Funny, I've cleaned a lot of carbs and brought many mowers back to life by doing so. I just had a friend drop off this exact same mower. He was gonna throw it out, but I told him I'd fix it and donate to charity of some type. It wouldn't start at all. When I filled it with gas and turned the gas shut-off valve on, gas started leaking from the carb (was thinking stuck needle). I cleaned the carb (just with carb cleaner) and could see where the needle was getting stuck. I cleaned that all out, removed the main jet and emulsion tube and sprayed it with cleaner as well. Where I couldn't see daylight before in the tube and jet, I could after I was done. I put it all together and it did exactly what the one in your video did; it started and then shut off almost immediately. And I thought the same thing you did - not getting enough gas. I'd forgotten that it's a good idea to run a piece of wire through it as well. I had not cleaned a carb in a minute now, so it slipped my mind. After seeing your video, I went back and did that. Once I was done, like you, I could feel the difference with the wire passing through from when I started passing it through the first time until I was done. I put it back together and it's running like a champ. Well done with your process and the video overall. Thx.
I remember back in the day when I Saw a Honda engine on a Honda mower that was full of bad gas in the tank I told the guy who was going to be working on it that the gas was bad they put new gas in the tank and it fixed the problem with the no start issues with it
@@GuysPlayingWithTools well at least I knew it was a bad thing luckily it fired up when they put fresh gas in the tank I've been there did that with my 33 inch Hi vac snapper rear engine rider I would have to take the old gas out and put fresh gas in it every grass cutting season
Great repair Bill on the Honda! I like that Honda puts a nice fuel shut off valve on their engines. Wish other manufacturers did that , as it sure would save alot of unnecessary carb cleans! 👍🇺🇸
@MinibikeAbe-89 If it dies while mowing, and stays again later, I would go after the plug first(one size cooler), then the ignition coil. If that isn't it, check the filter in the gas tank. I have had that happen now and then and if it stops after running for 15 or more minutes, it's *usually* ignition problems.
Before i do each video, I remind myself that it's the first video for a lot of viewers trying to make heads or tails of their mower. I hope I am getting better each time. 😁
@GuysPlayingWithTools you definitely are, and I tell quite a few people about your channel. So if you get anyone saying K Paul from NYPrepper sent them. That's me, and I moderate for his channel.
There you go! Our pressure washer with a Briggs automatic choke motor would run till the choke kicked out. I didn't have enough hands to work everything or I might've gotten it unstopped by feathering the choke but i pulled the carb off and cleaned it out and it ran fine then but now I haven't had a chance to work on it in two years and I know it's going to be a mess but my ducks never get in a row. Obstinate suckers. Geezerishness does that to a person. You did good as usual so remain calm and stay in the freezer if you need to!
@@GuysPlayingWithTools I'm calm till I'm not. Always been that way. It ought to not be too bad. Just rod it out AFTER I put the tank drain together for it. Then I can drain the tank and crack the carb bowl nut and all will be well. I've got the drain stuff bought. Just need enough zip to do it.
@irish89055 The jets on a Honda are pretty easy but you are 100% right about getting a new filter, fuel lines, and all that. I toss in that a new carb is cheap and easy in every video, even if i am doing a rebuild or clean on the original.

@costoncheatham7025 I appreciate that. It's comments like this that get me moving in the shop on hot summer days. 🙂

The old gas definitely aged better than modern fuel. 👍
@@GuysPlayingWithTools yes it does but I believe that the gas that was in the Honda engine I said had bad gas in it was that ethanol gas ⛽ 😕🙁🫤😡🤬

No kidding. The only real negative I have with briggs motors is the tiny fuel line. No room for a shutoff or filter.
I have a Husqvarna that has that motor and that issue and I just followed your step-by-step and it runs perfectly! Thanks Bill!!
For me it's all about helping people and these are the comments that make it worth it! I am glad to hear it worked, tell a friend! 👍
Awesome video Bill with it Honda's its always sand or yard debris that gets in the carb for sure. 👍👌
Thanks, I am getting spoiled. When I see that in the carb, I really expect it to start the first time I pull the cord.
You ever had one when your in the middle of mowing a yard and spudders and dies dead in the water.... with 5 more lawns to mow? Ahhh fun times 😅

Yeah sounds about right. I found sand in the gas tank. An it would happen on a up hill lawn that has sand around the house.
Yikes, make sure the tank vent (depends on the tank) has a filter on it
It's always the carb!! 🤣🤣
Except when it's the carb. 🤣

It might be a mess after that long, but it's still a pretty easy fix.

@lewiemcneely9143 When you do, I want to see a video. Tag, it's your turn 😁
@@GuysPlayingWithTools I'm content to have no content. I just run a mower now. My last 6 loads of dirt finished the whole shebang.

Nice job Bill
Thanks Al 👍
I haven't seen you for a while. All good?
@@GuysPlayingWithTools I’ve been about, think I’ve watched all your latest videos.
@almclean4835 I slept, I forget everything when I do that. Lol
@GuysPlayingWithTools sleep what’s that ?
@almclean4835 Lol. I can take a nap while riding a roller coaster, I've always been that way.
No air filter or aftermarket pre screen, but put fuel filter in😊
Was the carburettor OEM or aftermarket?
It was the stock carb. The invisible air filter trick drives me crazy. If it's bad enough to take out, it did it's job... get a new one 🙂
Nice repair bill
Thanks, this is one of my favorite types of fix.
One thing about them Hondas lining everything back up and hoping it's all back right and the linkages 😕
They can be tricky the first couple of times. I like the bolts a LOT more than the studs only because it simplifies the linkage. 👍
I think for less than 20 bucks get a new carburetor..comes with filter, spark plug, gas filter and some other things
