I’m crying tears of JOY. Even though I’ve owned Hairspray 2007 for years, I’ve only ever watched the 1988 version. I stumbled across this song about an hour ago in Glee clip, BUT THIS video is making cry tears of PURE JOY. Absolutely BRILLIANT.
It's pretty impressive that he took this really quirky movie, turned it into a Broadway hit, then turned THAT version of it back into a movie! I know there's plans to turn the musical version of Mean Girls into a movie, but other examples of this escape me right now.

This was amazing but I started crying halfway through because I realized all of these folks are out of work as well as all the set designers, lighting people, costumers, stage managers, directors, etc. How many will abandon entertainment to survive? I love that Ricki Lake didn't play Tracy in a musical version of Hairspray and yet she's constantly included in these sorts of things. Makes me wish Divine were still around so she could've also enjoyed the perks of her 'Hairspray' association (imagine her in this video sharing the screen with Harvey Fierstein!).

Geeze, I remember this in our generation's darkest times and I am watching this again with a new perspective on how much happiness this brought so many people who just needed a little bit of a smile... that's what performers do, even though the arts were struggling the most. It's a happy song but I still get emotional about this one.
I've returned to this several times, and each time I cry. It's beautiful to see the various casts of the various versions of "Hairspray" coming together for a great cause and because they just simply make us happy.

Geeze, I remember this in our generation's darkest times and I am watching this again with a new perspective on how much happiness this brought so many people who just needed a little bit of a smile... that's what performers do, even though the arts were struggling the most. It's a happy song but I still get emotional about this one.

Alex’s I Know Where I’ve Been is an absolute religious experience and I ain’t even religious. I don’t think Alex has done it on Broadway sadly. Pretty sure they’ve only been in the Broadway revival of Once On This Island so far and they might be a bit busy for a while since they have the Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist movie and maybe even the Once On This Island movie to work on
