Peter I have developed my love for bonsai through watching your videos thank you so much can you tell me which of your books would be best for a beginner
Mr Chang thank you, I use to like bonsai I tried a few times but too many people showing their trees but didn't teach you anything .you are an exeĺlent teacher so I got back on the hobby. I am cutting trees at home ,making cuttings I think I'm going to kill my garden but I will have bonsai's 🤣🤣 . From Australia
I'm quite new to bonsai (and plants in general). My mother got me a snowflake aralia that I have seen a very small handful of people on YT turn into a bonsai tree. There aren't very many informative videos out there in terms of styling and pruning this type of plant. Have you worked with it before? Do you have any tips/advice on how to shape it in a visually appealing way? I don't really know how to visualize the end result in order to strategize my cutting.
I have a question unrelated to this video but I figured ild put it on your latest video I'm trying to grow an eastern white cedar as bonsia but I don't know what type of soil I should use. I was hoping you would know this with your wealth of information.
@Herons Bonsai What do you suggest I do with the 0% humidity in Southern California? Do I mist my bonsai every hour to help give it some humidity? I’m not sure what to do because my juniper bonsai is slowly shriveling up because of the humidity.
Sorry about what's happening in California, I hope things get better there soon. I was going to suggest a humidity tray with gravel and water to help it, but then I saw it was a juniper, so I'm guessing it's outside. That will dry up fast... Thinking way outside the box here... I set up a DIY solar hummingbird bath this year. It was simple enough, and it doesn't dry out. You could set up something like that and keep the tree by it. Just keep the flowing water away from the roots of the tree. Might be a way to help your tree.
Dear Mr.Chan, thank you very much for sharing your valuable experience. I really enjoying watch every bit of it. May I know if I can trim the black pine every month in the year? When can I decandle the pine? Thank you. Best regards, Helen Chen
I love your videos! I have a question though. I am starting my first bonsai out of a young eastern red cedar (juniperus virginiana) that I dug out of my backyard. My issue is the main root is about 30 cm long. How do I work with this tree, in terms of potting? Right now I have the tree in a deep pot. I heard that it's not healthy to cut the main root. Any advice would be welcome. Thank you.
Healthy tree can cut into wire so fast but time will heal or not, doesn't really matter, you don't judge your children by their looks, your reward is the care you give unselfishly.
Peter, where do you get your growing baskets that you use to strengthen your trees? I have been trying to find them for months as I am amassing trees quickly that could really use your method to grow better. Even just their brand name might help me to locate some. I don't even see them at my local nurseries. On a much happier note, I loved this little video! I am also recieving my first Deshojo tomorrow and I can barely contain my excitement!
@@peterchan3100 I'll see if I can find them, i'm still not having much luck to be honest. I have some alternative options, but I get the feeling the ones you use are the best choice. Thanks for the suggestion, Peter. I'm having better luck already :)
I also would like to know the answer. On one hand it looks quite nice sorta like a barley weave often carved into wooden columns, on thee other hand the scaring draws your eyes because you know it’s not supposed to be there
A lot of that will grow out in a few seasons. When they are young and growing very fast like this, scarring can happen really fast. As long as it’s not too deep, it does clear up.
If you wanted to get really carried away, you could use some careful knife work to break up the appearance so it’s not so regular/symmetrical and draws the eye less. Some gentle, staggered, vertical cuts would work.
I think the scarring was done on purpose there, it's supposed to make the trunk look older, you see it in a stage of development, it will be really nice as it gets older :)
Do you find you adjust the soil for the pines at all? I have the most trouble, I've had two black pines die within the year with the needles browning and dying off.
i have a bonsai kit that i purchased last year and have failed at every attempt. its a sow and grow seed starter kit for bonsai that contains instructions on how to grow. 9 weeks is my longest surviving success that recently wilted and perished like the previous. the base of the stem sort-of shrivels and weakens turning a brownish discoloration that doesn't seem to spread to the roots.

Hi, i love your videos. ^^ What happened to the trunk at the base? It has a very strange pattern. It is like a spring.
Bad wiring but the marks will grow out in a couple of years
That's some severe wire scarring on the lower trunk, does not look good, will that always be there?

And I've seen some wrap new wire the other way so there is an opposite scar. That was on ficus. Don't know about pines.
Do you find you adjust the soil for the pines at all? I have the most trouble, I've had two black pines die within the year with the needles browning and dying off.
Must be something wrong you are doing. Pines are very tough
how do you care for (pine) seedlings?
mine keep dying after a few weeks..
could it be the climate?
Could be a Wilting disease. Tell me what you are doing and can then try and help you
