    All Hondas/Acuras since the 90s have bad A/C clutch relays. Most of the time the relay fails to close but like you said sometimes it will fail to open/weld closed. And because the power that feeds the switching side of the relay is constant 12 volt, it will drain the battery if left sitting a short time with the engine off. The fans too are junk on Hondas. Often times failing before the vehicle has 50K miles.

    Great job troubleshooting the problem and remaining calm while doing it. So many times, a lot of techs lose their minds and make the problem worse. Please go back and review your camera work you picked up something interesting and I don't think you caught it. When you were shining your flashlight down towards the A/C pump and was trying to get the clutch to come on you filmed magnetic partials bouncing around on the lower piece of plastic. That is a great indicator of a pump that's getting ready to fail, those are the particles from the motor or clutch coming out and being distributed by the magnet poles on the clutch. Just trying to help a fellow tech, though you seem proficient already. Thanks for sharing!

    New subscriber and I own a 99EXL accord with only 62k miles on it. I just changed the cabin air filters and yes they are in correctly but I noticed the middle A/C air outlets have very little air flow. The driver and passenger out let’s are fine. The A/C also does not feel as cool need to check it with a temp gauge. The scanner says all switches open and close properly. I’m definitely going to check the system your way. Great video and thanks for sharing. 👍. Artie. Any inputs greatly appreciated

    From what I've gathered the Mitsuba relay (39794-SDA-A05) is an improvement over the Omron. And, the Denso (39794-SDA-A02) is an improvement over both the other two.

    Hey there, I had the top of a radiator replaced after we found it had a leak and caused the Honda fit aria to shut off in traffic. The next day the ac stopped blowing cool air. Any idea what the problem could be?

  • @timvu3095
    @timvu3095 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +15

    Assuming there is no leak in the AC system, for AC compressor not working issues, there are really two common problems: either the AC compressor relay is bad or the AC clutch relay/fuse is bad. He found the obvious problem with the AC compressor relay despite the fact that it clicks but checking it with the multimeter confirms it is a dead relay. I had a similar bad relay on my older Honda Accord AC and it cut out the AC during a summer trip, such a bad time. What I did not expect he found was the two worn radiator fans! The vehicle only has a little over 100K miles on it and both fans already worn out. I never had any radiator fan worn out on any of my vehicles ever! That speaks very poorly on the build quality on these cheap sub $20K Honda Element! These cheap Honda are made with cheap parts to keep the price low, don't expect it to last like the Honda CRV or Honda Civic! I'd do something very differently to check on these fans: never use your fingers to touch the fan blades, ever, unless you want to lose one or more fingers. These blades are sharp and if these fans have enough contacts, they could spin up and chop your fingers off your hands! User a screwdriver instead to touch it and nudge it because they could come on at any time when the thermostat tells them to run. There are other problems that cause the vehicle to stop sending power to the AC compressor but you will have to check on those only if these two relays are confirmed fully functional.

      quick question, if I put some freon in the system and it only blows cold air for a week is it most likely a leak? (2007 acura tsx)
      I tried putting the product with UV dye but I could not located a leak.
      AC worked really good with the recharge, just didnt last long.

      @@dannyhefnerdon’t ask the person above a question, they’re an idiot. yes, if it only lasted a week you most likely have a pretty bad leak somewhere

    • @topher8634
      @topher8634 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      2 common areas on Hondas/Acuras for refrigerant leaks is the compressor or condenser. Look for areas that have accumulated a lot of dirt and oil staining. That is likely where the leak will be.

    • @topher8634
      @topher8634 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Honda CRVs and Acura TSXs had a huge compressor design flaw where liquid refrigerant was migrating back to the compressor and because a liquid cannot be compressed, the compressor would detonate catastrophically. They extended the warranty for them but oftentimes it was still outside of the coverage leaving the owner to foot the bill.

  • @patrickjohnson7801
    @patrickjohnson7801 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    On 2019 - 2021 and maybe 22

    My son drives a 2009 Jazz. It`s a greatcar, but the A/C clutch is dead, emitting a loud noise when driving. Can you remove the belt to kill the noise and still drive the car? Obviously the a/c won`t work, but we`d change the clutch at a later stage. Thanks!

    Come on, NEVER must I say NEVER put your finger in a fan to test or try to get them to spin. What if it was just a dead spot and it took off like they can do. You'd have no fingers. Please don't show this stuff to DIY ers, you are promoting a accident. Even a rubber hose could be used to tap it. But if it starts that could be thrown at you. Disconnect it and test it with a meter.
