As long as the admin password was easily accessible on their website after perhaps agreeing to some (non-evil) legal text, that'd be OK. If they password it and don't share it, that's a move in the wrong direction.
This video makes me think fondly back to my 1955 Chevrolet with inline-6 engine and 3-speed manual transmission. It had none of the features of a modern car, but there were few things that could go wrong with it, they were predictable, they were easy to diagnose, and I could fix them myself with basic mechanical tools. It was capable of the most important function of a vehicle -- transportation. These days, every electronic device has hundreds of available functions because the hardware and software are capable, not because they're necessary.
I do like that auto-dipping. I'm that jerk that tends to drive at night with the brights on (it's dark out there!), but occasionally forgets to turn them off when on traffic is oncoming.
Love ForScan, it’s made my 2019 STX f150 so much better. I added the keypad, trailer brakes, changed my aux 12v to always on, & removed a bunch of annoying chimes.
Hi Nikki, you may be reducing the life of your LED light bar by running it at full brightness. Full brightness means more heat, reducing the life of the components. Bigclivedotcom TH-cam channel has a few videos where he explains this and hacks household led bulb circuitry to run it at less power (brightness) trading off for longer life.
that should be stock for all vehicles. I use a seatbelt extension to stop my belt warnings. I ALWAYS use my seat belt but I don't need to be forced to put it on while warming the seat or programming the map etc. I would shut off the commitment to follow the rules too. thanks again.
French people need subheading when watching this kind of videos. But the way you speak is so understable ! I would like to hear all the tutorial with your voice :D Thanks from the Pyrénées ! 🤘
Just to comment on one of the questions that’s been asked multiple times. Ford uses the same “body module” for their cars in multiple markets, sometimes multiple vehicle models. The software gets programmed depending on the particular vehicle, market, purchased options, etc. That’s what the “as built data” is. When you replace body modules in any Ford, these options have to be programmed to the vehicle. The ForSkin, I mean Scan, software just does the exact same thing the Ford factory scan tool does. So, it’s safe. This software is just changing the options that Ford has already provided. Matrix headlamps are one of the biggest things I’m looking forward to regarding vehicle technology in the US. It’s such a brilliant (heh) idea that many cars are capable of, but restricted from doing in the US. Lighting law changes are so, so far overdue in the US, including huge improvements to minimum lighting standards, improvements to the required (auto) aiming of headlamps, required amber turn signals front and rear, and matrix headlamps. The only vehicle I own that could make use of that is my Model 3, since Model 3/Y headlamps have been matrix since 2021, but Tesla hasn’t enabled it yet. That’s really the only complaint I have about Tesla headlights. The headlights in my Ioniq5 are abysmal. Truly awful given the price of the car. Seems to be common among Hyundai/Kia since the 3 Hyundai/Kias that we’ve owned (all with the highest option headlights we could get on the vehicle) have been horrible. I’m already looking for aftermarket options.
Nice tweaks! These sort of videos are very helpful. Hopefully it helps F150 owners for some time to come. I've a Renault Zoe and similar videos helped me when I got my car. I was able to do similar tweaking and enable Android Auto. Absolute gamechanger as the cars mapping is worse than bad. I have abetterrouteplanner now with battery SOC (via OBD connection).
Nikki, Curios if you could have used this system to diagnose that your truck's USB connection was dropping out while your truck was powering your home. Do you see logged USB error events concurrent with those failures?
Well done. I love seeing forum members sharing great information like this. Since these vehicles are basically computers on wheels, I'm sure this is just the tip of the iceberg.
The European pattern, you mentioned at around 3:30 min is only working at low beam. It is then an asymetrical one, where the right headlight is reaching farther then the left one. As high beam is meant to be used when there is no oncoming traffic, why should it be asymetrical as well?
Love the video and have been tempted to play with my car but don't have the coding background to not brick it. Should the Sono Sion graphic be on this video or is it a hangover from a previous video?
I don't know about all the features and such, but alot of the "features"/"fixes" are do able without the hex codes by going in the regular not the "as built" version of the settings (this may not be available for "new" vehicles untill the codes and such are discovered and tested by the reverse-engineers making the software. Also best practice is to save your settings yourself before making changes, you can then restore them if you mess up. You mentioned an issue with a Chevy Volt, potential users of Forscan (that don't know about it) should kniw it is a Ford specific software, it doesn't work (to my knowledge) on non Ford vehicles, like the mentioned Chevy, but the point does get across. The diagnostic function should work on just about any Ford with an OBD-II port, but features changes is mostly on 2010 or so and newer vehicles.
The app appears to be proprietary and not available on linux. Is there some open code that does this job? Was this all reverse-engineered (by someone who wasn't worried about bricking) or did a document leak?
Only bad side is with this new technology is at any time Ford or any other manufacturer connects to the vehicle for updates (they just don't only download the updates they also upload the the system too), they know you have hacked the system as parameters have been changed from what the vehicle was set to before it left the factory. So when that light bar burns out prematurely (hence why they don't have it set at 100% from they factory as they already know it's life expectance through testing) and you take it in they will see a different time stamp locked in the system when it was changed, meaning denied warranty work and/or flagging the whole vehicle and denying any electrical warranty work. This is no different then tuning a vehicle as the ECU needs to be hacked to change any code as manufactures already deny repairs for ECU hacks.
Will Foreskin let you remove or turn down the annoying frunk chime? Or remove that annoying double honk when closing the door after exiting the truck with the key in your pocket while the truck is on?
Cool video What's with the text about Sono Sion from about 12:58 to 13:53 ? Seems like that's from a different video that somehow got copied to this one. The text after that makes more sense (if accurate) but still shows a bit earlier than I would think it should. Are you all just busy / doing too many jobs again or something for that to slip through?
I did something similr with my 2013 Audi Q5 to change the tail lights. In the US, Audi uses all red tail lights and binds the blinker module to the break lights. So they work like all red tail lights. I prefer the amber turn signals in Europe. So I bought OEM European tail lights and installed them. But to get the amber turn signals to work independently of the tail lights, I had to edit the onboard computer. I used a similar ODB connector and VCDS software to modify the hex codes to decouple the turn signals from the break lights. Worked famously. =)
Do you know if the headlight modification would work on a Mach-E with Premium/GT Headlights? It seems like the lightnings headlight assembly is a bit more complicated.
Can you open the charge port door when your truck is locked? My Pro allows anyone to open it freely when locked. It should never open if is locked to avoid vandalism to your port. Another issue: it will not lock the charging plug, so anyone can just unplug your truck leaving you with no charge at all.
Make annoying hood open and close chimes go away. That would top my list aside from making Ford actually give me a build date without giving up the onboard scales
So this is basically VCDS, but for Ford cars. I can get behind that. My wife's considering the same truck (but I'll talk her into Platinum) so this will definitely be a future purchase for me.
Can you change teh time that fuse 148 is powered after leaving truck. (the lighted emblem modification when using that fuse (heated seat) will stay lit for 12 minutes
could one use this to take care of the sucscription servies bm, gm, and mercedes are trying to shove down our thrats? we own the vehicles, we should be able to upgrade them, right?
With a similar tool I ‘hacked’ available android auto on my Zoe years ago. It was a bit more complicated because the ODB dongle had to be modified but otherwise the same. There are also more modifications available, i.E getting the heating to work while charging.
I used something like this on my BMW i3.. had lots of settings that I could find.. I think it was 'Carly' or something like that. It would let you do all of those things in a nice verbal, not hex way. You have to be very very careful.
Have you done the idle time in park for the boot ev to be change to 89 hours of stand by idle time.??? I would like that for my bolt ev for when I'm in park inside the car and also the preconditioning to be set to 2 hours would be nice option as well.
Great video thank you! Two questions: 1. will modified settings revert every time a software update is pushed? 2. I have a pro model WITHOUT 360 cameras. if I get the factory cameras and install them…will this software allow me to enable the 360° view on screen?
I would turn the day time light bar off. LEDs have a limited life. If run a 100% they will burn out faster that's why Ford set them to 10% for day time running lights. One more thing about LED life they dim over time. Really good manufacturers list this on their packaging. They will list life hours and the brightness you should expect at a given hour run time. As for the turn signal. That setting is available in the infotainment system or instrument cluster settings. Nice to know that truck has a ODBII port since it doesn't have to have one.
Side note: Is there a reason the headlights are flickering? I seem to be noticing flickering headlights in various people’s videos lately and I’m not sure if it’s always been a thing or if it’s the new ‘cool’ thing on the block, like the light shows some cars now put on, just on a much smaller scale. Unless it’s a how those particular lights function sort of thing…
They do not flicker to the human eye. But digital cameras are not synced to the normal pulse of the LED lamps. It is like filming a fan blade or airplane prop which appear to spin backward or spin slowly.
Dang I thought I had a defective turn switch. It wouldn't stop flashing when I pressed the arm back up I ended up turning the opposite turn signal on. LOL Thanks for this video!
@@somethingsomething404 There are modes in the truck, and the "transmission" is a computer, so, yes, it might be possible to get more battery with this if it is one of the modules exposed with the OBD connection. I would recommend knowing what you were doing, but based on your comments, my guess is that you wouldn't. Good luck changing your transmission without changing the entire mechanical module or any of the modules for a particular gear.
As amazing as this is, be careful with this recode - not only are ADB matrix headlamps not required in the US, they are not yet approved for use here. NHTSA is still working on approving it and writing the specifications for this technology by order of Congress, but they are currently 100% illegal. Now, that doesn’t mean they’re unsafe, seeing as they follow either ECE regulations or possibly in this case CMVSS Canadian standards. But I would not want this feature enabled near cops or during inspections. That said it’s really cool to have this feature early and I can’t wait for it to be available. Now if only manufacturers would use ADB to reduce low beam glare down even further than it is now, but I suspect they will always have a fixed low beam pattern that will have its own downsides. The other half is the mounting height of headlamps - it’s ridiculous that so many cars have headlamps at chest height or well above my head when I’m sitting in the drivers seat. Sure they can and must be aimed down, but they still glare in many situations. Ugh, headlamps have gotten frustrating lately. So many bad designs, tall hoods and lights, bad glare control, and excessive brightness in certain directions… maybe it’ll get better with time and regulation. One last thing - it may be your camera settings, but your high beams are fairly disappointing. In Bjorn Nyland’s headlamp reviews, on cars with good matrix lamps you can really see their action but in your footage you can barely see where the high beam is dipped around oncoming cars. I guess the IIHS doesn’t show any miracles on high beam for the f150 with the advanced lighting package so it’s not surprising, but it’s almost a shame to have ADB that’s barely noticeable. Maybe they need to be aimed - I’m not used to driving trucks but they seem aimed rather high for 3-4’ high mounted headlamps.
Per the video footage... Pretty sure the camera just auto adjusted the exposure so quickly that you cant tell. It requires a fixed exposure to really see the effect, which typically requires manual exposure.
Actual Ford tech here you know by doing that your voiding your powertrain warranty. We can see when you modify anything with over the air updates. Ford lightning is connected to Ford period. And the way the mach e went you'll probably need some type of repairs. That battery can be upwards of twenty K so go ahead and Jack around with forscan you'll end up paying a steep price just to change some settings. Your lucky every module in the vehicle hasn't bricked.
Not recommended. If it is possible and someone kills themselves after modding this SUV to go faster than 200mph then very quickly such modifications will become illegal, and much harder to preform. Also "if its really a mustang" is a bunch of nonsense. Its a car sold by Ford with a Mustang badge, that is the beginning and end of the story of whether its "really a mustang".
Please do a follow up after the next over air update and let us know if your changes get reset to factory and if you have to go back in and update your changes again.
I'm happy to see you doing such nerdy things to your Lightening. Bravo!
It would be great if OEMs put these kind of tweaks into the infotainment system's Settings menu (even if locked behind an admin password screen).
As long as the admin password was easily accessible on their website after perhaps agreeing to some (non-evil) legal text, that'd be OK. If they password it and don't share it, that's a move in the wrong direction.

And I only had three channels on my TV but it avoided confusion on what to watch compared to now that we have 300 channels.
Ford used to provide a way to turn off the seatbelt minder in the owners manual. For that, no need for FORScan, unless they removed that process.
I do like that auto-dipping. I'm that jerk that tends to drive at night with the brights on (it's dark out there!), but occasionally forgets to turn them off when on traffic is oncoming.
I what swear at you for your confession, but I must say thanks for your honesty, ❤
I love your disclaimer "don't come running to me if you screw it up" 🤣
This is awesome! I've watched a lot of Lightening videosand first time seeing this. Love how detailed and nerdy y'all get.
Love the headlight tweak, that's handy. The reprogramming seems pretty straight forward and fun.

Good vid with info as usual. You have no idea how annoying that blinking light to your left behind the wheel is!

You can do the seatbelt chime in a ford truck without the laptop. I dont remember the exact sequence, but it can be done.

Do you know if there is an Ioniq 5 equivalent of this?
great vid.I see a future with shade tree mechanics carrying laptops
It's been that way for decades.
I love that you bands your truck to Adira Tal ❤
Does this affect any warranties or Insurance? Also how secure is it from OTA hackers?

For the adaptive lights, there are some values they have listed as --. What do -'s Mean?
just wondering what that electric bill is every month?
could one use this to take care of the sucscription servies bm, gm, and mercedes are trying to shove down our thrats? we own the vehicles, we should be able to upgrade them, right?
My 2019 F150 gas burner has the procedure in the owner manual for turning off the annoying seat belt warning alarm. Don't need Forscan for that one.

Fantastic picture on the video. Surprised Ford didn't do that already. But I guess they are busy catching up.
If I have a Pro can I enabled 360 camera view using Forscan?
13:13 Did you mean to drop that text there?
Also will any of these settings be written over with new OTA updates from Ford?
Mac running Windows...Love It!....Yay Bootcamp!!
Sadly...new Macs don't do it...
Can you hack the Productivity Screen in my Lightning so that it will actually power up and be used again? 😩

Can you please add a link to the website you are using to find the values?
Thanks for your time
In the description!
Great Job!!! This is the stuff I like!!!
Can't you do that with the forscan app, and a cheap Bluetooth obd?
Maybe watch the video before commenting.
For a quick moment I thought I read the title as Ford F150 Lightning with Foreskin. 🤣
is it possible to use this software to change the charging curve of the truck?
Even if you could, you shouldn't. It exists for a reason.
Dang I thought I had a defective turn switch. It wouldn't stop flashing when I pressed the arm back up I ended up turning the opposite turn signal on. LOL Thanks for this video!
I want to disable the requirement to touch the wheel on adaptive cruise control
enjoyed the video. battery health?
at 13 min there is a text shown from another video 🤔
Would have been nice if you cleaned the bird poop off the front grille 😛
i definitely want my light bar on bright during the day as well!!! are you located anywhere near South Jersey??? Ill pay you haha
Those are giant icons on your screen. Is that for vision problems?
Giant icons where? - Nikki

Can you still hack it if you've been circumcised?
Can this software allow me to raise the governed speed limit?
We believe it's possible, but you should note that it may also void warranties if you're making adjustments to that particular part of the vehicle...
Thats not a "victory" sign there, Vicky. Or was it intentional? 🤣
And my name isn’t Vicky either…
Thank you so much for dimming your headlights, love, you are incredibly knowledgeable, USA is behind times on some issues
Wait, Adira Tal as in Star Trek: Discovery?
Um, it works on ICE powered Fords too. It has for a long time.
Thank you

That battery can be upwards of twenty K so go ahead and Jack around with forscan you'll end up paying a steep price just to change some settings. Your lucky every module in the vehicle hasn't bricked.
What powertrain? It's a soulless truck with electric motors.
So glad I have matrix headlights in my Tesla. Shame they are dumb headlights
"No, not that word...", lol
Dimming the light bar was how they got the range to meet target. It seems so silly, it's a lazy engineer way to do it.
i hacked my ford fusion to enable the tire pressure sensor display.
it should have came enabled from the factory.
Is there a way to remove the vehicle’s top speed limiter? It’s a shame that the Mach-E GT can’t go faster than 200km/h.
On what roads is it legal for you to travel at such speeds
@@enadegheeghaghe6369 any race track or drag strip. If it is really a mustang, then it will without a doubt be taken to public tracks by many people.
@@patreekotime4578 people die in their modified cars all the time. For most countries, as long as a car is road-legal, it can drive on public roads.
How’s the range in the cold 😂😂😂
Very nice.
