I personally don’t think it’s because he’s apart of the gang but due to the facts that’s he’s one of their main villain or more iconic the term main group doesn’t have to hint to them being a part of the gang just him being a big villain. Due to the fact that if you think of hxh villian you’ll most likely see hisoka. It’s the same thing with the akatsuki it’s doesn’t mean he’s apart of the gang just saying .

Hisoka is that plus one that no one expected to be there but they're not against him being there either. But with the Phantom Troupe he's just there. it's clear that he doesn't get along well with them making us question how he 'joined' in the first place and it overall just feels forced. The chemistry that Hisoka has with the main characters is done perfectly while with the troupe it's out of the blue, coming as less of a shock that he's just there to fight Chrollo. Even if the context of him wanting to fight was taken away, we still wouldn't be surprised by the betrayal. Even though Hisoka wants to fight Gon one day just to kill him, he's still protective of Gon in his own twisted way as seen in the Chairman arc when he warns Killua by causing Illumi to have a bloodlust. We never see him behave such a way towards any of the troupe members. Not to mention in the 2 movies he's seen helping the Gon and his friends even if it's just to benefit himself. There's also Nightmare of Zoldyck musical where he's given a more fun portrayal instead of a deadly magician running around. Still he aids Gon against Illumi. Just wanted to put that out there.

It's like a nun pray to god and getting a miracle produced by nen (she even did'nt need to know about Nen, just a innate talent like nosstrade girl) and Tah-dah, We have a miracle maded by Faith (more Faith means more nen, because psycological aspect makes nen stronger or weaker) Or process like praying at the morning, Afternoon, evening, etc. Make nen stronger to do that kind of "miracle". Because rules and vows at the same time could be in psycologic aspect, like Netero, he need do always a kind of signs with the hands before doing the attack with his Nen ability, because that signs were he used to do when he was training before.
