I do mine the same way Martin, with a slight variation. I extend the hose so I can see it from my 'fill' position. It fills into a larger 5 gallon semi see thru bucket that I've put 1 quart lines, that way you can keep the motor running and top off as needed. The hose is mounted so that when the clean, clearish fluid comes thru, I see it, run it for another quart and done. This is the best way to flush the tranny, glad you're on your game there buddy.
i added a Subaru spin on trans filter to my aw4 but so far not done the service and change out the fluid. it shifts and works fine, but gotta keep up on it. thanks for your videos Martin and for taking the time to document and share your repairs and modifications. you do above average work. well done
@martinbuilt. Hy Martin, I have a 1993 Jeep Cherokee Country. Although I bought it through a guy who goes out to Colorado Springs, Colorado 2-3 times per year, buys Jeeps, then brings them back here to Michigan, it was owned by the same family since it was new. The original owner did put a 3'' lift on it but different topic for another day. I'm focusing now on the transmission. The original owner rebuilt the engine completely, the trans I'm not sure about but although the fluid is fresh, I wanted to make sure that the proper fluid is in the trans. So I'll be doing a flush the same as you show in the video. So my questions are that was the total fluid used (12-13 quarts) & 2nd, I've got the shift-points to around 1,900-2,000 rpm's for 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th, where it shifts at around 1,700-1,800 rpms into OD. With the 245/75/R16 tires, could that be the reason the shift-points were off? It was winding out to around 2,200 rpm's before it would shift. But an adjustment on the cable under the hood made the shifting a lot better.... ***So would 1,900-2,000 RPM shift point sound correct for a 93 with the AW-4 auto trans.*** **Note: driving normal & not winding out each gear.** I'm getting ready to do a tuneup on it & thought maybe I'll just go ahead & get a Throttle Position Sensor while I'm at it. Since I was told that it could be the other reason for the shift-points being higher. I know these tires probably don't help but I'll leave them on till I get a new set for the OEM Rims. lol that way my wife can get in & out to drive it... Great video btw, I did subscribe & gave the video a thumbs up.. Thanks, MD....
taller tires are putting more stress on the engine and trans witch could change the shift points and cause it to downshift and upshift a lot (hunting for a gear). I don't recall the RPM mine shifts at, I would need to take it for a drive. Thank you for subscribing, I really appreciate that!
@@martinbuilt Martin, a couple of the pickup's I bought in the past 30-35 years came with factory lifts but yeah it was me who bought the oversize tires for them. Although I do like the height of my Cherokee today and even if I decide to stay with the 16'' tires, I can see now that what I do not need is such an aggressive tire & tread design. Thanks for point that out to me. I already need to look at the steering & suspension because some of the OEM parts should have been replaced with the 3'' lift. The previous owner didn't do the job 100% correctly. I just got so lost with the fact that this Jeep will be 30 years old in 2 1/2 years & looks really good that I let something I have already dealt with in the past, cloud my judgement.. Perhaps I should just clean up the OEM Rims & look for good riding tires. Since I already own the 15'' to 16'' style rims & tires doesn't automatically mean I have to be running them. I need to rethink tires.. Thanks again Martin. I should just pop off these tires & put the original OEM size set & see what the difference is... Thanks again Martin.... Have a great day my friend. I was gifted a Jeep Grand Cherokee, has pretty high miles 150k, the person who owned it never really took care of it. So, was wondering if I should flush the system as it struggles a little bit from first to second.
Looks Like a really nice build. Let's see how you did those gauges! They look reallly impressive and I haven't really seen any A-pillar gauges in an XJ
If no drain plug then either by using a 12 volt pup of a hand suction pum, pump out a couple of litres or is possible as much fluid as possible to make the process a lot cleaner. What I did was purchased a O2 sensor plug and bung and welding that in place to make the process so much easier.
Martin great video! Any chance of you doing a video on your gauges that you have on the A-pillar? Also do you have a build thread on any of the forums? Keep up the great work man.
Great video! Just wondering with this Wix kit do you need to use a rtd sealant on the pan as well as the gasket or just the gasket? Also do you reuse any of those factory filter gaskets when installing the new wix filter or does that one have the necessary gaskets already on it?
just bought a 01 XJ with 170k. previous owner put ATF3 in it. failed rear seal on tranny. not slipping as far as i can tell. any recommendations on course of action would be entertained. definitely want to flush it, think there's any deeper damage?
I see this is an old video, but curious, did you have any transmission issues after a flush? I've heard this is a bad idea on high mileage transmissions because of band wear and lack of material in the fluid that keep it from slipping. I guess it would depend on how often you changed the fluid.
No, I haven't had any issues with the trans. I have probably put on 40 to 50,000 miles since I flushed it. I believe the people that are having issues with the flush are only because they were having transmission problems and thought by flushing the trans would fix the problem.
excellent video! do you check the transmission level in park or neutral. i see different answers everywhere i go. should i apply the brake and shift through all the gears before checking the fluid level?
I'm still trying to figure out which one is the return line on my 99 XJ. One of the lines is mounted lower on the trans and I'm wondering which one is which. I'm thinking I would need about 12-16 quarts at $8.00 a quart.....can be pricey but preventative maintenance the right way is fine as long as it works well. Wondering if the semi synthetic fluid will cause any of my old seals to leak?

I have Jeep grandcherokee 1997 and the auto transmission sometimes doesn't work at all, could it be malfunctioned and not fixable? This happens after 2 gear transmission usually.
I have the 45RFE transmission in my 99 Grand cherokee, I changed the fluid and both filters the other day, afterwards when i was about to go for a test drive the chek engine light came on and the transmission slams quite roughly into revesre and drive gear, and when to take off in drive i have to go up to 2000rpm before the car slowly is floating foward, I scanned it and received faulty code P1784,
I'm confused my 99 xj ask for atf4 is a wisin aisin 4 speed 2wd is this normally or I'm been using the wrong fluid for 11 years is still running 250,000 miles later 🤔
I know it doesn't hurt the oil lines since the pump's sucking clean fluid from the sump and before it comes back, you collect it in the milk container.. but wouldn't it be better to do that flush with the old fluid, before changing the filter, to save that precious new fluid?
You can do it either way. The fluid your getting out of the trans. line is coming from the torque convertor. The fresh fluid you put in the pan is being draw up into the trans. and have to go through everything before heading to the cooler.
Loved the video. Question..I have 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0L 6 cylinder. Its throwing P0161 and P0740. It won't start now. Any advice on what I should do first?. I have the transmission fluid and filter. Was just gonna drain, clean, then swap filter and hope for the best
...going to get bank 2 sensor 2 and TCC solenoid but dont know which solenoid needs to be replaced. The solenoids are located around the filter, right? Any advice would help man. Thanks in advance.
I believe I had the same code show up a fer years back and it turned out that the throttle position sensor was at fault. Mine was kicking in and out of overdrive or should I say the torque converter was locking up and then unlocking constantly while driving down the road.
@@arciusvalen4675 that does not sound good! If it was me cuz that sounds like a transmission on its way out. I would go down to your local Pick-A-Part or pick a pull and start looking for another transmission. They sell transmissions for $160 plus I think a $25 core charge.. should you choose to go to a Pick-A-Part I would look for a jeep that obviously had engine problems or was in a severe accident in either case you'll know that the transmission was working at the time.
Negative factory cross member comes to the back of the pan. It it’s covering the pan then it’s an aftermarket. His is a long arm crossmember and definitely not stock
Prepping2endurE I don't know exactly what brand those are I think I paid about $17 a piece for them at the time. I did look them up on eBay they look exactly like the Hot system gauges for $15.00 The gauge pods I could not find it all on eBay. There are similar ones for around $10 a piece.
Damn it I just bought ATF4 for my change. My transmission has been slipping when I come to a start. It will lag for a second then go eventually. Was going to drain fluid, change filter add three quarts atf4 valve line full synthetic and some Lucas stop slip.
I can't remember. I had them for at least a year before I got around to installing them. The gauges were separate from the gauge pods. I believe then were from eBay if I had to guess. I do remember the gauges were around 17.00 each. The only thing I don't like about them is at night they will not dim. So the blue light can be a little bright at night. I was thinking of putting a layer of tint on them to help with that.
Martin, I have an '01 Cherokee with 156k miles on it, and have realized that I have no record of the transmission fluid ever being changed. After checking the fluid, it is brown but not burnt. Could changing it for the first time at such high mileage kill my transmission?
Imo... No if you do what I did in the video. Change the filter and replace the fluid. Then do a flush. I think the people that have had problems in doing a flush they didn't change filter or clean the trans pan. That or they had some symptoms that the trans was not operating properly they do a flush and the trans fails soon after and blame it on the new fluid, when in fact the trans was on it's way out anyway.
Why do you like the lucas synthetic. Is it okay to mix dextron 3 with synthetic? Essentially thats whay you have done. Each time you added fluid and drained a partial amount and added again you diluted the old fluid.
Martin, thanks for doing this video. reminds me of when I changed my filter and fluid years ago. my 1999 Cherokee Classic had a dipstick tube connected all the way down to the pan so I had an issue when I dropped the pan but I worked around that. I didn't do a flush. I just changed the fluid. I still don't understand how you are flushing. what are you connecting the tube to that you have flowing into the gallon jug? that's where I'm lost. I didn't get where it's coming out of the transmission on your flush. thank you
I sprayed PB Blaster on the upper part of the dipstick tube and let it run down onto the junction. I did this a few times over a few days and it really made it easy to drop the pan.
Hola saludos, tengo una choroke 87,automática, tengo un problema q aún no e podido resolver , la guagua tuve q reparar la transmicion porq no quería dar los cambios y no arrancaba en drive NY daba los cambios , después de repara hace el mismo problema ,
Hope you dont mind me asking, but what are/where would you get those monitors you have along the side of your windshield. I feel like that would be pretty handy to have on my XJ.
if you're referring to the gauges I have to look into where I got those I remember them being very inexpensive at $18 apiece. The only thing I don't like about them they do not dim when you turn on your headlights so they're so bright at night
Hi Martin. Is it OK to drive in OD in the city. I'm getting some light slipping and hard shifting once in awhile, Most when Trans is cold. What Trans is in a 2000 Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0 wj?✌
so I have a 2001 grand cherokee 123,000 miles never changed before. but getting a code for govenor pressure sensor and selenoid. im told not to change oil . but thats code. also jeep wasnt turning on well if at a light would shut off. thought it was cps but im getting gas it turns on then dies. please help. im going to try on my own $$ is tight
The reason I do it that way is that I feel if you did the flush first you're going to stir up a lot of the black residue from the worn clutches and other contaminants that are on the bottom of the trans pan.
i have a 97 xj with roughcountry long arms and i dont think i can take the pan off with the cross member on, i got the front dl off though np with a cheap 8 mill sockets thats very short so it fits and 1/4 rachet
I have a '96 now with 130K miles and about to do the trans filter for the 3rd time. I had to remove the cross member to drop the pan down and IIRC, COULDN'T get the pan fully dropped because of the dip stick tube. Maybe I just didn't wiggle it enough but I remember back that I had to work around the pan not being able to drop full down.
Q? Did a oil change on my 2000 jeep gcl. 4.0 il6. Put in recommend, think 6 qts? But dipstick reads way over the max line? Now i get leaks from rear main seal and oil smell burning? Any suggestions??
Do not overfill this will cause foaming inside the trans. You"ll need to drain some off. You could disconnect the trans line as shown in the video and drain it into a container.
@@martinbuilt . I took it to AAMCO, said I need to rebuild. $2200. It's been slipping, more so when cold on acceleration. I put some Lucas stop slip and seems to be working but still get a bit of a hard shift.
Best advice use a 5 gallon bucket and have your friend feed transmission fluid into the transmission while u hold the return line in tha bucket why hold it so it don't go spraying everywhere
+martinbuilt just so you know, you have the Toyota AW4 trans. Common in jeeps, tundras (early model) and others like lexus. I've rebuilt quite a few of these and they are interesting to work on. One of the things you should always check if your changing the filters are the solenoids. there should be three and sometimes they get hot and need replacing. When that happens the solenoids cases will become discolored and get dark. Thought you should know. :)
+purplexenno would you happen to know how many selinoids are in xj or a link were I might find them. plus the code P0740 made my check engine come on. every time I check the Trans fluid there's little metal in the dip stick.
So I followed what the video said and found that after pouring two gallons of a tf it seemed to suck it all up since the dip stick won't show any signs of it. Exactly how many gallons are needed?
+Meta Mein I am not following. If you poured 2 gallons in at one time it will suck all of it up on the flush. Did you replace a gallon after you drained a gallon?
+martinbuilt sorry, I wrote it in a hurry. What I meant to say was that I followed just as you did by putting in the first gallon of new atf, flushing out a gallon of the old stuff and repeating a second time. But for some reason the dipstick comes out dry. I was wondering if I seriously messed up the process
Randy Anderson I personally have never had that problem unless you put the incorrect transmission fluid in. This happened to me like 25 years ago probably more than that with a Ford that I change the transmission fluid and put the incorrect fluid in. I flush the fluid back out, put the right fluid in everything was good. Now that being said if other people are having that problem and they did everything correctly the correct fluid and so on. I kind of wonder if the transmission that they change their fluid on wasn't already experiencing problems. Most likely it was already on its way out. Another thing I like to do when doing a flush on a vehicle that's never had one done before is change the transmission fluid and filter first and even drive it for a little while if you like. Then do a flush. The reason is I do it this way I want the bottom of the pan to be nice and clean before I do a flush. My theory is if you do a flush without cleaning the pan you are stirring contaminants that are on the bottom of the pan up and getting them into the transmission and causing problems.
If your tranny slips after a fluid change, it was junk before you started. Brown fluid is from burnt clutch material, essentially adding it's own friction modifier in sense and that's why you didn't notice a performance issue. New fluid will be clean and that's why you notice slipping
You could, the only thing I don't like about that is you may stir things up from the bottom of the dirty pan and possibly lift it into valve body and the rest of the trans.
Yeah I had a heck of a time as well I don't have any real tips I unbolted the dipstick tube did a lot of twisting and pulling on the dipstick tube and it finally gave up.
Good afternoon, I take my Jeep to the mechanic to change the gearbox oil, as I was running out of car my means of transportation would be a bike that I have the next day to leave the jeep started to rain and I went back to the workshop to leave bike and get my Jeep, as they have not yet played for maintenance, he no longer took the battery died, touched a cable to put the car to work and so far so well, but when I go to walk the march stopped gear the march in D 1 or 2, only gears march back, put a new battery, changed the oil of the gearbox and put the level, made the diagnosis of errors by the car's ignition and appeared P0118 error, which is the car temperature sensor, do not know whether to be damaged the sensor puts the car in safe mode, so as not to spoil the box, because if so the car would not start to not overheat the engine, does anyone have any idea what You may come to be? He sometimes dragged a bit to start, to get to 3, then the behavior was normal, but this was a very sporadic situation, then I think to be oil, have the Jeep for about a year and cash problems just even this I put you here, and is no longer small, I look forward to some opinions, I do not believe it is this temperature sensor, thank you, ...
If you start watching at 7:20 you will see them. 2 are next to each other and the 3rd one is toward the rear. I have also included this link that points out the location and what each one is for. Scroll down and you will see the picture. www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/shift-solenoid-199137/
They are from a 86 Chrysler LeBaron Turbo they will also come from a New Yorker Turbo. There were a few years in that era that will work. Getting very hard to find them anymore. I'm always checking Pick-A-Part every time I go there and it's been at least a couple years since I've seen a set.
Someone reused an empty coolant jug to refill their trans from the dipstick and i noticed a very tiny amount of coolant was present and was introduced into the system. How much should one worry about as far as coolant in with the trans fluid? It's a 93 ZJ with 200k. Is there an additive to help or just flushing going to work?
Just did mine, followed this vid, couldn't have done it without this, cheers man. I made a WAY bigger mess though!

Was it making a grinding or loud vibration sound when gears are switching? What do you think I should do first?
@@arciusvalen4675 that does not sound good! If it was me cuz that sounds like a transmission on its way out. I would go down to your local Pick-A-Part or pick a pull and start looking for another transmission. They sell transmissions for $160 plus I think a $25 core charge.. should you choose to go to a Pick-A-Part I would look for a jeep that obviously had engine problems or was in a severe accident in either case you'll know that the transmission was working at the time.
Thanks man. All of your feedback was very helpful. Enjoy the rest of your holiday brother. Thanks again!
Would of been nice if you included band adjustment...
2:23 I have a cross member on mine in that exact same spot and I'm pretty sure it's not an aftermarket one.
Negative factory cross member comes to the back of the pan. It it’s covering the pan then it’s an aftermarket. His is a long arm crossmember and definitely not stock
Thank you sir
to do this flush, you start with the transmission level in park or neutral?
Park..thank you for watching
what brand of gauges did you use? also could you do a video on the mounting system for them.. Great Video very informative
Prepping2endurE I don't know exactly what brand those are I think I paid about $17 a piece for them at the time. I did look them up on eBay they look exactly like the Hot system gauges for $15.00
The gauge pods I could not find it all on eBay. There are similar ones for around $10 a piece.
Hi Martin. Can I repeat this procedure with 45RFE WJ 4.7 PT ?
Damn it I just bought ATF4 for my change. My transmission has been slipping when I come to a start. It will lag for a second then go eventually. Was going to drain fluid, change filter add three quarts atf4 valve line full synthetic and some Lucas stop slip.
When I come to a stop*
+TheBestOutcj I've got the same issue. did your method work?
Thanks for the video! Just out of curiosity where did you get you auxiliary gauges from?
I can't remember. I had them for at least a year before I got around to installing them. The gauges were separate from the gauge pods. I believe then were from eBay if I had to guess. I do remember the gauges were around 17.00 each. The only thing I don't like about them is at night they will not dim. So the blue light can be a little bright at night. I was thinking of putting a layer of tint on them to help with that.
What kinda wheels and size tires you running ? THEY LOOK SOO SICK!
Thank you! There Level 8 Pro Trackers. Here's a video i did on them. th-cam.com/video/3WvUNQqo-1U/w-d-xo.html
Thanks Martin!
Why do you like the lucas synthetic.
Is it okay to mix dextron 3 with synthetic?
Essentially thats whay you have done. Each time you added fluid and drained a partial amount and added again you diluted the old fluid.
it is a semi-synthetic and I did a complete flush, all the old fluid is gone.
I didn't get where it's coming out of the transmission on your flush.
thank you
He used the return line from the transmission cooler. He ran the line down to the jug instead of back to the transmission while doing the flush.
How did you un-stick the dipstick tube?
They can be a pain they just push together and pull apart. The upper half of the tube pulls out from the bottom half that attaches to the pan
@@beersngearz781 Great, didn't know that.
I sprayed PB Blaster on the upper part of the dipstick tube and let it run down onto the junction. I did this a few times over a few days and it really made it easy to drop the pan.
Excelent
Thank you, glad you liked it.🙂
Hola saludos, tengo una choroke 87,automática, tengo un problema q aún no e podido resolver , la guagua tuve q reparar la transmicion porq no quería dar los cambios y no arrancaba en drive NY daba los cambios , después de repara hace el mismo problema ,
I don't understand what the problem is.
Drill a hole, let it drain, install a pan with a drain bolt. ? But then what about the dipstick elbow, how to get it in the new pan ?
Yes drill a hole in the pan and then install this drain plug kit. amzn.to/2Uq2sFV
@@martinbuilt 👍👍👍
Do you recommend use DEXRON VI instead of DEXRON III?
Hugo Leonardo
I would only use Dexron lll . Dexron Vl is designed for 2006 and newer GM vehicles.
i have 2014 jeep grand how much trans mission oil in the pan it take like 16 quats and whats the thing way of doing this,,i like ur video by the way
Yes you probably looking at 14 to 16 quarts if you did a complete flush for just replacing fluid in the pan probably around six quarts.
@@martinbuilt i havent yet. few mech told me not to flush ,confuess
How many miles was on the fluid? Since the last change if any? Thanks
I'm not for certain but I would say somewhere around 30,000
Hi Martin. Is it OK to drive in OD in the city. I'm getting some light slipping and hard shifting once in awhile, Most when Trans is cold. What Trans is in a 2000 Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0 wj?✌
Yeah it's OK to drive and overdrive in the city. You have the you have the 42RE transmission.
@@martinbuilt .
Japanese or American trans?
so I have a 2001 grand cherokee 123,000 miles never changed before. but getting a code for govenor pressure sensor and selenoid. im told not to change oil . but thats code. also jeep wasnt turning on well if at a light would shut off. thought it was cps but im getting gas it turns on then dies. please help. im going to try on my own $$ is tight
Why flush after you changed the filter? Shouldn't you flush then change the filter and refill?
The reason I do it that way is that I feel if you did the flush first you're going to stir up a lot of the black residue from the worn clutches and other contaminants that are on the bottom of the trans pan.
how did you get the pan down after getting the bolts off?
i have a 97 xj with roughcountry long arms and i dont think i can take the pan off with the cross member on, i got the front dl off though np with a cheap 8 mill sockets thats very short so it fits and 1/4 rachet
I put some Lucas stop slip and seems to be working but still get a bit of a hard shift.
tank u
UR welcome
Best advice use a 5 gallon bucket and have your friend feed transmission fluid into the transmission while u hold the return line in tha bucket why hold it so it don't go spraying everywhere
If anyone thst knows sees this video recently, how long should I have the engine off before doing the flush?
I bought that same filter and they sent me a cork gasket with it...cheap you know whats
Martin I have a
2000 XJ sport
would it be the same Lucas product on mine?
I'm doing mine this weekend.
I would think it would be the same but I would check your owners manual.
+martinbuilt
just so you know, you have the Toyota AW4 trans. :)
+purplexenno
Thanks for letting me know. That's good information. Next time I do I filter change I'll check them out
+purplexenno
would you happen to know how many selinoids are in xj or a link were I might find them. plus the code P0740 made my check engine come on. every time I check the Trans fluid there's little metal in the dip stick.
Great video ,what kind of lift?
castaneda island 6.5 inch lift by rough country
do you put the same fluid u put in the milk jug back into the jeep?
The milk jug fluid is your waste fluid (old fluid), each time you fill the milk jug add 4 more quarts new fluid,
So I followed what the video said and found that after pouring two gallons of a tf it seemed to suck it all up since the dip stick won't show any signs of it. Exactly how many gallons are needed?
+Meta Mein
I am not following.
+Meta Mein no I don't think you messed up you just need to add more. one quart can make a huge difference on the dipstick in an automatic transmission
Whats the scoop on changing trany fluid, heard that it can make the transmission slip.
@@grimmythereaper80
So if my fluid is not nice and red but a brown color I shouldn't flush?
Thanks inadvance.
I gotta do this one too, where can i find that tube that you disconnect to flushed all the dirty fluid?
The transmission line furthest to the front of the transmission is the outlet and the rearward transmission line is the return or Inlet
Martin would it be better to the flush before?
You could, the only thing I don't like about that is you may stir things up from the bottom of the dirty pan and possibly lift it into valve body and the rest of the trans.
No information on torque specs or bolt tightening sequence. In oposition Some simple steps like refilling with fluid were lengthily covered..
Any tips on how to get the dipstick tube to separate?
Yeah I had a heck of a time as well I don't have any real tips I unbolted the dipstick tube did a lot of twisting and pulling on the dipstick tube and it finally gave up.
@@martinbuilt I'll give it a try! Thanks for the video
Did you use a rubber gasket?
yes I did
Good afternoon, I take my Jeep to the mechanic to change the gearbox oil, as I was running out of car my means of transportation would be a bike that I have the next day to leave the jeep started to rain and I went back to the workshop to leave bike and get my Jeep, as they have not yet played for maintenance, he no longer took the battery died, touched a cable to put the car to work and so far so well, but when I go to walk the march stopped gear the march in D 1 or 2, only gears march back, put a new battery, changed the oil of the gearbox and put the level, made the diagnosis of errors by the car's ignition and appeared P0118 error, which is the car temperature sensor, do not know whether to be damaged the sensor puts the car in safe mode, so as not to spoil the box, because if so the car would not start to not overheat the engine, does anyone have any idea what You may come to be? He sometimes dragged a bit to start, to get to 3, then the behavior was normal, but this was a very sporadic situation, then I think to be oil, have the Jeep for about a year and cash problems just even this I put you here, and is no longer small, I look forward to some opinions, I do not believe it is this temperature sensor, thank you, ...
hey martin can you point out the soleniods next time, PLease!
If you start watching at 7:20 you will see them. 2 are next to each other and the 3rd one is toward the rear. I have also included this link that points out the location and what each one is for. Scroll down and you will see the picture. www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/shift-solenoid-199137/
I am totally confused everything online says ATF 4 but he says its does not take ATF only dexron 3
That's right Dexron 3, what Jeep do you have?
Martin thanks for the video , but I have a doubt. In the flush procedure , I leave the transmission on N or P ?
I don't quite understand what you disagree with. I also leave the transmission in neutral or Park.
hey martin which one is the tcc solenoid and so on the transmission?
Magic there’s a picture on the forums somewhere if u google it, the one at the front of the car is the tcc solenoid
What was the torque specs for the transmission pan bolts?
53-70 in.Ibs.
@@martinbuilt I dont have a torque wrench, would it cause any serious damage if I tried to tighten them without the bolts being to spec
@@darrenvogel8096 no, I don't use a torque wrench either, just remember 70 in-lbs is not much, just don't overtighten.
I like your hood louvre where did you get them
They are from a 86 Chrysler LeBaron Turbo they will also come from a New Yorker Turbo. There were a few years in that era that will work. Getting very hard to find them anymore. I'm always checking Pick-A-Part every time I go there and it's been at least a couple years since I've seen a set.
Martin how did you detach that dip stick tube out?
they can be kind of a pain in the butt that's for sure. it was a combination of twisting and pulling and it finally gave up.
I didn't try the twisting thx man.
Where did you put the temperature sensor to get the temperature of transmission?
Hugo Leonardo I have an additional 1 quarts spin on oil filter mounted below the radiator and in that oil filter adapter is the temperature sensor
Could you send a picture?
In this video there is a good look at that filter. th-cam.com/video/WD1TVCvXiJo/w-d-xo.html
What is the torque specs on transmission pan?
torqued to 65 in. lbs. (5.4 ft. lbs.) and the drain plug is 15 ft. lbs.
@@martinbuilt Thanks.👍 I'll subscribe to your Channel.
What yr Jeep xj are you working on? Do you know if the 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport has a Japanese Transmission.
