2006 Jeep Commander Transmission Problem

  • I recently purchased a 2006 4.7L V8 Jeep Commander that seems to have a transmission of some sort. I don't know what it is and the dealership has never heard of the situation and sent an inquiry to Chrysler to see if they can come up with anything. Of course when I took the vehicle to be checked out it wouldn't do it for the tech so they really had no idea at all because they haven't seen the problem first hand. Here's the videos I have of the issue.

We are having the same problem, and we took it to Chrysler to get it fix. The mechanic told us that the solenoid went bad... So were charged $405 for a converter, $357 for a solenoid, $7.75 for a sealer, and $3.60 for a nut none... Total labor and parts $1930.31... Today we go to pick it up, and it still makes the same noise and the problem worsen. We left it there to be fixed again... At the moment we are out of $2000, no car, and then had the nerve to tell me it was something else wrong with my car and it'll be $800 more to fix it. Needless to say, I told them I wanted to speak with the owner, he said he'll call me back.. not even two minutes later, he goes... "We'll take care of it... I'm so over it!!!

I have never seen so many comments and still no one has fixed their issue. That’s a very bad sign. My buddies just started doing this and what I have came up with is that the PCM had a software issue which the dealerships were updating and fixing due to a recall. Guess all the people who didn’t know at the time are now stuck with this issue and will most likely have to pay a good bit to get it fixed. Also noticed that the transmissions 3rd gear was having to be rebuilt due to damage that this issue causes. I won’t be buying anything from Jeep that’s for sure!

My jeep commander has overheat temp pop up. The fan kicks on high and low. I've checked my relays replaced my water pump, hoses, thermostat and coolant sensor. Someone on TH-cam said it's just corrosion on the wire on the starter does that sound plausible?

I know this post has been up a few years but I bought an 07 commander with the 3.7 in may of this year and I am getting the same sort of issue and I even have some days where it will not even shift into any lower gears likes its stuck on drive only, also when I start from a slight incline its sounds like the transmission is slipping and the traction light on the dash lights up for a quick second. I hooked it to a code reader and I got nothing for any error codes at all (which surprised me for it being a 12 year old vehicle). Only thing is the whizzing or whining noise i get most of the time while driving but there is no slipping of the transmission, i just hear the noise most of the time but the transmission runs fine, i get what sounds like the slippage upon start up at times from a red light or stop sign, for a few feet then i let off the pedal and then on again and its fine. Anyone found a fix or heard of one for any of these issues as of yet over the past few years?

Take it in to the dealer. There is a programming issue that is well known.

My 2006 (3.7) tiptronic just stopped working, in normal drive, is fine, just cannot shift manually.

Ok so we all never did a good check on the net before buying out rides...So I have a transmission shift issue. It wants to stay in the high gears instead of shifting down when needed. So I started to use the Tip-Tronics shifting side and it works great. BUT>>>when slowing down from freeway speeds down to first in regular mode it make a hard shift to first.

I never did. I just drive it and try and avoid doing it, after many trips to the dealership and trying to explain what happens it just became a runaround.

    • @stevenmeyer4876

No unfortunately not, the dealership did the reprogram on the transmission unit but it was not linked to this problem.

+Steven Meyer water in the transmission, seems to me like it's not enough transmission fluid or too much, maybe even the wrong spec.

Check engine light doesn't have to be on for the ecu / PCM or TCM to have a stored code. Use a scanner tool and check
