@GetHip, some points you got wrong, np as its hard to use hmd, but overall very fair review good job: 1. FFR - fixed foveated rendering - it looks wrong in your video like a rectangle, once you changed it you needed to restart steamvr - then its oval and only on periphery 2. for colours make sure you set backlight option ro 100%, if it looks cold you may set only green channels brightness to -1 and keep 0 for other values, also reshade plugin makes games look like index level colours 3. culling on periphery - many games allow to disable it, otherwise you can turn Parallel projection and fix it, it requires experience but it can be overcome 4. for performance i find 8kx better than G2/VP2, I can play dirt rally 2.0 on almost all ultras apart shadows and on 150/120 fov with reshade plugin, it looks spectacular and motion smoothing (should be enabled in pittool and PP turned off) works very well Also if setup properly DCS looks just so cool in this thing

I feel the greatest point to the Pimax is obviously the FOV, the resolution doesn't bother me so much with the Quest. But when I try to increase the FOV on Quest 2 by taking off the face cover, it just feels so much more immersive. That's what they need to do for Quest 3 and do it in a way that minimises motion sickness with maybe blurred border using eye tracking
I hate how It's so impossible to find a really high quality headset without the problems stacking up along with it. I don't know about you, but there's no way I'm gonna spend thousands of dollars for something that doesn't even work very well. I'm glad you make these vids. Man that 200 degree headset is crazy. I have two Quest 2s one 256gb and one 64gb and love them. Being wireless is awesome and being able to play PCVR is great. It is so much better for newbies to be wireless and to be able to take it places and use it. We took our travel trailer to an RV Park and they had a clubhouse and it was awesome to be able to play in that huge area and to play without a puter and the value for $299 or $399 is amazing.

The one thing I love about the pimax is the design, it looks so futuristic and like a quality piece of hardware whereas the quest 2 does look a bit cheaply made to me(especially the default strap, the quest 2 was my first personally owned headset so I've had more time to mull over it's design features but that's my opinion right now)

As someone who plays a lot of beat saber on quest 2 (with Virtual Desktop and Steam VR), the best feature for my use case would probably be the 200-degree FOV. It'd make everything easier to see. Plus manual IPD Adjustment. I can't get a proper IPD on my quest 2.

For me a new pimax User most of the Software issues for what I know have been resolved there's alot more support for the pimax headsets. Changing ur colour settings for the lenses is a game changer

FINNALY someone has the guts to talk honestly about this thing. People are just praising the fov and sweet spot of this thing like its soooo much better than the index or the Reverb G2 (which i own). It almost gave me the perception that you could look onto the dashboard of a car without any blur. On my Reverb i can read the dash but its a little bit blurry. But you can confirm or deny if this was indeed the case.
I genuinely think that the pimax has better graphics than the oculus. While the oculus has a very display. It doesn’t over throw the $2000 pimax. Great video keep it up
Favorite feature? Easy. The FOV. I find myself feeling let down by the 90 degrees of FOV in the quest 2. So, an upgrade from here would be really good.
My current VR setup is HTC VIVE with Valve Index controllers, it’s my sweet spot because while I do want to upgrade to the Index in the future, the VIVE is compatible with the controllers and also the base stations.
Honestly, the Pimax looks great and the FOV is amazing, but the portability of the quest is one of my favorite features! Both have their pros and cons.
I've flown in DCS with the original oculus and a vive pro, ive used my friends crystal and the others don't even compare to it. I can read gauges and panels without having to lean forward as with every other headset.
This is so late but I wanted to mention a few things that Pimax apparently didn't make you aware of and to provide information to prospective buyers.. First - The Pimax Experience software. This is in beta and is a separate piece that loads after pitools. This includes so much more functionality than pitools and it's in VR. Here is where you have your settings for brightness and colors letting you set it to look as good as any other headset on the market. It's also a launcher and profile editor for your games and it will collect and launch your games from steam, oculus, vive etc. It also includes a mediocre, but usable virtual desktop. Finally for game support, enabling parallel projection will fix many compatibility issues - but at a performance cost of 20-30%. You can also run it at a lower FoV of 150 or 120 degrees. 150 still looks great and 120 will put you on par with the Index. Finally they are working on 90Hz for the Native 4k. Also I didn't see it mentioned, but you can run at upscaled half resolution at 114Hz. Don't bother with the hand tracking or eye tracking modules. There just isn't enough support for hand tracking and from what I have seeing in reviews, the eye tracking is less than stellar.

Yes, but you wouldn't want to. You can't see your keyboard in vr, and typing in vr with controllers is a nightmare. Stick to your irl setups for now! Plus using a headset will cause discomfort over time, i have quest 2, i ordered a pimax artisan a few days ago, vr will always cause strain until we can get the weight of the headset under 400 grams or less.

I own both a Pimax 8KX (which I am returning) and Oculus Quest 2 for DCS and I find your review very accurate. I actually prefer the Oculus Quest 2 and find it overall a better headset for this game because of the issues you describe, plus there is a very slight grainyness like a photo taken in low light conditions. The machine I run it on is an AMD Ryzen 9 3900X 12-Core Processor 3.80 GHz, 32 GB RAM, Geforce RTX 3080Ti, and I have to reduce resolution and graphics quality to such an extent that the only benefit I get is a wider FOV at an immense cost to graphics quality and resolution, not to mention the $1,000 dollars + base station + controllers whereas the Quest 2 does an overall better job at actually displaying the warbirds I am trying to shoot at. I had the itch for it when another well-known youtuber said it was so vivid the sunlight was bothering his eyes in the game (total farce); what I appreciate about your videos is that you never seem to have this kind of hype that so many others keep doing.
It’s a really cool headset and I would really hope that oculus makes the quest 3 have the same visual and also makes the quest have a cool design on the front like the other headset.

The reason for the tracking deteriorating overtime is because to batteries you use. Use 1.5 volt batteries, not 1.2 volt.

I have the same gpu (msi suprim 3090) and pimax 8kx and no issue with tracking delay.(Beat saber 8 stars songs pass) Something wrong with his setup.
Meanwhile it literally came out before the 30 series existed and was in development before the 20 series was even announced.

The machine I run it on is an AMD Ryzen 9 3900X 12-Core Processor 3.80 GHz, 32 GB RAM, Geforce RTX 3080Ti, and I have to reduce resolution and graphics quality to such an extent that the only benefit I get is a wider FOV at an immense cost to graphics quality and resolution, not to mention the $1,000 dollars + base station + controllers whereas the Quest 2 does an overall better job at actually displaying the warbirds I am trying to shoot at. I had the itch for it when another well-known youtuber said it was so vivid the sunlight was bothering his eyes in the game (total farce); what I appreciate about your videos is that you never seem to have this kind of hype that so many others keep doing.
I think the best feature is that design it has, looks like something out of a sci-fi movie, but is too bad the weight and other features ruin it
It’s a really cool headset and I would really hope that oculus makes the quest 3 have the same visual and also makes the quest have a cool design on the front like the other headset.
My favorite feature of the pimax is that if I can afford the headset, I made it in life.
Actually though, I think the 200 degree FOV is a cool feature if it is utilized properly in games
