Guys playing with tools
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 6 ส.ค. 2021
This channel is for the guy working in his garage on his own equipment. You don't need to be a mechanic or own a hundred tools to take care of 99% of the reasons your equipment won't start. I do my best to avoid tools that most guys(and ladies) don't have.

ECHO SRM 225 stopped working in the middle of a job. An easy carb rebuild will get it back in shape.
Thanks Man! Got a go kart for the boys. I have a split wheels. Could find any info on it. Pretty straightforward but you never know
@rolaki Split rims are a lot easier to work with than one piece. The only drawback is that you will want to use tubes. Nothing wrong with tubes outside of having to buy them. You can get a good deal on Amazon for them. 🙂
@ getting the rusty nuts off is pretty challenging. I need to check for leaks too. It’s definitely a project. Cleaned out clogged carburetor jets last weekend. Thanks
@rolaki if you have a dremel, slice the nuts on the side, not too deep, a small slice takes tension off, and they come off a little easier. It doesn't need to be sliced across the entire nut to loosen out quite a bit. I go through that a *lot*. 🙂
yep done that, just replaced it with regular gas.
I haven't, but it makes sense that it should work. You might need to pull out a few times to get it running, depending on how clean the carb and plug are
how do you get WD40 to all the areas in the tank?
It's a temporary step to buy you time before neutralizing the vinegar with baking soda and water. It will mist pretty well when you spray it inside the tank and find corners and whatnot pretty easily.
I've often wandered about this because I always say if I ever run out of my mower gas I would use the 2 stroke in a pinch👍🏾
Feels like a lot of people have gotten away with it. It seems like it would *usually* work(usually)
@GuysPlayingWithTools Exactly 💯
Give it a run, if it doesn't work, call me. 😁
I would have tried to run it or at least dump out the fuel and try run out carb. Lol smoke show
It had a little has with no 2 stroke fuel that i could see. I think he tried, but it might have been dirty fuel too
I always ran Stihl orange bottle mix oil and pump gas and it'd burn just fine. Never fouled a plug and sometimes the 2-stroke was all the gas to finist a job. Might smoke a little but ran fine and this happened several times. Waiting to see if your hair was standing straight up after the weekend trip. Happy week and stay warm, Bud!
It's a whole week this time, we are off in the Caribbean for a week. Time to goof off a little. 🙂
I am wondering if being Kohler motor had anything to do with it. There is no yelling when you don't know the complete history
@@GuysPlayingWithTools Could be. I mainly ran the 301 cast iron 12 horse jobs on the Gravelys. Dad had a 7 horse on a Troy-bilt Horse tiller but it was cast iron too. My pal wit his own shop does NOT like the new ones. A pal of ours had one in a Cub with 80 hours that had a bad cam. He's replaced more that that one. Hesaid the Cubran better than new. They're not what they were.,

2:50 Billy and the Jets! Billy, Billy, Billy, Billy and the Jets!
It's always the jets 🙂
Some times you have to do that to get the yard cutting done the thing is what type of 2 cycle gas was used being the mineral based or synthetic oil and the mix ratio of it
I don't know much about it, he told me the mix died it and it stopped working. It responded great to a regular tune up and carb clean. 🙂
@GuysPlayingWithTools glad you got it running again Bill 💸💸💵
@robertmailhos8159 👍 Me too
@GuysPlayingWithTools yeah buddy 😎😅 hope you have fun vacation time Bill 💸💵
@robertmailhos8159 We look forward to this trip all year 🥳
I have done that before by accident. It wasn’t much . I. Just filled it the remainder as regular gaa and burned it out with normal use and it was fine.
He said his kids did it so, no telling how thick it was
I gotta wonder if there was something else going on with that mix they dumped in there. That machine should have run on mixed fuel. I purposely add mixed to my push mower and snow blower because thats the only fuel I keep around. Old timers used to add oil to the fuel of all their equipment to "lube the top end".
It's possible. You know how that works, you never get the whole story when buying one.
I have run 2 cycle gas in my mower and nothing happens yes I choose to cause it mixed and it helps keep everything lubed and free moving
I see it often and it usually runs. I suppose it depends on how heavy the mix is. 👍
@GuysPlayingWithTools I have a lawn boy 2 cycle mower so I was being funny on it but I have ran it in a Briggs and Stratton it actually made it run better for some reason
I have seen this happen more than I dare to guess. Easy peesy (as you would say). Have a wonderful week Bill. How's the house shopping going?
I am shopping long distance this week. 😁 We are in St Lucia enjoying the sunshine. (Not looking at houses here)
I have burned tons of 2-stroke mix in push mowers. unless it's tons of oil it won't really smoke.
I wondered about that I might have to try different mix to see where it stops
I burn 50:1 in 4 cycles a lot. No issues here. Their mix must of been extremely rich in oil.
@zxc30738 Do you get any smoke at 50:1? I am not sure what he was running in this one, but you are right. It looked thick in the carb
@GuysPlayingWithTools zero smoke. I use Lucas oil semi syn. Mixed 80-85ml to 1gal of gas.
That's about 50:1. I am going to run this mower at 59:1 next week, just out of curiosity.
@GuysPlayingWithTools I'm no rocket scientist but a leaky exhaust valve and worn rings may contribute to more smoke.
@zxc30738 You are right. When they smoke, the first thing I look for is overfilled oil, then really thin oil and then the rings and valve issues. 👍
You like them Echo's don't you 🤩
I do! 🙂
You have the cleanest shop
Thanks, for me, it's the only way. You never lose tools of they are always in their place.
Nice one Bill
@DarwenDigital24 Thanks, I love old Echos. They are just about bulletproof
Can you do a video using the ultrasonic and the proper way to clean a carb with it.
I have thought about that one but always thought it would look like a review, and I turn down review offers from companies almost daily. I guess I could do one that includes what I look for in an ultrasonic and how to use them, and hide the brand name.(I think everyone has seen it by now though LOL) If you are getting started with one, email me at bill.cell@charter.net and I will call so we can talk about it. 🙂
Neighbor had a clogged screen and I let him fix it on my tailgate with my tools and some Stihl gas/oil. Ran fine. Had snow flurries this a.m. Sun and wind now. Stay warm!
I was completely sure this one was going to be a clogged screen, it had all the symptoms. I have a video on a 210 coming up. maybe next week... It is doing something I have never seen before, it runs without a primer bulb
@@GuysPlayingWithTools It just runs bvecause it knows it can. Happy weekend Will Billium! And Overseer!
@lewiemcneely9143 I guess? I have never seen anything like it. My weekend starts in Dallas and ends in St Lucia, so I am sure it will be a fun weekend. 🙂
@@GuysPlayingWithTools Gopher it, Pal! You deserve it if your supervisor says you do! I'll vote for you but I'm goofy. She'll take that into consideration I bet!

Awesome fix once again Bill. I LOVE your shirt as well, it made me laugh. Have a wonderful weekend my YT friend.
That's one of my favorites too 🙂 I grab every funny t shirt I see, it drives my wife nuts
Hey i did my oil drain is it normal for some metal flakes in the oil.
@jerberkrell815 During break-in, it's normal. I usually run a short break in(10 or 15 minutes), then change oil and do a longer break in(1/2 hour or so) just to get the initial flakes out faster.
@GuysPlayingWithTools thx
I have watched and rewatched but I’m still not understanding how moving that ‘catch or ‘pawl’ out further has corrected the issue. No worries, glad it worked out for you.
The teeth on the pawl wear over time, eventually reaching a point where it doesn't catch very well. It's symmetrical, so you can flip it and use the other side, which still has good teeth. You are doubling the life of the pawl that way. Let me know if that makes sense of it. 👍
I do get the concept of pawl not catching and moving it out further to avoid the rounded off edges of the teeth. What I do not understand is how this makes a difference in WHEN the pawl catches, ie. at the END OF THE REEL vs catching more effectively the entire way through the movement of the hose.

@atoiler1389 gotcha. 🙂 The spring gets tighter as it gets to the end and you will get a bit of flex in the parts on 99% of them so it may work fine half way out, but not catch at all towards the end where the spring is at its tightest.
@@GuysPlayingWithToolsNw I think I understand! Thank you for your patience

4:25 that diaphragm sounds like it was made by Pringles.

Yeah sure is faster to slap new one, good idea to fix old one and have it ready next time
It's a lot more work to rebuild and a 5 minute job to replace one. For the average guy that doesn't work on them often, it's the way to go
Wow, that is one long saw. Great repair Bill, you should get a nice return on that one.
It's for cutting the neighbors firewood. Lol I see about one of these a year, they usually go really fast
The little plug that you just made? I didn’t not see you make a little plug. I wish you would have elaborated on the tubing. Is the tubing closed off at one in? If so, you should mention that.
@TheBucktrot1 I think I mentioned that you can get one at an auto parts store cheaply. I used a piece of tubing and made one by heating and crimping one end. This was done a couple of years ago, I was still learning what to include and not include in videos.
Ok I approve the Brake cleaner the Hart bits but definitely not the 2 cans of ...........😱🤣🍩
@@bigsonslawncare 🤣
Nice job Bill, they were sure proud of that rebuild kit.
The bad part is that they claim to be oem and they aren't. 🙄
Imagine that
@Big_Johns no kidding 😅
@GuysPlayingWithTools and that's how they get us 😂😂
For sure 😕
Most of the Poulan Pro stuff is good, and they tend to sell quickly. 👍
@@Shawnee.Hills.Small.Engine It sounded really strong, I am sure it will be gone by the weekend
While I was still working I borrowed a Stihl pole saw for about 15 minutes to trim up a couple of small poplars. It took 2 days to get all the brush down to the burn pit. Now the poplars are gone and my trimming days are over. Happy week and stay warm!
I haven't used one, but I am thinking about trying this one out for fun. Maybe I will make some long-distance firewood. 🤣
@@GuysPlayingWithTools It does it very quickly!
Bill, I bet you didn't have any trouble selling the polesaw. I never see those here but I see used Stihls for sale and they want big coin for them! Thanks for the video. I've been getting snowblowers ready for that dreaded white stuff. 😢❄️🌬
They usually go in a day, but this one is still here. It wants me to go out and cut some branches, I guess . Lol
Hello brother Bill 😊 thanks for sharing buddy 👍
I love it when I get something different to play with, even if it's the same motor as a weedeater 🙂
@GuysPlayingWithTools I agree brother 😊
That's exactly what I was looking for. I just replaced the Carburetor last year after 20 years. Its been a good mower with only routine maintenance and cleaning. Last cut and this is exactly what happened. Thank you 😊
It works just about every time. It's all about breaking the rust free. I hope it works for you too 👍
Why so condescending
If it sounded that way, I am sorry. It definitely isn't intended to be. For me, people working on their own equipment are my kind of people, and I feel like I am talking to friends when I do videos.
going to be doing a video on this item.. what solution to you use for your ultrasonic
I use 10 to 20% Pine Sol, and the rest is plain tap water. It's got a lot of positives, cleans well, makes the shop smell good, doesn't stain aluminum, non-flammable, less hazardous than carb cleaner, etc...
@@GuysPlayingWithTools thank you, how often do you change it out? Do you leave it in the US all the time or empty it after each use?
@NewHopeCutzandLawnCare I leave it until it's cloudy. I usually get from 3 to 8 carbs through it before changing. It depends on how good i am about cleaning the outside of the carbs before putting them in.
It's a poulan pro BVM200VS
Pleaseeee
Can you help me?
Mine won't start it has New gas and a sparkplug the carburetor is clean but Just wont start
We can try! Start by seeing if it kicks with starter fluid. But a couple of questions first... Do you know its history? If it was yours last time it ran, that's the interesting part. If it got regular gas without oil, you would know. Did it sit for a while? Gas goes bad after a couple of months. Let me know 👍
Ya. Right. Needed to remove the brake rotor, drum brake. I did all that, got a 4 bolt puller, cranked until the rim was bent, used almost a whole propane tank, LOTS of Blaster ... Nope.
I do a lot of go karts off camera, and I get stuck wheels all the time. I have only seen one(so far) that hammering, spraying, and the 3 jaw wouldn't budge. Hammering or in first "almost* always works. If you are anything like me, it's frustrating as $##% when you get one like that.
@@GuysPlayingWithTools My son told me to give up and he welded the old brake drum permanently ! Someone had put a 1 1/4 drum on a 1" shaft ... Soon it will be too cold and wet anyway so maybe over the winter ... I grew up in Minnesota and swore off ANY muffler work and most under-car things. SALT ! But THANKS for what you do !!
@stevejette2329 I shake my head when I see stuff like that. We are considering a move to the Midwest, probably Indiana. I decided I want a winter car that I don't mind driving on salted roads when we get whenever we end up
@@GuysPlayingWithTools hmmm .. Indiana ... ya ... There are things one could do that I did not know. Stainless bolts, routine maintenance, two cars ... OR let the garage guys do it ...
@stevejette2329 I moved from Indy to Texas around 20 years ago. When I lived there. I had a K5 that I called my 6000 pound snow mobile. 🤣
Bill, i warned you about taking those carbs off with a 2-pound hammer as you may damage the carb! Lol. 😂 You seem to have good luck with aftermarket carbs. 👏👍📽🇺🇲
I don't see carbs with dents in them very often. People can be rough with their toys. I do get the occasional bad carb. Maybe 1 in 50. When I get one, it's just about always the fuel gaskets flipped, and you can tell because they don't prime.
Hey bill. Want some snow. Great job on that one
I don't think it would last long. It's cooled off quite a bit, but 73 is still a bit warm for snow. 🤣
I have torn up so many of those Grommets😣
Every time I do one with the camera running, I think, "This is gonna make me look clumsy"
