevents all of that. It's revolutionary!
Well, this is glorious. Great news for all on a budget and still being able to get wonderful sounds of course. For me... no need. Why should I ditch my Kemper? I already got it, all is setup like I love it. I love the rack version. I got MY preferred sounds, I am 100% comfortable. Cheers!
@@JonWrightMusicTV Apologies. I just remembered, I already commented something similar on the first Tonex video a year ago. Sigh. I am getting old. Imagining me being 16 years old I would definitely get one. A pedal like this for that price... priceless. Cheers from Germany
I have the original Tonex. The main thing I want is to use the app to have complete control of the pedal including editing the active preset and saving it onto the pedal. That's what I do with the Kemper.
So to do 2 Tonex pedals in stereo do you have to come out of another stereo pedal so that you have 2 separate cables 1 each to go to both Tonex pedals?
Thank you! I didn't have 'problems' with them in parallel, but there is inevitable phase interaction. I've raised the question of having a fixed latency with IK. But I didn't need to fix anything with the combinations I used.
@@JonWrightMusicTV That's awesome. Looking for a setup with a Mimiq doubler and two ToneX Ones panned hard left and right through the PA to get a massive guitar sound. My guess having two different amp models and the Mimiq will give a very interesting sound
is the synth pad that comes in around 0:51 also created using the guitar and tonex one or from another source ? i just received my tonex one in the mail yesterday , and after watching this i think i should have ordered a second one, next paycheck, great video and superb intro track, subbed!
If the latest amp modeling can make a raw DI signal sound like any boutique amp imaginable, could it one day make it sound like things we've never heard before? 🤔
It's funny, yesterday I was about to order a Soldano SLO pedal when videos for this little beastie started appearing on TH-cam. So I can effectively have the actual Soldano amp in a pedal half the size and a few quid cheaper. Plus a bunch of other amps and boost pedals. Pre-order is in... can't wait to get this!
The UAFX was my first enjoyable entry into the world of amp sims. Ive always been curious about profiling vs emulation. Now that i can try it for something as cheap as 179 i think i will probably give the Tonex One a try. Love its form factor and functionality.
There’s a whole bunch of ‘end of chain’ products - cab emulators, IR players, modellers - that profilers overlap with. I suspect at this price/size, a lot of people with be experimenting with it like you
Thoughts on using the included compressor when putting other pedals, e.g., OD and boosts, in front of the ToneX One? It’s probably only meant for plugging straight in, yeah?
I think the answer as usual is ‘it depends’. Overdrive into compression can sound nice but as I think you’re alluding to, it’s not the same as compression into overdrive, and the differences are arguably even more significant when dealing with clean boost. I think if I were looking to go between a compressed clean, and a dirty pedal into clean amp, I’d use an external compressor. I think the included compressor is good, but as you say it won’t always be in the ideal place in the signal path.
Interestingly, all of the direct comparisons I have seen of how ToneX compares to Kemper and Quad Cortex show that ToneX tech lags behind in capturing your own amp through the exact same signal path. With that said, if you can find a ToneX One model that works for you, it's unbeatable at this price.
Do you think so? I saw the Studio Rats do a comparison between the two recently, but they didn't include the original amp so it wasn't clear which of the two profilers - which sounded quite different - was more accurate. The null tests I've seen saw the Tonex coming out really well. To be honest though, both are going to have great sounding amps so as you say, just find one you like and you're good to go.
Those little contraptions are subject to providing only the tones supplied into it via its library samples (captures) of the guitars used at the time of capture, it's not going to replicate for the buyer to suit if a different guitar is being used replay such...end or report!
Yeah it’s the definition of ‘no-brainer’. I’ll be running it into an OX STOMP in my studio. Live, I think it’ll be a fuzz/overdrive to go with my Friedman Runt. I think I’m more excited about using it as a stomp box to be honest. 20 flavours to play around with, should be awesome!
