- The engine management light was on, the engine was running rough, the cooling fan was on constantly when the engine running.
in this video I show how to repair the vehicle by replacing the coolant sensor in the radiator we also read the codes and reset the system on the Vauxhall Corsa D 1.2 Twinport 2012
Link to code reader video • How To Use A EOBD Code...
Fault codes found were
P00b4 coolant temperature sensor
P00b7 coolant level low
P0106 intake manifold pressure sensor
P0171 mixture adaptation lean

The cooling fan fuse is in the under bonnet fuse box, number 8 a big 40amp fuse.
3 years on this video is still helping people mate thank you! Struggled getting the clip back on but managed to do it without a trip to the garage, sensor was 12.90 from Motorserv. EML gone no constant fan noise very happy!!
Brilliant, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
5:55/9:44 Spot on for me, the radiator temperature sensor was replaced, just shy of £20 from vauxhall dealer and the fan went back to normal, not on at first ignition, and didn't stay on, but then a long, long (appeared) wait, why is it not coming back on?
No worries, it's now working just fine, after a quick spin to warm the engine
.
Also of note, I had no MIL/check-engine dashboard warning lights and no codes found using my own OBDII device, just a fast spinning full on cooling fan!
I've also replaced this week "on advice" from the web, the Radiator's resistor coil, with no joy, but only £13 wasted ( or invested, as its a new shiny part ).
Happy days, so-far, thank you for the video help.
Thanks for the great information👍🏻👍🏻🛠
...forgot to add the sensor detail, if it helps anyone. Qty 1 SENSOR GR.1.150 ( for my '65 plate 1.2 sri. Corsa)
Not only that, no sooner had I mentioned Corsa, he didn't (the parts technician) even listen to the registration, he just said "1150" so he's either good with his part numbers, or its a common component/issue!
thought it was the thermostat to begin with, good video. Cheers!
Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Thank you !!! My car is running perfectly again. Spot on video in every single detail. And thanks for the explanation at the end. Cheers!
Glad it helped, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Thanks a lot mate I have been struggling with this problem. Change the top sensor about four times and still no good. Then you told me there was one at the bottom it was that one thanks again
Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Saved the Day! It was the sensor engine for me.
Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Hi thank you so much for this post and video. My Vauxhall vivaro van is doing exactly the same thing. Engine light on, fan runs constantly and no temp shown on the instrument panel. I will look for these sensors. I have also read that wiring can be faulty too. Thanks again man.
Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Well explained, I would rather do it myself than sending it to my mechanic.
My Corsa C Gsi is doing the same thing, engine management light on and fan running constantly. Come month end and buy temperature sensor and replace it.
Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
fantastic well explained video. had the same trouble with my corsa. it was a blown 30amp square fuse under the bonnet that controls the engine cooling.
Thanks Robert for the great information👍🏻👍🏻🛠
My fuse box doesn't show which is which....I don't know radiator one
@@siphoernest2278 inside the fuse box there are a few square fuses, its the one that's says 30 amp.
@@Rob-eg8qc I will check..and then get back to you
Like the video! Covers everything. In reply to some earlier comments about O ring seal on sensor. You need one. If the old one sticks inside then you can take the O ring off your new sensor and install it or - better - hook out the old one gently (I have used a paperclip, bent to make a small long handled hook) and keep the new O ring on your replacement.
Question - which OBD reader did you use? I got a cheap one and it doesn't show 'pending' Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). It also is so cheap that Engine Coolant Temperature is one reading though my Astra J has 2 sensors like your Corsa.
Thanks for the great information👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Just had this with my car changed the 2 temperature sensors fan was still on. Then changed the resistor. Fan was still on. Bought a new thermostat comes complete with housing unit £17.89 of eBay stuck that in myself pure easy 3 bolts. Seems to have done the trick. My fans off. Warning light is off car running like a dream. You also have to top up coolant so buy 2-3 litres as you lose almost all of it when changing the thermostat. X
Thanks for sharing, & Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
The best video I have found on this issue, just wish I had found it a week ago! And the one you did about code readers. Can I please ask, does the WIFI code reader display the temperature from the radiator sensor, as well as the one in the engine? I've never used one before and have just got myself a Topdon AL500. In live data, it only shows coolant temp, no mention of rad temp. I'm not sure which sensor is faulty as fan is not on, but I do have the P004B error code.
With the scanner connected and on live data, disconnect one of the sensors, check results, then do the same with the other, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Thank you for your video mate, this fixed the problem. That's a like from me.
Glad it helped Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Hi. Would I be right in thinking that once you have changed the suspected sensor that you have to reset the system (code error) on the obd for the problem to go away? I don't yet have an obd but I've changed the sensors, checked the engine cooling fuses but the fan constantly on and service light being on problems remain. Does it have to be reset before these issues disappear? Thanks.
No the fan issue would be resolved if the sensor was ay fault, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Buy a thermostat had same problem with mine 2 new sensors a new resistor but whole time was the thermostat easy to change urself... £17.89 of eBay for the part... Also buy 2-3 litres of coolant as u lose it all when changing thermostat... Hope this helps worked on my car... X
Could this sensor failing be the cause of my air con not getting cold? Have had re-has but still doesn’t work. If not, are you aware of any common faults on Corsa D with the air con?
Definitely not the engine temperature sensor affecting the air-conditioning system, I would check the fan relay as this sometimes causes a problem, thanks for the great comments 👍🏻👍🏻🛠
aaanton11 thanks for the help! Where is this located on a Corsa D?
Hi just need your advice. I’ve a Vauxhall corsa 1.4 petrol Auto 2017. It does not show temperature at all while I drive but if the engine running at one place it shows temperature then I start driving the temperature digits disappear. Any advise please?
Is the temperature you see the outside air temp and not the engine temp?, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
@@aaanton11 thanks for the comments. It’s engine temperature not showing on the dash when driving
Regards
@@aaanton11 it’s engine coolant temperature
Can you help me fix my problem in aircon is not working but the air always out in the foot and wind shield..I doubt the temp knob is broken inside..can you have a video tutorials
I don't have the corsa anymore, but when I get the chance I will, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Excellent videos, can you help with Corsa D .1.4 petrol. just had new water pump and new thermostat fitted. drove for two days spanner warning light plus temperature light flashing red. on observation expansion tank was empty (no water) heard hissing noise back left of engine? let the car cool down / topped expansion tank back up / run the engine water bubbling over with the cap off fan was running? Any ideas what the issue can be please. Would really appreciate your help Regards Barry.
Sounds like the head gasket might be damaged, what a pain for you, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
aaanton11 just to let you know it wasn’t the head gasket thank god😀 after re pressuring and after some timid looking around it was a small hole in the pipe connecting the pump 😊 good communications keep up the good work. For me you were interesting to listen too not like the other cowboys 👍
Thanks Barry appreciate your support 👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Hey got a diagnostic done at a garage and they told me that it was the thermostat and and lambda sensor. The engine management light was still on when I left so just wondering if I need to get it diagnosed again
You are better off buying the scanner tool yourself, they are not expensive for a engine code reader, £24 on amazon amzn.to/3NeMtCr Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Corsa d running ok but overheating in traffic , no temp indicator and fan didn`t cut in. Have checked fan with 12 volts and runs ok also have car with spanner light on dash. Would like your thoughts.
I would guess the water pump is faulty, there is a known issue with them which slows down circulation, especially on idle, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Hey this is a great video explaining things. I have the exact same issue with my Mokka X I previously changed the thermostat sensor so do you think it’s the radiator sensor that needs changing ?
Possible, worth a try. Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
I’ve been told both the sensors are indeed the same part number ? Is this correct. Did you do a video on replacing the other sensor. Many thanks.
I only replaced this one, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Hi. I have a Corsa D 2011 1.2L 86hp. Recently every now and then it starts very hard with some black smoke and gas odor at the exhaust. I don't have any lights or error on the tester, but i noticed that when the engine is cold, the coolant temp reads -8, and after an 1h trip it reads 18. Outside temp was 20. The engine works fine after warmup. I put the plugs out after i tried to start it and they were black and 3 of them were wet, but this is probably because of the hard start. All of this and no error. The fan starts at high for few seconds when the engine is hot, and that's all. What do you think about this?
replace the coolant temp sensor, it is making the car over fuel, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Has the Corsa d 1.2 2010 got another sensor on the water pump ?
My water pumps hidden with the top plastic cover, I’ve read the other sensor may be on the right side of the engine
there is no sensor on the water pump to my knowledge Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Hi mate. I've currently got this issue and your video has helped me alot. Do you have a link to where you bought this sensor?

Great video Anton. Would love to see how to change the auxiliary belt on this vehicle. Would be great!.
I need to change the water pump soon, so the belt will be coming off 👍🏻 thanks for the great comments 👍🏻🛠
@@aaanton11 hey anton mate you don't have an ETA of when you will be changing the water pump on this car? Mines gone also and good do with a good TH-cam video to help out👍

@@aaanton11 appreciate mate. Got about a week b4 I'll start this job. So if you could would be great but understand you have your own schedule but you would be saving my life lol
In the dash's 'secret' menu my coolant temperature reads perfectly fine (≈30 after startup, slowly goes up to normal running temp) but my fans are still running from start-up. Would replacing the temperature sensor like you did help it at all? I think mine is working fine?
Possible as there are two sensors, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Brilliant. Would I need bleed Coolant system done cold ?
The System will self bleed, you will just need to top up the coolant level, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
@@aaanton11 aha. Thought the same / similar !!!
Hi. I've got the same problem on my Limited Edition but no engine management light showing. I was thinking about buying a code reader but will it still show a fault code if the EML isn't lit up? Thanks!
Many faults don't put on the EML, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
@@aaanton11 Thank you for the reply, much appreciated. I'm going to buy the MOTOPOWER MP69033 OBD2 Scanner based on the similar one you recomended on another reply you made. Found one being sold brand new for £16.20 on ebay! Thanks again Pal.😎👍
Hello Sir! Have this code P00B4 change the coolant radiator switch erase the code EML light still on.. shall just let the switch settle in first?
If the sensor is the issue just replace it and reset the codes, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Did the engine management light come back on for the lean code and manifold pressure ? They usually come up when the rocker covers get blocked
No this was down to the temp sensor issue, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Can you do a video of Corsa 1.2 2010 MAP sensor
I know it’s on the rear inlet manifold but can’t see it anywhere
I will look into it Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
my new sensor didn't come with a retain clip and i lost the original one will it be ok without a retention clip?
It will work loose without a clip on you can normally put a cable tie around the loom and fasten it to the fan housing Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Hiya mate would this fix the problem on my car where it cranks but doesnt turn over first time everytime? Sometimes it just starts first time no problem.
This is most likely to be the issue th-cam.com/video/OxSRJU2E9cA/w-d-xo.html Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Great video, very useful info, cheers
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Hiya mate, currently having this issue with my corsa d vxr, what obd reader did you use? And how much was it?
This is a great reader for £30 amzn.to/3Sjd6Kd Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Changed both sensors fan still running. I noticed that when I unplugged the thermostat housing sensor the fan stopped and then started again after 30 seconds, is it worth me changing the thermostat housing?
Could the engine be running hot, is the thermostat stuck closed, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Hiya.. Just wondering if you could tell me what yo think... So I literally have the exact same issue with my car currently- engine light on and cooling fan constantly running making for a very noisy car! But my question is, I have a 2007 Corsa D 1.6 VXR. So does this make any difference or would the issue still be as you advise on your video? And can the same method be used? TIA
Yes all very similar, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Hi does the rubber black ring need to remain on the sensor? The coolant seems to be leaking from the sensor.
you need a rubber seal, but only one Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Ho Anton, my Astra J is doing the same. Are the coolant sensors for the engine and the radiator the same part?
Yes on most modern cars, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Hello Anton my vauxhall corsa D 1.2 engine cuts off after engine heating up and my Radiator fan doesn't come on. But if I try to disconnect the sensor then fan starts running. I have been to few garages but no help. Is there any advise you would give me. Any possibilities you can fix my car. I'm based in Hounslow. Can't find any good garages around here. One of the garages deleted all my fault codes without fixing it and said my car is reset.
If the fan comes on when you touch the sensor, it must have a poor connection or be faulty, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Hi, Is the sensor compatible with a 61 plate 1.2 (w/ac)..?❔🙂❔To clarify the Fan isn’t running constantly but it comes on as soon as You start the engine and its cold…You can turn the engine of pretty much straight away and the fan stays on for a minute or two then stops…I recently changed the Coolant after the Ex had been basically running it with hardly any coolant and mostly tap water if that helps to know, Cheers..!!!😩🙂
Should be the same Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Hi, I have an astra j 2014. My radiator fan is running on with the full speed occasionally with cold engine. Engine light not on but sometimes coming up ,service soon, message. Could you advise me pl
Most likely, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Peter have you sorted your Astra problem?
are both the sensors the same or is the one that goes into the engine side different?
Different, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
@aaanton11 pulled it out after commenting pal turned out to be the same type. Bought them from euro car parts and problem solved. Thanks for the great video and walkthrough
hi , if the cooling fan is not working all time what is a problem? which fuse can i check ?or what can i do to check ?
the fuse is no8 in the under bonnet fuse box a big 40amp one, worth checking, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
I've got same problem with fan but no fault codes at all... Will it still be the sensor? I've ordered one regardless n will change tomorrow...
Possibly Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
@@aaanton11 it was aswell. Fan turned off the second I changed it, which I knew how to do due to your direction. Thank you.
Just wondering if its the temp sensor on my corsa 2003 .. my car started over heating , then realised when i turned the engine off and walked round to the front of car that the fans were still blowing .. im not very technical so any help would be really appreciated thanks
doubtful, usually one of these faults, The coolant will have leaked out somewhere, causing the engine to overheat, or the thermostat could have ceased restricting the coolant flow, the last, it a known issue that the water pumps can fail, again causing a lack of flow & over heating the engine, all will cause the fans to run more,Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
@@aaanton11 thank you so much for replying , very helpful :)
My cooling fan is running constantly even on a cold start but instead of the engine management light, i get the car spanner/service light and no codes appearing on my obd2 reader. Any ideas ?
possible temperature sensor issue, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Why the symbol yellow car and a spanner remains on then if the fan sorted out?
you might need to reset the eobd, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
I think this is the problem on my Wife's Corsa D 1.4, the fan runs all the time. Only difference is no EML on. I'm going to scan it when I get back to work, but I suspect it's going to be that sensor.
Most likely, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠

@@fazzyth14 kind of, I replaced that sensor, cleared the fault code, but it came back. Replaced the thermostat (which had disintegrated) and its been all good since.

you might need to change both the coolant sensors, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
hello, in my corsa 2013 the electro radiator fan turns on at 108 degrees celcius reaching a maximum of 110 degrees, is that normal in a corsa? What is the normal temperature in these cars?
Thats too high, the fan should kick in at around 95, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
@@aaanton11 my 1.4 SRI 2010 corsa D fan doesn't kick in at 106c, could it be a faulty fan resistor that's bolted to the radiator cowling in the top left?
Hi, I have a Corsa energy 1.2 the temperature light flashes and the service light stays on it turns over but doesn't start any ideas? Thanks
Difficult one to guess without seeing the car, if the engine light was flashing it would be the transponder chip fault, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Did you find out what the problem was my car is doing the same
Does the 1.0 12v have 2 temp sensors
Not sure usually 2 Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
My code reader says no codes found, when I start my Corsa d 1.2 2010, the yellow car symbol shows and fan comes on and stays on, don’t know what the Issue is but this video tells me it may be the sensor
Some code readers won’t pick up all the codes, sounds like the fault Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
I cant find any sensor on my radiator..on 1.4 ..then fan is always running.but no warning light on the dash
Is the air con switched on? Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Hi I have the opposite problem on my 2010 Corsa where the cooling fan doesn’t turn on. I watched another vid on TH-cam which shows how to check if the fan does work and mine does. Any idea what you think it might be?
There’s not much to go wrong, usually it’s the fuse, Relay or motor. Thanks for the great comments 👍🏻🛠
Are both the sensors the same or do they have different part numbers ?
They Arte different part numbers, the radiator one is in the description, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
aaanton11 thank you for your reply, much appreciated. You wouldn’t haven’t to know the part number for the other sensor on the engine ?
Hi Anton, i had code P0019 ECT Temp Sensor Intermittent and no indication on dash of temp. Changed the ECT on engine and now have P0118 (ECT Sensor 1 High Circuit), still no temp indication and now fan is running all the time. All this 3 days after i replaced the flat battery. Any ideas?
Edit - just been out again and radiator fan isn't on now. Still no temp indication. (Corsa E 1.2 petrol 2015)
Is there a possibility you have the wrong sensor, there are two on this model, or the parts supplier gave you the wrong part, if you disconnect the sensor and clear the eobd codes, check again if the code is different the wiring should be ok and the sensor could be faulty, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
aaanton11 just been out to have another look. Sat at idle for 5 mins and then temp indicted on the dash. I plugged in my obd reader and t said temp was 42, which as it was cold was fine. So, took it for a drive and temp increased to 4 bars and on returning I plugged in the OBD reader to check temp and it said 92 which was correct according to dash indication. I gave supplier the VIN ad a photo of location of sensor to ensure they supplied the correct one.
So the sensor seems to be working ok, there is a known fault on the corsa combined instrument panel connector plug, the connector behind the panel can develop a poor connection, by disconnecting and reconnecting it might sort the issue they are a bit tricky to get to, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Coolant temperature changed and light stays on and fan runs all the time does that mean it’s the second radiator sensor ?
could be the other sensor you need to check the eobd codes to see the faults, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠
aaanton11 thanks is this the corsa in the video a 1.2 petrol that’s what mine is and yes I’m getting the other one changed
