Thank you! I relied on this video to replace the cabin air filter on my 2012 Mazda5. It was a PAIN! I will NEVER again replace the filter myself. What a pain!

Sometimes I have to remind myself that engineers are people too and not just demons sent up from the depths of hell to torment me.

WHO EVER DESIGNED THIS IS INDEED A MONSTER I work at a dealership (not Mazda) but had to do these filters since it was a trade in. Just so you all know the labor time for this is 50 min and that's for experienced technicans who you would expect to do it fast than at home jobs. If you are doing this at home good for you and good luck, expect it to take more than an hour.

What kind of evil MONSTER designed this to be so difficult? I’ve got broad shoulders I can’t even fit in there to find the screws!!!!

After owning several Toyotas, I must say... this some bullshit. LOL

Thank you for the video. Have. 2014 Mazda 5, can confirm that it’s 4 screws and the electrical as are not necessary to remove (although if you did, you’d get a bit more room to get that annoying 4th screw at the top).
Hand screwed the 4th one back in and then tightened with a stubby. Fortunately I’m still young enough to get down in that very uncomfortable position).
Paid $25 for the filter and put in 15 min for the install. Versus the $85 dealer was charging! Will do again in the future

I found you don't have to disconnect the wire connectors. They pull away with the
filter panel. You DO need the stubby screwdriver for that very difficult 4th screw which I am not putting back.

Great video! Thank you very much. I'm attempting this soon so wish me luck with less than an hour. Sidenote - I've always thought stubby's should be called chubby's too 😅

Great directions, thanks! But an awful job, kept thinking I should have paid the dealer to install it! lol But I did get it done and all screws back where they belong. There are 5 screws, btw.

    No.
there are two push latches the you can release at the front and the panel will drop down. It is held in at the back by a slot fit, so no latching.

Ya, Stupid Amazon parts identifier is not working correctly.
It is listed as Mazda 3 part but not Mazda 5, even though they use the exactly same filters. Don't worry, as long as you get that part number, it will work.

Did you remove the glove compartment door first to get under the panel?

Comrade! My 2013 Mazda5 has 4 screws, more or less just like yours, bot with one more. However, when all 4 are out, the cover is loose, but something else has snagged it in the top forward corner! Any ideas?

There is a small screw on the top. I can't recall now if 4 or 5 screws total. Top screw was the worst, I did not bother putting it back in.

This job is a BEAR to do. Accessing all the screws is challenging enough, but the video skips the most difficult part - installing the bottom filter while holding the top on in place. There is no guide inside the housing to hold the filters in place. They basically just get pushed up against the internal fins. I used a screwdriver to hold the upper one while guiding the lower filter into the upper filter groove. All while face up lying across the door threshold and arms jammed into footwell. When I get out of traction I’m going to pay Mazda a visit....
