What a fabulous video to watch on a Sunday morning, coffee in hand. Trena really has surpassed all the other craftsmen on TH-cam by adding the teaching aspect as well as entertainment. This video shows the patience and art required by a true craftsman. My favorite is watching her make the molds and replacing the missing embellishments. She and her father are my absolute favorite team.

Vaughan Williams - not The Lark Ascending though you will probably like that too, but the piece you love is Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis. It was composed in 1910 but the main theme is 16th century. You might like the Fantasia on Greensleeves too. Happy listening and thanks for rescuing that poor old bureau. What a life that had had. You pretty much brought it back from the dead! Back in September 1983 I had a weird experience with 'your' tune - on a walking holiday on the Shropshire/ Welsh border we walked into Bishop's Castle, a Tudor town. We walked in very early in the morning, no one around and walking down a hill with half timbered buildings on either side the Fantasia wafted out of an open window. It felt like we'd time-shifted back to the end of the 16th century! Eventually the postman broke the spell but it was a magical moment.

    B. This restoration is a great showpiece for your exceptional craftsmanship, creativity, aesthetic taste, and heart.

Hello Trena, you made an absolutely beautiful job on that cabinet and I appreciate the asymmetrical mirror a lot. My grandad had similar pieces where the flow of the design enchanced by applique lifted a functional cabinet into a piece of art. He was a silversmith, worked in Birmingham UK and made some of the pieces for the Queen's coronation. I inherited a small slice of his craftsmanship and made wedding dresses from scratch according to what my clients required, I am now retired. It's lovely to see the handmade crafting continuing on through various arts and your dad must be so proud of you

My Great Grandmother had a similar piece. We weren’t allowed to touch it! Passed to my Grandma, then to my sister. Sometime in the mid 50s it was pickled if that’s the term, kinda a grey white. My sister had it refinished by an amateur who fancied himself an antique dealer. It is now a very pale flat brown that doesn’t do it justice. It originally was stained very dark to match the big round dining table. It and a set of chairs received this pickling colour. The chairs had blue vinyl seat pads to replace the black leather. The chairs still have the grey white colour except the “captains” chair which I refinished as close to the original colour as I could. I lost that to my daughter! My sis isn’t well so I just may get the hutch/secretary yet!

I just love this piece. Funny enough I have never seen a piece like this before so looked them up. They are fabulous and are great for small rooms/houses. I’d love one. You did amazing work on it. You are a true artiste. From the short segment of music you played I do believe it is a piece by Ralph Vaughan Williams called The Lark Ascending. He was inspired by the poem of the same name written in the 1880’s by George Meredith. It’s one of my favourite poems.

The video was just over an hour but I bet the job was closer to maybe 120+? And the internet goes crazy seeing how you glue-up the breadboard end on the oak door 😜. I cannot get over the number of times I have seen you free-hand dowel holes. Very impressive skill, I have done a lot of dowel joints and never even considered doing them without a drill guide. Very nice restoration or should I say cabinet “making” video.

The shelf paper "not really helping the situation". That's much more polite than what I would have said, lol! Very diplomatic of you.

You are a great craftsman! What detail you went into explaining what you did. I can't imagine how much you had to charge your customer. Great work great video
