    Great door, the reason storm shelter doors swing in is so that the door can be opened if any debris blocks the door during the storm

    Good job, teaching them young men about working and how to use tools. I have had a old tank like this , 8’ x 20’ for about 20 years , need to have a LEL done to it before I cut my door. Not ready to meet my maker. Only problem here is we have high water intrusion rate . I have a 17’ difference in landscape in 801’. I do plan to dig a pond though. Great video.

      Got to look into where to find and how much. Would have to be in the woods to keep it cool and hidden. I think where I live would frown on such a shelter. Definitely would have to be an off-grid project.

    • @McGieHomesteadAdventures

      It is definitely possible that a tree could fall there. But the way it is built is not like the ones that open outward needing to be lifted up. The trunk of the tree would have to be jammed tight against it. And it’s possible they may want to keep a chainsaw in there for just such an occasion.

  • @redlocke8548

    Friend from New Zealand huh, wonder who that was 😂 I'd be careful, they're upside down so that's a pretty funny country down there. I think tornadoes is about the rarest thing we get, apparently according to a geologist friend, who made a TH-cam short about it, we get everything else that people are supposed to be worried about in New Zealand except explosive mud volcanoes (we only have one mud volcano in Gisborne, lots of boiling mud pools up north but they're different from a actual mud volcano) and permafrost slump 😂 volcanic eruptions, lahars, earthquakes, flooding, hurricanes, you name it we pretty much got it 😆 great video, nice solution for the door fix btw🥝🙋

    Hi brother, Micah , Jeff Barry from Lebanon, PA or Hershey we’re right next to each other you know I was thinking a wood door for a tornado shelter. I don’t know how that would work I mean I’m not done watching the video yet. I still have like five minutes to go, but I thought, steel and wood I don’t know, I hope it’s sturdy in a tornado and keep the people safe the video and the door looks great. I would’ve did the whole inside with two by sixes all the way up through and then put the crossmember.

    • @McGieHomesteadAdventures

      It’s possible that it’s inadequate, but highly unlikely. The way we bolted it through the steel will hold in a tornado quite well, although I hope for everyone involved that it never happens!

      @@McGieHomesteadAdventures brother, Micah I agree with you 100%. I pray that shelter is never used unless you park a tractor or something in it cause I wouldn’t want to see your friends getting hurt and I wouldn’t want to see you getting hurt because God loves you, and so do I.

    • @McGieHomesteadAdventures

      That became an issue because the commercial storm shelters had a door on top that had to be pushed up and out…. And the odds are so high that a tree would land on it. Not the same with upright applications.

  • @woodboogerfarm

    just an idea...should the door not swing in ....in case something lands in front of the door and wont allow it to open

    • @McGieHomesteadAdventures

      That’s a good point! That never was popular until the storm shelters started being built that had the door laying down and in order to get out they had to push up. These upright models have a much lower chance of getting blocked……. Still the chance is there. Guess I’ll be checking on these folks after every storm!!🫢
