I heard a specialist, based on years of experience, say whether it is a knockdown, is up to the judges. Sometimes it counts, sometimes it is not. 😂
It's really straightforward, and you don't need to dive into the details to determine the outcome of this fight. Superlek scored a knockdown in round 2 (regardless of personal opinions on whether it was a legitimate knockdown or not, it was officially scored as one), which automatically makes it a 10-8 round in his favor. Even if Rodtang had won round 1 and 3 (he only won round 1), the overall point score would come out as 28-28. However, since ONE Championship does not score draws, they automatically consider who came closer to finishing the fight. In this case, they look at the knockdowns scored, and Rodtang had none while Superlek had one. This leaves Superlek as the winner.
Additionally, if you check the scoring cards, you'll see that Superlek won round 2 with a score of 10-8 and round 3 with a score of 10-9. This aligns with ONE's judging criteria. It's not a robbery, and anyone claiming it is should take the time to understand how ONE Championship scores fights.
Я считая, что им должны были дать однозначно ничью. Им надо обязательно сразиться еще раз, только в 5 раундном бою, иначе мы снова не увидем победителя. Они оба очень сильные, техничные, опытные бойца, поэтому для них 3 раунда очень мало.

Надо было просто судьям, никому не отдавать победу, раз это было так не однозначно. Лучше бы была ничья
For me Rodtang won. Superlek had 3 cuts on his head (I know this is no reason to loose the fight) and had been exhausted, holding on for survival - I never saw Superlek like this (3rd round). I also like both fighters, follow them long time - they are very different in fight style and the world elite. Anyway we will have a re-fight soon and then 5 round and for the title - can't wait for this to happen. Superlek has to train on his endurance for sure.

Highest scoring is damage which went to rodtang, superlek started strong but faded. RODTANG stole the 1st round
It's not just the blood in round one, but the sweep as well. Also, if you watch the long 4 hour video, at 4:14:11 it shows that the elbow only glances and Rodtang actually rolled his ankle and fell. His ankle is bent at 90 degrees. Rodtang won this fight.

Yes I saw that too and Rodtang who is such a honest guy said in the interview it has not been a knockdown he explaine, what we all can see from the other cameras - he just rolled his angle and fell sidewards into the ropes got an additional knee during he fell. Why should Rodtang lie after all Superlek is one of his friends, therefore I believe him. There is also a vide by 'Miky Mouse' aka DJ - just google, can't share links here - and DJ had been shocked by the decision.
Hmm... Rodtang is the one pushing the aggression, but Superlek is the one controlling the fight. Part of Muay Thai scoring is seeing how the fighters use their offensive/defensive skills, and Superlek is proficient in nullifying Rodtang's momentum. Not only that, he is also initiating a lot of attacks. His strikes, in my opinion, are more significant. Even without the 'knockdown', which I also agree it is not, Superlek was probably leading on the scorecards.

I think it comes down to how you score round one. I’m not sure how the fights are scored. Does the cut supersede the rest of the shots from super. Idk

No absolutelly not it does not superceed the Superlek shots.
Though not considered in the scoring, Superlek is noticeably bigger and uses it to his advantage. Superlek's kick volume was greater than Rodtang's adding to.his score. They're easy to dismiss because Rodtang was so impervious to them. It's only after a few viewings of the fight you notice the disparity. In closing what is most clear to me , if the fight had gone 5 rounds Superlek would of been toast
you should know that the judges scored the 3rd round in favor of superlek (unanimous) so whether the 2nd had a knockdown or not, superlek wins rounds 2 and 3 and he still wins
This fight really took it to the extreme - there are many who say Superlek won and even more so there are many who are in favor of Rodtang. Whatever the fight is done - and there will be a rematch soon - 5 rounds for the title. For me it had been 1 round Rodtang - 2nd round Superlek - 3rd round Rodtang and the knockdown had not been a real knockdown. But we no need to discuss t his agin as it had been discussed all over the internet already.

i'm not a nerd but i do muay thai and i can see why superlek won in points.... although in spirit i would see why rodtang gets the W. there's no debating here that superlek won in points. he just kicked so much more, nullified rodtang's advances.... it's just that rodtang came out unscathed even with the fewer hits that he made that i feel he won in spirit, because superlek absorbed much more damage

does this guy not know that being dominant in the clinch is key. elbows don't score high. knees score big. bigger then elbows, punches and kicks. so if you do it buy the book it was a clear win for superlek
Superlek tried to initiate the clinch a lot more during round 3 in which rodtang got 2 dumps.
Superlek’s clinch domination = debatable. Now knees not landed on the clinch, superlek clears.

So what you’re saying is at ONE, if a fighter gets clinch control for 3 mins total out of 3 rounds (6 total minutes), but at the same time takes significant damages (bruised leg, bloody face), he still wins despite the damages? How much do damages play a role here? Genuinely curious
I agree. Superlek is mostly dominant in the clinch. Rodtang had difficulties getting out of it or answering the knee strikes.

"In the event that both fighters are scoring equally on all other aspects, Muay Thai judges would then look at the amount damage inflicted to determine the fighter who had been truly effective. Some clear signs of significant damage are opened cuts on the face or head, heavy bruising on target areas like the torso or thighs, or fatigue. However, it is important to note that this particular aspect would only be considered if the fight is extremely close. There have been many cases where significantly damaged fighters have rallied back to win a fight where the opponent was not as battered as them"

@@PaintedPapi ok I'm going by traditional Thai scoring. So if it's scored in the old skool way it's not scored by counting strikes round by round. In Muay Thai each exchange is scored rather then single blows. And also it's scored like a race, so the elbow in the first round is redundant after the knock down in the second and the dominant clinch and knees by superlek in the 3rd. Superlek is a more technical and clever fighter where as rodtang is tough and hits hard. Rodtang did get two dump's ( only one being good ). But overall he was weak in the clinch. And further more Thai scoring isn't just based on strikes. It's also based on things like balance, showing the judges that your technique is superior to your opponents. So for example, rodtang caught one of superleks kicks. What rodtang then did was try to follow up, either on a strike or sweeping the leg ect. What happened was rodtang tried to punish superlek but he couldn't. What this means is in that exchange superleks skill was superior to rodtang. And superlek was only defending after rodtang caught his leg. Rods strikes didn't work and he couldn't take him down, meaning superlek scores in that exchange. If you don't understand this then you don't get Thai boxing. It's the same in the clinch. You take away your opponents weapons meaning your technical ability is superior to there's. So simply put the scoring isn't always about striking. There's more to it then that.

nope, because the 3rd round was in favor of superlek (unanimous points by the judges), so even if there was no knockdown superlek would still win round 2 by 1 point, and since he wins round 3 also by 1 point then he wins 2 rounds by 2 points and since rodtang only won round 1 by 1 point, the knockdown didn't affect the outcome
