Just had this with my car changed the 2 temperature sensors fan was still on. Then changed the resistor. Fan was still on. Bought a new thermostat comes complete with housing unit £17.89 of eBay stuck that in myself pure easy 3 bolts. Seems to have done the trick. My fans off. Warning light is off car running like a dream. You also have to top up coolant so buy 2-3 litres as you lose almost all of it when changing the thermostat. X
Had the same symptoms and got a reading of 1.4 ohms Fitted replacement with 13 ohm resistance and problem solved. Geat video Dave
Had same problem mate and any basic code reader won’t show faults. Good film mate thanks very much
Cream job there Dave, was putting a zafira on the ramp today for a new clutch , 1.6 petrol on a 10 plate , there was one on the ramp before it , let it down , zafira on , wont go up , loud metal bang , 2/3 mm turning of chain, looks like lift nut knackered , had to farm the job out to my mate , not doing that on the floor , good job my mate fixes and sells ramps , and it's a Hoffman 2 post x ford main agent , fully maintained b4 me , still gets serviced and chain adjustment etc , at least the car was on the floor , once spent 2 1/2 hours when electric off and had to manually wind ramp down with ratchet and big socket , tired arms , customer wanted car back that night 😂👍
aw man hate that,. ive had no bother with my lift as yet, touch wood, just had to change the rubber pads and lube runners often
I work on cars all day at work and then come home and watch people work on cars.
James I’m exactly the same as you mate we are all 🤪
I’m a car trader. I come home look more and more cars. Like an addiction. I’ve had a site fire lost business premises 3 months. 2 months in so bored I’m fiddling with broken GMs and Pugs with very limited success. Could you help like Dave. I’ve a corsa part ex. Came in needing crank case oil leak. Garage sorted. Once left garage Corsa pressurised driving away and learnt put on thermo water pump new header tank. They said they couldn’t stop it overheating. It didn’t go in with one !!! It’s still kinda overheating now. Big time. Unless thermo not present , it’s a pressure cooker with lovely water and oil. Don’t get it. Messed with it loads. Bled it. Isolated parts. It’s a cooker still. ….
…... Struggling I am, head scratching ; here’s where I am. 2x new Thermo and a new water pump. I still have a big over heat situation . I have great oil and water condition but on scanner it jumps to 121c to 125 and quickly . Terrible. Fan only kicks in at 110c. Wrong by 12-15 degrees I believe . This is over just 2 miles it gets to 125c. It’s like the thermo stays closed but it cannot be. I tested both new thermo in 100c boiling water. They didn’t move. But brand new boxed 2. Same model as yours shown 1.2 xep engine. However. Should I remove the new thermo and run car with housing only, thermo removed, straight through ….. It doesn’t run with an overheat. It runs normal. Over 25 miles. I don’t believe this is head gasket. I’ve isolated all. Water pump does pump. It runs fine with bad practice no thermo status. Any ideas. It’s totally blown my head. Wrecked it. I’m no mechanic. I’m on the learn . Thanks Dan.
Easy job. Thanks so much for the help. Solved my issue
this saved me a load of time diagnosing dad's corsa - excellent commentary and top tips - many thanks :)
I have similar problem mechanic thinks its a fan sensor
Good video dave.. Nice to see that gm has the same issues world wide 😂.
HAve a good night.
Very entertaining love his voice, topman😉
Nice video Dave as always. I had one start of this week with the same fault. Cheers
Gift mate
Same problem here, i replaced the thermostat and solved! Thx.
Cheers Dave , as always , brilliant video mate . Thanks 👍
Great video, may I ask please….when you tested the thermostat resistance, the range was M Ohms. My reading is fluctuating around 3.4 on M but OL on normal range. I’ve checked the harness terminals with a test light and it’s ok. Is this showing a faulty thermostat with the ohms reading? Not sure what resistance I should be getting. Any help would be gratefully appreciated.
Nice and easy job Dave.
I’ve had an issue with my Corsa D 1.2 for 2 weeks now, been investigating it via TH-cam videos and googling, I’ve got a amber car symbol with spanner showing on my dash, I serviced my car myself oil/filter etc but the fan is constantly running, I changed the radiator coolant sensor as I thought it was that, fan still running even when cold, I’ve bought a new thermostat which I’m doing this weekend. I’ve checked the relays and radiator resistor all looks ok
Did you ever fix this issue? I’m experiencing the exact same problem
@@fin4946 Lol same here, i reckon its the thermostat housing where the thermostat sits inside, as my thermostat heater control circuit is showing as High.
AmarR35 I fixed the issue of the fan being constantly on. All it needed was a brand new thermostat unit, quick and easy change 👍
@@fin4946 cheers am gonna do that as soon as, iv had my warning light and fan spinning all the time since summer 2019 loool..... Did you get an OBD 2 connected to see any fault codes mate?
AmarR35 Yh connected it and the code was P0599 on mine, I had the service light come up on the dash with the fan constantly running. The car runs so much better now it’s fixed
nice wee handy one for you Dave.
Great stuff .very infofmative .. thankyou dave 👍👍👍
Nice work Dave !!! that funnel looked like quite the bit of kit...
Handy wee job it is, bit like the big yellow lisle spill free funnel you get in the U. S. It has rubber adapters to fit a lot of Euroboxes
Dave, the connections o the thermostat body, are you saying that there for a heater which then opens the thermostat rather than being some form of temperature sensor?
Hi dave. Thanks for such a usefull video
I got same problem. I got PO597 and same b2652-04 as well. Whats the solution
very helpful...much appreciated
Nice one i have a fluctuating coolant temperature should it stay at 90 degrees? A VW 2.0tdi
hello friend .I also replaced a thermostat in a car like yours. I noticed that I was in the parking and the radiator fan didn't stop spinning when the car is 90 Degrees . Is this normal?
Bonsoir merci de répondre, jai une opel corsa d essence la tempérarutre d'eau atteint 108 et 110 degrés en circulation et en route se fix en 100 degrés est-ce que c est normal ou non😊😊
Good content Dave , could you let me know where you purchased that quick fill funnel please

This is the same issue im having with mine, same model. Ironically i was half way out my street to the garage when the engine temp warning light started flashing red at me. And there was an ever so slight burning smell.... don't think its wise to drive. Any idea what it could be? I'm bricking myself that its gonna cost a bomb whatever it is
mine also not allways 30 sec or something turning on fan what should i do bro ? not every day and month
Nice work Dave...I like the relaxed pace of the video. Cheers Pal
Cheers Ian
A great video Dave & happy new year
Cheers Peter and happy new year
thnks for informative videos
Dave what leads have you got plugged into the thermostat plug? I’m looking for a decent multimeter lead set for automotive use.

Please can you respond. I have white smoke coming out of exhaust, and inside I saw a traces of antifreeze, and saw the drops of water leaking from the exhaust. I have the whole coolant reservoir and cap changed, and think also some plastic hose. But the car still loses the cooling liquid. After a month it dropped pver 3 thumbs down. The car has lesser strength I think, average consumption increased to 10.5km in the city. I don't know if that's notmal, but the sound of motor is louder and also the sound of belt I can hear in cabin while driving. I have given over 1000 dollars for the mechanics, and really don't have anymore to waist. :( Can you give some advice please, thanks in advance:)
Its Corsa D 1.4 ecotec/ automatic
Head gasket
Watched video 5 times more. I thus tested both new Mahle ThermoS to same 15 ohms. So they both work. But they don’t open on boiling water test. ** Electronically controllled ** ? … water pipe to thermo on housing alone straight through pipe now warm and no overheat. Dave have you seen the electronically controlled heated thermostat electric connector pin to be faulty. Maybe it’s a wire problem to the thermo Dave , or ECU ? Thermo are not faulty. Car only overheats due to these new Marle being stuck closed.
What did you find for a fix for this?
@@bigmanlogo959 I changed the thermo. Twice. Wasn’t this. I took out the thermo inside the housing and drove fine didn’t overheat. I think the electrics were telling the thermo circuit to stay closed. So removed it.
I've done quite few of these and some stats have a spring in them and some don't, I've always suspected the ones that didn't have been replaced elsewhere before and the spring has been tossed in the bin, but I'm not sure. All the stats have that lug on the back keeping them in place but I can see the usefulness of the spring being there to keep it in place. That bad fitting pipe would have you believe it was replaced or at least removed before, and you had no spring. So what's correct, spring or no spring?
hi Simon, i dont't ever recall a spring at the back. Do you mean at the hose end?
@@davesterl At the end of the thermostat in the head. I've seen it a few times, but not always.
@@SMAutomotive ahh ok, can't say I've ever seen that mate
Great video dave again very informative and great watch. Were did you get the funnel from ?
Its Laser 5453
Dave. Thanks for comments other day. Struggling I am, head scratching ; here’s where I am. 2x new Thermo and a new water pump. I still have a big over heat situation . Put 12 volts to thermo to see if it opens off the car. Pin close to engine side is positive. I use Mahle thermos. If lower radiator pipe is cold thermo is closed
@@davesterl that’s exactly what I thought !! I have a cold pipe. My problem is I replaced the new Marle one with exact same Marle one. And pipe remains cold. Can two Marle thermo be defective. Never ? It’s a mechanical part , I’ve looked videos from Marle. Could anything stop the Marle from working outside of temperature on the innards of the Thermo itself. I’ll try a 12v thanks ! This has blown my mind. I know it’s Thermo. So I bought it again. And it’s still pressuring and still a cold pipe maybe 5 hours messing in.
@@davesterl mahle tm 37 103 made 02.12.21. Put both Mahle to 12v car. And also to 9v square domestic battery. Doesn’t move whatsoever. Either. Hmmmmm. These are new boxed. Brand new. Same part model. Brand. Boxed.
@@davesterl isolated this down to wiring or circuit. I’ll get a circuit tester and check the power to the thermo. Thanks. I’m suspecting after speaking electrician this could be the relay the rad circuit is on. Radiator itself only opens at 110c not 95-98
@@zzhughesd i thought you tested the thermos?? They open at 103. Pulse witdth signal on ground side, you can see it happening on a scope
Would an in op fan allow water header tank bubble over in under 4 mins idling stationary please ? I’ve had a water pump. New thermo. But fan stopped working. Wondering if this why still boiling pressuring over ?? Thaksn
did you run fan on scan tool? 'boiling pressuring over' ???? If pipes not hard and coolant overflows when hot - check expansion bottle cap. Any decent garage can do some basic tests
@@davesterl old scan tool burnt in fire. Couple grand one. What a job.. There is a major sketch here this car. Radiator could have been intermittently faulty. Back working again plugs off and on. Water pump seen working. Tonight. Dry bone pipe off. But is now not cooking. . I’ve taken out the thermo inbetween the thermo housing. Now fan comes on at start stays on. Wasn’t earlier at all. And now Not overheating. Was earlier . Just had a new almost OEM thermo. Suspect may be dead new thermo ?? Canibilised old thermo. Odd one.
Hi I have the same Opel Corsa and the engine temperature rises to 110 degrees and does not turn on the radiator fan the radiator fan is good I checked it briefly What could be the reasons
Alles in Ordnung. Das Thermostat regelt zwischen 95-110 Grad Celsius. Ist normal.
Change termostat electric controle
The person that gave you a thumbs down Dave is probably the dafty who worked on the car previously!
Haha, could well be. Good one
This is the exact same as what’s happening with my corsa d I’ve been looking everywhere, I have changed literally everything to do with the cooling system and still the same I’m getting it on a proper diagnosis machine tomorrow! 🥴
Thanks ….👍👍👍
