The name 'Daredevils' is a fun coincidence, since the DD villain called the Owl debuted in Marvel on the exact same month as the DC Earth 3 Owl Man debuted, in August 1964. (Coincidence?)
@@pietheguy Hello, fellow Comic Connoisseur! I hope you enjoyed the story! (I'd say I hope you enjoyed Sasha's video as well, but what's not to enjoy about them?) :)
I'd like to imagine Batman has a cardboard box labeled "Superman Stuff" with all these wacky items just inside a closet in the Batcave somewhere. I also wonder if a modern-day Superman would ever do something like this, since Batman is always hoarding things to kill him with, lol
I guess since Clark lives in an apartment, he doesn't have room for a lot of Superman's stuff, so he passes it on to his friends instead. Of course, Jimmy as a cub reporter, gets paid less than Clark but I guess he got a bigger and nicer apartment so he has room for the stuff.
If you want a wild, late SIlver Age story, cover Planet of the Capes from Jimmy Olsen 117. The cover has Businessman Superman and Old Prospector Batman bidding on Jimmy as a slave! But the blurb is like 'find out why everyone is wearing a cape!' Like, that wasn't even in my top five of questions I had about the cover
My Head Canon is that Dick Grayson original planning to himself Owlman before hearing about the kryptonian legend of Nightwing and deciding that was a better name for his new costumed persona.
2:41 -You don't know that! Sometimes it happens all at once with guys! Just suddenly, boom! Puberty! Growth spurt! Angst! Owl masks! It's basically what happened with Bruce..
Made me remember about that Worlds Finnest Issue that revealed Bruce Wayne had a secret, evil brother all these years: Thomas Wayne Jr. Crazy to think that was cannon in pre-crisis yet never brought up
After the problems that occurred when Bruce's father went to a fancy dress gala as a Batman you would have thought he would avoid appearing as fictional superheroes at these events.
"Owlman" always makes me think of the Watchman, not any version of Batman. I didn't have any exposure to the Crime Syndicate until the Brave & The Bold cartoon, so the only evil DC variants I grew up with were the Superfiends from Superfriends.
This story raises many questions. Was Bruce going to make it publicly known that Dick got aged by an adult? Why is Superman sending Batman poison gas? Why didn't Dick consider this identity when he became Nightwing? Why can't there be another Batman?
I mean some of them have answers like Because Superman couldn't see through the container of the gas (and so also didn't know it was poison gas) and so gave it one of his most trusted and experienced friends to figure out what's up with it. By the time Dick became Nightwing did Evil earth 3 Owlman already become a thing so he properly doesn't want to associate with that guy. It also wouldn't showcase his admiration for Superman ether. Its not that they can't be another Batman is that as Bruce rightly concluded was Dick still not a man in his head just in his body and so couldn't be a batMAN.
Bruce didn't want another Batman because, as stated, Dick is still a boy mentally (A Shazam type situation). Then Dick chose the Owlman persona and I guess it just stuck. Also two Batmen is confusing.
Also the original Owlman was a Dell comics superhero in the 40's with a very short revival in the 60s, so there might have been copyright infringe case brought in.
This was a lot of fun! Loved your voices for the Daredevils. My biggest problem with the Owlman costume is the texture, not the color. It looks like he has scales. I don't know, there's something fishy about that costume. :D
I'm so glad you made this video Sasha! Really love the history of the Bat family! There's some WILD stuff in there by today's standards! Batman as a noir detective (probably some of The Shadow's influence?) Probably some of my favorite parts of BTAS batman are callbacks Batman as the detective… So much history there!
Wow, I did not know that Robin was Owlman! The outfit doesn't look too bad , either. I'm surprised they never reprised Dick as Owlman im later years. And as long as we're "celebrating" Robin, then his solo series in Star Spangled Comics #65-130 (1947-1952), deserves some attention, too! From what I"ve read of it, it seems to have been a pretty good series.
Yeah, I've read of few of those when I got my hands on some cheap copies. Some of them are Robin solo with Batman showing in the first and possible last page, as he is going out of town to fight crime. Some of them are Batman horning in on Robin's adventure.
I like the owl-centric mask and wings for Dick Grayson as Owl-man. I wish he had a full suit like that though instead of the green Peter-Pan leotard he has. 5:38 - 5:48, I agree the owl-mask looked 'cozy in that panel, like you could pet it, like it's got that feather[y] lightness.
9:09 both also Thanks for explaining and honestly Dick being Owlwing was amazing but Nightwing is better for him and Earth 3 animated Owlman is better than Grayson
I'm a big comic book person and I've been reading everything way in the 60 and beyond to the golden and silver age I had forgot that one. Thanks for a good trip down memory lane.🎉
Daredevil's original costume?! What about the costume of the Daredevil in public domain? With his split down the middle, two color, scheme. Isn't he the original Daredevil and thus the original costume? Hair splitting? Maybe.
They should have done a follow up story about how the three daredevils escaped from prison by using their acrobatics and launched into another series of crimes in Gotham based on their abilities.
What about the Golden/ Silver age Batman suit that Robin wore. It had the Robin logo where the Bat would be. Robin wore it to pretend to Batman to save Bruce
Hey TY as usual Sasha GREAT VIDEO. The voices are back whoo hooo lol Like the idea. BUT did you know that DELL COMICS had a Golden Age Hero called The Owl(man) and "his" sidekick Owl Girl. His costume looks just like the Black Panthers plus a cape. Lol Just FYI. As for What Bruce wares to the Costume Ball.? How about that "Daredevil" all red costume. ?? Blessings...
I love the Dell Comics Owl! Easily one of my favorite more obscure Golden Age characters. I also enjoyed those two Silver Age issues where Jerry Siegel used him to parody the Adam West Batman. Also, the Golden Age Mary Marvel villain Nite-Owl.
I read this story in an annual. Thanks for covering this. If you have not done one that I haven't run across, please do a video on Batman becoming Starman.
There's another early Batman adventure where the Dynamic Duo gain a new ally called the Eagle (I won't spoil the reveal of who the character really is in case you cover the story someday) - bird themes seem to be really popular among Batman characters for some reason.
Hmmm...I'm wondering if the Daredevils were an influence for Marvel's Daredevil's character design. They have the same red costume, interesting. 🤔 By the way, I also get the feeling about Dick Grayson being the potential Talon from the Courts of the Owls' idea came from this comic. (I noticed you mentioned the Dick Grayson Talon concept, you're always up to date on stuff, Sasha! That's why I love your channel!)
I laughed because I pictured Jimmy confronting Dick and being like "WTF are you doing! Transforming into something after inhaling or swallowing a substance Superman left is MY thing". 😆
Ifl this would make a great one-off for a modern cartoon. It's classic Dick Grayson in a way we don't really get anymore, where he's eager to prove himself.
Why not Robin-Man? Artistically it wouldn't have been that different. Catwoman with big head should have had a mini moment, with a very AW "you'll understand when your older" line. Has there been a ||Robin-Man?
If you liked this, well well well have you heard of the tale of the Flying Fox? Bruce Wayne’s super hero identity in continuity in silver age? Adventure Comic 275
Who knew Dick Grayson even had regular kid friends?? And I love that he still has his little kid voice as a man. (I guess not every part of him ended up growing...)
The Jokester version of Talon and Owlman is intersting. Because Jason Todd is able to notise that Owlman is himself. Also that you see Jokester kill Tomas Wayne. So was Talon that ran away with Duela Dent suppose to be Tim Drake? What happend to Dick Grayson in that version of Earth 3? I know their was a whole thing about Talon and Duela joining teen titens. But i never read that.
I know the clumsiness is due to Dick not being used to a larger body, but I like to think it’s because of the MASSIVE WINGS on the thing, seriously those things do not look like they’d be light and they’re actually throwing his balance off.
Gold Or Green which Owlman costume looks better?
Gold all the way
Gold.
Surprisingly, I actually think the green works, with a slightly better designed costume this would be awesome to see again.
Definitely gold.
Green.
That Owlman costume was Bruce's only chance to show his legs in public but Dick had to ruin it.
Back to the orphanage with him!

Bruce could've still worn the costume. He could say that he got it made after the "real" Owlman disappeared.
Lol, he was inspired by Gotham's latest vigilante.
Plus at least this gang knows that wasn't Bruce Wayne.

Sasha saying, "Frowny Face" gave me a great giggle.

What issue of "World's Finest" is that?
Superman was just trying to protect his future son, Jon, from that gas
Ha, Guess the whole nightwing always meant to be talon is a very lose reference to this lol
What would be an example of a win reference?
After the problems that occurred when Bruce's father went to a fancy dress gala as a Batman you would have thought he would avoid appearing as fictional superheroes at these events.
Am I the only one who thinks his costume looks like if Aquaman, Catman, and Hawkman were mushed together?
Bill Finger was such a special talent
I’ll give a hoot for original Owlman!
If it's Bill Finger , it's undisputably Cannon 📝
I believe that, as a lot of us have grown loving Nightwing, we never question the name. But I wonder, would Owlman be cooler at first sight?
5:20 - And thus Dick went on to play the stormtrooper on Vader's right side in the intro scene of Star Wars.
That’s why OG Owlman’s mask doesn’t cover his eyes. He kept bumping into poles.
This is the OG Owlman
One of these days, Batman is going to look at us and say: stop trying to make Owlman happen. It's not going to happen.
Replace Owlman with Batman Who Laughs and this is dead on.
“batman and robin examine a queer object” I giggled im sorry
As a queer person, I also giggled. It'll be fine 😂😂
Im gay! thats what made me giggle even more 😅
"dick got a lot of growing to do, before he becomes a REAL man..."
