This was a relatively tame DG list. Not loaded with Heavy Support choices. Baring the last turn, it was actually closer to a draw. It was the Goonhammer 'Cost of War' secondary victory condition that tipped it. If Gene had not lost, the Warlord, deathsworn and vargyr in the last turn. He would have won, as Gene had denied the DG any objective points during the game.
Really enjoyable video! I do like the shortness of your more edited battle reports, but I also do love seeing the dice rolls! I feel like you hit a good balance here
This game was like a 30k version of the battle of Agincourt; the Space Wolves just getting bogged down in the mud while being slowly taken apart by the Death Guard's ranged weapons. While I think Gene was definitely too cautious with his Wolves it was still a really entertaining game.
Lovely terrain and armies as usual. My following critique is not specific to this channel and could have been posted to any other who hosts HH reports. Almost always forces are composed of a trademark Legion rite of war. While this is fluffy seeing this repeated in most reports is tiring. How to change things up? An easy solution. Use rites of war which focus on something else like for example vehicles for a change (Armoured Spearhead). As most players on TH-cam channels have a vast collection of models they wouldn´t need to buy and paint new models to accomplish this. To make the battle not one-sided both players should agree beforehand to choose an Armoured Spearhead. Also remember that you can still field infantry when using this rite of war but they need to start in transports. When using such a rite of war you could use the occasion to highlight any house rules you have made to give tanks a better performance in the game. Apart from the Armoured Spearhead other rites of war who are rarely seen could also be used although I doubt anybody has for example lots of drop pods hidden in their drawers. So a vehicle or dreadnought list (Fury of the Ancients for both players) would make things more interesting for the viewer.
All fair points! We will definitely mix up the RoW as some viewers want more competitive and some more relaxed gaming. Will definitely highlight any house rules as well👍
Weirdly enough after completing my Space wolves legion, I am working on my Iron Warriors as well - something about doing a shooty army after an all melee one makes sense I guess. This was a great Batrep. Getting to see what a casual game of 30k looks like. I haven't really touched my Deathsworn but seeing how it was utilized here - I am going to give it a try.
Having some variety in play style to choose from is always nice. Both the SW and the IW are great forces with polar opposite playstyles. If you aren't using the Deathsworn you are missing out on some of the SW punchiness. They are also beautiful sculpts to paint and look at.
Nice looking armies. Great game. Space wolves bad positioning kinda gave this game away to the death guard, not shooting 7 lascannons turn 1 nor return fire? But the DG also did a bit of traitorous cheating - Indirect fire barrage always scatters 2d6 without substracting the BS.
Thanks for pointing that out. You are correct. The nuncio vox only allows for re rolls of scatter, not counting as having line of sight. I think we are still mentally in a hold over from 1.0 for that wargear. Space Wolves didn't optimise the use of reactions. But also the Recon were outside of range cause of shroud bombs for the lascanons to return fire.

No problem, its still a dice game which also went in favor of the DG. Was a fun match up non the less, looking forward to the next one :).
No intentional cheating here! Messed up 1.0 and 2.0 barrage rules. First time to use barrage in 2.0, completely my mistake!
