- I found this painted Danish teak mid century desk on the Facebook Marketplace and knew it needed a restoration. In this video, I will do what I can to remove all the paint and restore it to its original look.
This video is part of the "TH-cams Biggest MCM Challenge" with so many other great creators. Here is the link to the playlist: • TH-cam's Biggest MCM ...

Thanks for watching everyone! I noticed I forgot to add the sanding clips at the end. After cleaning everything with water (allowing it to dry) I sanded the entire piece with 240 grit and cleaned it with a tack cloth. Then I applied the Odie's Oil. - Jamie
You're only human. I had to joke in my comment. At least you called it a desk right? 😂
😢9l
You did a great job with this piece of furniture. You don’t have to speed up the video so much. Some of us enjoy watching the work in progress. It’s not boring. Thanks for being part of this challenge.😊
This desk in good condition is valued 2500 dollars here in Europe. Great job taking it back to its glory.
Amazing, seeing it online I thought it would be a decent project but I had no clue it would be a nice danish teak piece! I got lucky. Thanks for watching
Not quite true, though. Gunnar Tibergaard isn’t a name that’s very sought-after here in Denmark. Maybe other European countries value these kind of mid century teak furnitures higher. In Denmark this would be between 500-650 USD in good condition. Danish people really wants lighter wood like oak and beech. Still a great restoration though.
2500$😂 on which planet??
I'll never understand why people cover up such beautiful wood with paint. 1000% improvement.
there were two holes in the top, and they looked bad and were crumbly. So, painting it is easier for a layperson than fixing it. And I wonder if those dark marks on the drawer fronts were there before the painting
Because of the things he discovered under the paint. You have to remember even 10-15years ago there wasn't the wealth of knowledge available that there is now about products and techniques and sometimes ppl do the best they can.
@@NatashaEstrada Plus, this guy is a dedicated furniture restorer, with a shop and tools and experience. For someone who needed that piece of furniture but had limited skills, painting was probably a wis move. If nothing else, it sealed and protected the wood until it could end up in the custody of someone who wanted to-and was able to-restore it.
My thoughts exactly.😢
If you don’t know how to do all this, you paint it. I don’t know how to do this stuff but I have been watching these to learn so I can redo some pieces from my grandparents.
Flipping Draws brought me here! ✊🏾
I'm here from Flipping Drawers announcing the challenge, but I'm about 3/4 of the way through the playlist. So, yes, I'm new here, but right off the bat I want to say a big thank you for starting this all out with a lead test!
That is an elegant desk. Great job Jamie 😃
Thanks Jay, happy I could join in on this challenge with everyone 😀
Persistence with the oxalic acid certainly paid off.
Thank you for this beautiful addition to the MCM Challenge. Teak is such a classic in Danish Modern furniture. I love how this restoration glows with new life. ❤🏆👌✨️❤️
I love the restoration on the desk. Breaking it down to it's individual pieces increases your work but makes such an incredible restoration.
Glad you enjoyed the process!
I had forgotten about these, but yes, they used to be pretty common when I was a kid … 👍🏻
I deeply appreciate the hockey portion of the program. Excellent work on the desk, too!
Same here :D
I love hearing the hockey game in the background. Until I saw your comment I thought it was a UK soccer game!
It sounded like you had your own cheering squad supporting you with every stroke of the steel wool.
haha I wouldn't mind my own in person cheering squad lol thanks for watching!
So pretty! I think that is the exact desk my mother had for her home office (or it is such a close twin that it hardly matters). Love it.
Glad that you participated in the MCM Challenge otherwise I would never have found your posts. Very nicely restored Teak Desk. In the 1960's, I had a Teak sideboard with IDENTICAL handles! Brought back many memories. I've no idea where it is now. Probably painted purple and sitting in someone's garage now :(
Beautiful work, your patience getting all of that paint out of every crevice is admirable. I love the final piece, I’d have that in my home any day 😎
Looks great!!! Night and day flip!
Teak is such a gorgeous wood. Your project turned out really nice. I hope you do a little video on the color paints when you do the filled in holes, I'd like to see it.
Gotta give whoever painted it credit they did a good job of it
A mid century modern beauty!
Very well done! The restoration is great!!❤
Dude you made that desk glow 😮!
Well done 💪
Gorgeous!! What wonderful work!
Beautiful!!
Thank you! Glad you like it!
The stripper left a mess, good job the acid worked. Another great job J! You forgot to sand it though 😅🤪
Yes thankfully it worked after a handful of applications... and lol I was rushing to get this video completed for the deadline and of course had to miss something 🤣 Thanks for watching tequeena :)
Great job!!!! Can’t wait to see how you blend those other spots out.
Thanks! Will be fun to figure out how to blend it all together. Thanks for watching :)
Is the hole in the middle of the top an appropriate place to install a cable access puck?
Wow❤ you turned this into a shopcase piece. Beautifully done
Hi Jamie. It's such an elegant table and you made it look amazing. It's fun to watch you work 😊🤗
I love teak. Not every project goes as planned but you made the best of it.
thanks!
Great job restoring this…it turned out beautifully.
Thank you very much!
Many people don’t realize that when you Paint a piece of furniture with regular paint you would use on drywall hous interiors especially in wet climates, the likelihood that Rot will ensue under the paint & Mold will grow is strong. As shown by this little Teak floating drawer desk. Another reason I don’t like painted furniture. This was a great restoration of this valuable Mid Century Modern cleaver Teak Floating Drawer Desk. Turned out very pretty . Blessings from Dozer, Butter Bean & me in Garden Ridge Texas❤
Nice work Jamie! Glad to see you back in action!
Hi Jaime. The desk looks so much better. Thank you for salvaging this beauty!
Great job Jamie 👍 I felt your pain when you found those holes under the paint 😮😀👍👍👍
Thanks David! Never fun finding holes haha enjoyed doing the challenge with you! 🙂
What a gorgeous makeover! I’m a first time viewer but I will be back. I love your filming/editing style. You say so much without saying a word 😊
Thank you so much!! :)
Beautiful end result! You are a skilled craftsman. Thanks for joining this challenge so those of us new to your channel can follow along with your work.
Wow! This is Furniture Reincarnation!! Such great skill and patience. 👏🏼
What a gorgeous piece, can't believe someone would cover that beautiful wood with paint. You have restored a gem, beautiful!😃😃
Man, that was a Buzzfeed Nifty looking nightmare and you brought it back to prominence. Great job even with the discolored patches.👍🏽
I'm here from FLIPPING DRAWERS and MAYFIELD RESTORATIONS.
Forget the hockey game you need cheerleaders. You did a great job, especially when admitting you couldn't do a part complete and require additional supplies. To me that's a sign of a good crafts person. A beautiful looking piece of furniture and even better now you took the time to remove the paint. I've given a thumbs up, subscribed/bell notification and I will watch your other videos.
Thanks so much! I appreciate your kind comment and that you subscribed, it means a lot :)
FABULOUS! It's a miracle...well, well done.
Thanks so much!
Great job I like your editing
Thanks!
Great job! Precious family to help.
The set of drawers slides so you can choose the best side, RIGHT or left, for whoever is going to use it. Great work, congratulations.
Hi Jamie, you did a great job😮, good luck with the challenge🤞
Thank you Luca! Much appreciated :) Good luck to you as well, enjoyed doing this challenge with everyone!
Nice transformation!! It is gorgeous ❤
thanks :)
Gorgeous!!!😊❤
Thank you! :)
Felicitation mr c'est un très beau travail jaime bcp ce meuble est magnifique 👍👍👍🥰👌
It looks amazing...I love mid century furniture.
Wow--gosh that looks stunning!
❤ I like this piece. The sliding drawer thing is cool. Hope to see it finished.
Nice job! The water in the stripper reacting with the original finish is possibly what stained the wood. I had some teak/walnut lamp bases that got wet when they were mostly bare wood and they turned black. Didn't try any oxalic acid on them as they were pretty beat up already.
I'm here for the MCM challenge.
Beautiful restoration! Way to try new things. It turned out great!! I hit subscribe so I can see how you tackle the holes. WELL DONE MAN!!!
This is amazing. The teal paint kills the appeal of furniture instantly for me, always so satisfying to see it off 😂
I actually like the dark patches. I'll look forward to seeing what you do with it...
Wow was much better without the dark patches👌
BEAUTIFUL ❤ I THINK🤔 THE DOORS ARE BURL ❤
I found you through the challenge. Thank you for taking part. This is quite a transformation!
That paint job was such an abomination. I appreciated the lead test footage.
Awesome! Thank you!
Wooo! Go hockey players! 🤣 I wish I was Canadian, but sadly I'm just a lowly southern US citizen living vicariously through Canadians in Mississippi 🤣
Gorgeous
Beautiful!
Absolutely beautiful great job ❤❤❤❤
Great job! Bravo to you both.😊
Beautiful! Thank you!
Nice! ❤
WOW! Awesome job!
I was thinking they probably painted it because those stains were there. Nice work.

Beautiful 🤎 🤎
Beautiful job. It's nice to find someone who respects the beauty of wood. 😊
Beautiful restoration. Plus I love teak, and just the whole look and style of the desk was fantastic. Go N.J. Devils!!
I did like the video. You are a very thorough workman, and the piece shows that your attention to detail will serve you will in getting the small details that you want to improve on done right. I subscribed to your channel today because I'm eager to see what else you get into. When you get all your repairs done on this little guy, add it to a another video as a followup. I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants to see how the repairs turned out. Looking forward to more!!
good work
Beautiful!🎉
Thanks Karen :)
