I feel like hairspray was stronger back then than it is today so you wouldn't use that much and most people pomaded their hair so you wouldn't need as much I guess

What a gorgeous foam roller set... as a guy with longer hair , I can say that I heave never done a foam
Roller set however I so do regular wet sets using brush rollers or Velcro rollers and either a soft hood dryer or a pedestal dryer . I believe in doing what makes me comfortable and not necessarily what society expects of me , my fascination with rollers and roller sets started as a young child as i would watch my mother roll her hair with great intrigue and fascination.. I love your roller set.

That's seriously awesome, go you!! I'm all about breaking societal views. Everyone deserves to have beautiful bouncy hair so who cares what anyone thinks, hahaha. Yeah you should try the foam rollers! They're a bit hard to sleep on but the curl they give you is undeniable ❤️😊

once I put a brush on it, my hair looks electrocuted :'( ..... I never get those nice shiny vintage curls/waves, I can brush for 2 hours. Or it's one frizzy mess, or the curl is pulled out.

@@rachelmaksy Hey Rachel, I don't know if you'll see this, but I recently tried a curl setting lotion I made myself using boiled flaxseed + water, which creates a weird gel. It actually worked really well, it's odorless and cheap, and lasted me two days! I was wondering if maybe you could try it out on video? I haven't seen anyone else on TH-cam try it yet :)

Also keep trying. It took me a whole month to learn how my hair works. I learnt for me to get the rollers as close to your scalp as possible. It really does matter where you place your rollers. I do 4 rows of rollers across my head. 2 at the top and 2 in front of my forehead to create a nice fringe. but it could very well be different for you because i have VERY straight hair. :-)

Great video! I love foarm rollers. My hair is growing out of a pixie at the moment. so i do on-base curls with foam rollers all over the top of the head and pin curl the fringe and the bottom bits that are too short for rollers. its more of a 50s look though. I can't wait till my hair is long enough to do something like this.

Did this with a cross between a foam roller and rag roller, being its one I got from Amazon a while back specifically that you can use while you sleep with a silk hair cover while I sleep that is bandana print, it works for my thin hair, which I have plenty of, provided you curl at night with product the first night, and roll it the following nights till you wash your hair. Make sure and keep it in as long as you can before going out. Highly recommend.

I need some advice please Rachel: My hair is white blonde (extremely processed) but it’s not exactly damaged or very fragile, but it is prone to dryness and frizziness because of this. I have been wanting to sleep in foam rollers for awhile now but I’m paranoid that I will distress my hair from sleeping on it often and I was going to try to use the wet set technique but I’m also even more nervous that I will pull too hard on it and cause my hair to break off.. I suppose the same goes for if were to sleep in a dry set much like yours. I attempted to sleep in a dry set of rollers but I just couldn’t get myself to fall asleep with them in, even with a hair scarf protecting it..
My proposal: maybe you could possibly make a video about how you literally sleep and maneuver with these rollers throughout the night? Any advice, warnings or tips???
    Thank you so much!!

In stead of a scarf you can use a hair net to help keep the rollers in, this works the best for me since a scarf slips off my head or a fabric sleep cap that is in the hair accessories/comb section of the store. I like the hair net especially in summer since it gets to hot wearing a scarf or sleep cap at night.

I take its best to add the lotion or whatever you have to slightly damp hair? Or dry hair? I have pomade but nothing like setting lotion

Anyone with naturally tight curly hair do you do the same method? If I brush out my hair it would be massive!!! Should I straighten it first?

I tried this and my curls came out waaaay to big and crooked... My hair is a bit longer, but still it should work?

Does this work in naturally curly hair? I normally look like a 1980s hot mess...

I think so! I think once you moisten the hair with setting lotion, it'll 'reset' the curls into the shape you want them!

Loved your video! I believe you can get Motions foaming wrap lotion at Sally's beauty, I use that and a little lotta body setting lotion mixed with water on damp hair, my wet sets usually last for a week or so

mutanicdecreeper Hmm I haven't tried Sally's yet! Target also ~sometimes has it, so I just get two bottles online instead of worrying about it hahaha

You look just like the Molly McEntire illustration from my childhood! It was a historical children’s novel about a girl living in the 1945 and getting pin-curls done.

Thank you for sharing this, it is a great help. I finally mustered my courage and had a go. I need to track down some setting lotion, but wanted to have a play with the rollers and some water. Wow...this is quite tricky for someone who does not normally play with hair. Let's see what tomorrow brings...according to my husband the scarf looks very vintage on my head....maybe I should keep wearing that instead of checking how things turned out? oO Made me realise I need a haircut though...how do you tame fly aways? Yours looked lovely and neat. ^^

Another great video! First time I tried foam rollers I really thought you had to have wet hair... Well I never been so disapointed in the morning. The top looked awful, too curly (used small curlers) and the rest was still soaking wet. 😂 Now I do it on freshly washed hair, but just a bit damp.

Caroline Lapointe Yup! I know those struggles. My hair takes FOREVER to dry, so even damp hair doesn't work with me hahaha.
