    We're definitely living in The Golden Age Of Gear. When I was a teen in the 70s, there was nothing remotely like this, and devs weren't making "Squier" versions of axes, or anything. Stompboxes were nowhere near as common and with so many 100s of varieties like now, and no new stompbox was ever under like 150 USD, in SEVENTIES dollars. I like your guitar. A Tele with Gretsch type pups; that's a good "recipe". Cheers

    Here's an idea, if you want to take this whole thing further -- put together the best #affordaboard for each brand and have a shootout. Donner affordaboard vs Kmise vs Azur, etc. Which brand can supply the best solution?

      dawangai That would be a cool idea, to compare and contrast as well as assess strengths and weaknesses across brand lines. I suspect many would sound pretty similar (because I suspect most of them use the same circuits, just with different paint jobs), but I’d definitely be interested in QC/build quality differences.

    Put that compressor pedal at the beginning of your chain and you will be delighted with the clarity, articulation, and " levelling" of the notes you play. I have never even tried a compressor before and was astounded at how it cleaned up the way every note presented itself. And mind you, I've been playing nearly every day for the past fifty-four years! The way it polishes the notes is just amazing. These Donner pedals kick ASS!

      Compressors are those pedals you don't think you need until you have one. They're boring, you don't want to spend the money on it, it takes up space on your board, then holy shit... everything sounds so much better when you finally get one.

I shut everything down and came back 20min later and the thing was clicking and had been shut off for 20min! Not sure what kind of circuit but is crazy!

      @mark5150ty 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@johnnygreenway3579 the Donner power supply that I have is a direct copy of the one spot. I'm not sure if they still make it. Last time I looked at there website it was nothing like it was a few years ago, they used to have thousands of pedals to choose from now they barely have anything. It seems that when they decided to start making instruments they stopped making pedals. The pedals are what made them popular in the first place, in my opinion that was a bad choice.

    I have a bunch of these affordable mini pedals from Donner, Kmise, Mosky, Mooer and Azor. All the pedals have been good and do what they’re advertised to do. The only 1 pedal I have been a little disappointed in is the Kmise tremolo. There’s a boost when it’s turned on so it makes the guitar louder.

      Same here. I've bought so many I've lost count. Only 4 have been bad. Behringer reverb started making a weird tinny noise when activated. Also Behringer Harmonist/ Pitch Shifter went mad all of a sudden. Eno octave pedal hisses noticeably when in bypass & Donner Tutti Chorus can be a bit poppy sometimes. Still a lovely chorus pedal tho. All the rest work just great.

    All the Donner pedal pedals were OK. I liked to the Octave and Delay best too. My test is if a pedal "inspires" then it is worth considering. I think putting the Snake Bite on the Ambient Affordaboard is a good choice. Thanks

  • @markferguson3745
    @markferguson3745 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    All compressors are not the same; you have to find the one that works for you.The Orange Kongpressor, the Xotic SP and the Keeley (with the dry blend) are all cool, but very different.Try before AND after drives,- again, a personal choice.The EHX Tone Corset is inexpensive, and a great "first" introduction; the more complex circuits are a little harder to learn and employ well.
    I generally only use them on clean sounds; good for evening out the wound and plain strings, especially if you down tune or use heavier strings.I think a lot of people try them, but give up before they really understand what they can do.

  • @gwugluud

    Pitch pedals can get crazy, lol, I love them. I have octavers and pitchers, and those make me get experimental. You can't even assign a genre to some severe settings, it's just straight up Dadaism and reminds me of the way late 60s bands were, before everything got all standardized. Back then, rock and roll was for "weirdos" and eccentrics, there was a "rock and roll strangeness" imbuing many albums then. Led Zeppelin are a good example. They're thought of as a hard rock band by most ppl, which they were, but much of their stuff was some of the most "alternative" (in an actual true sense) and unusual material that's ever been made, except for the really overtly extreme stuff, like Captain Beefheart or The Red Crayola, which I love, lol. I miss the weirdness and uniqueness rock used to have before it turned into 'normal" music, lol. I miss getting looked at funny for looking the part, lol, made me feel rebellious, or something.

    I saw the reverb on sale at MusicGoRound and decided to try it out today. SO glad I did - I'm a keyboardist and wanted a boring room sound with a nice clean tail. Playing a big chord with some loud high notes, I got some nasty, prominent digital artifacts. I liked everything about it except for that - what a disappointment! It may be fine with a guitar, but give it a good, hard workout before the exchange period expires.

    Ryan, have you ever come across a budget reverse reverb pedal? Not reverse delay or nothing. My DigiTech Digiverb broke, and it's not fixable vs the price of buying a new one. I was wondering if you or anyone else has ever come across a cheap reverse reverb, given that it's one of the most useful things for shoegaze.

    Great demo! I actually have several Donner pedals, and haven't had any issues with them so far.
    I love the Harmonic Square, and have way too much fun with that one. I think the sharp mode is a bit harsh sounding for my ears, but the flat mode set at the octave is just epic! Especially with an overdrive or fuzz.
    The Blues Drive is great, and is exactly what you would expect. (Blues Driver type tone)
    They have a 2 button Tap Delay pedal that is pretty good. It's a larger bodied pedal, and a little more expensive (About $65 when I bought mine last year). It has a mode switch for digital, analog, and reverse delay. But it does have the tap tempo button, so is really useful.
    One of my favorites is their Dark Mouse pedal. It's black with a picture of a rodent on it, so you can guess what it's going for. It's a beast of an overdrive/distortion. I use it all the time.
    My absolute favorite so far is the Alpha Force. It's a triple effect pedal, and costs about the same as the Tap Delay. It has a hi gain distortion, a chorus, and a delay all in one housing. The distortion can get pretty insane on it, but with the drive dialed back it gets a really good overdrive sound. I've used that pedal with just a wah and a tuner as a simple board setup a few times.

    Hey Ryan! What is your opinion on the cascade fathead mics that you are using in this video? I just ordered a BE edition mic and I found good reviews on them but not from anyone who works with them in and out like you who can accurately speak for the mic. Any advice and feedback you can give on the mic would be much appreciated! I think all the tones you get in these videos are great, but I dont know if thats purely the mic or not obviously, im kinda brand new to this stuff! Thanks!

    When I started playing in the 80s you only had a choice really between Boss and Ibanez pedals in the shops and you'd have to save for a year to buy one pedal, or wait for Christmas.
    Now we are spoiled for choice - as it should be.
    In reality the components of all pedals are the same and cost next to nothing. It's just name brand hype!

    "Studio reverb"? Sounds more like the reverb in a sparsely furnished studio apartment...which isn't necessarily a bad thing; I understand Les Paul used the acoustics in his house for reverb on a few albums.

      I’ve got one of these and it’s actually a pretty fantastic ambient pedal. The delay/verb combinations you can do are fucking wild for the price point. Some of the more normal verbs sound a bit cheap, but don’t think of it as an always on verb and you’ll probably dig it!
