The reason she stopped when she saw herself in the mirror was because of shock. She was aiming for specific target and ended up seeing herself and it confused her. She ran away but it kept coming up and THAT'S what gave Twilight the opening. Plus her ablity being able to abosorb isn't 100% correct especially when you see it causing different effects. Hypnotising, fear, and even once confusion! It may be SOME sucking effect but for that to be the WHOLE effect doesn't add up properly.

Either Twilight didn't take into account that the desire of the fruitbats had to go somewhere, or the spell simply acts different when it has multiple targets/someone interacts with the targets.
