Guys playing with tools

This channel is for the guy working in his garage on his own equipment. You don't need to be a mechanic or own a hundred tools to take care of 99% of the reasons your equipment won't start. I do my best to avoid tools that most guys(and ladies) don't have.

How to swap a lawnmower motor
It's a lot easier than you might think and there are only a couple things to watch for.

Re jetting a GoPowerSports Lifan 212
มุมมอง 15514 วันที่ผ่านมา
It ran OK with the stock carb and jets but I wanted more than "OK". Jetting the carb is easy and fast and it's the first step towards getting more power out of a Go Kart or Minibike motor. The next step is exhaust, followed by a low restriction air filter setup. Thanks for watching! If this helped, SUBSCRIBE! It's free and it helps us make more (and better) videos. Is taking plug wire off when reassembling for safety only?
I had the wire off and the plug out on this one because it failed testing, and I didn't put the plug back in. Modern mowers *will not start* without holding he safety bar down. The ignition is grounded, and there is an engine brake on the flywheel, preventing it from starting. This is common misinformation that drives me crazy. The blade can jump a bit on the compression stroke. Wear gloves and you are good to go. 🙂
If your wheel is not rusted you can't do this video. A rusted wheel takes more than a few hits on a socket.
It was intended to show technique. It's how I get wheels off when they are stuck, and it works nearly every time. You are right, more rust=more time hammering on it.
What is the part number for the part that was replaced?
It's Briggs part #5021K and it includes the diaphragm, spring and retainer. 👍
Your channel is full of potential! 📈 With some improved SEO, I’m sure it would attract a bigger audience. Let me know if you'd like a free report on how to do that!
I appreciate it, but I kinda like it just the way it is
Awesome revival mini bike video. $50 on Amazon can get you a real nice torque conver kit complete. Unlike GPS where things are over priced.
Thanks 👍 I had a torque converter sitting on the shelf but I was trying to keep it under budget and most people buying something like this don't know the difference. I live around the corner from GPS so... no shipping costs. They are really fun people there, nearly all of them are racers.
@@GuysPlayingWithTools Well there's a difference for sure. Lol there not far from me either. There customer service is another story 😂
@MinibikeAbe-89 I have always had good experiences with them. I know things can go wrong but they have covered 1or 2 bad orders for me with no problems, even when they told me it was wrong while I was buying it and I did it anyway 🤣
@@GuysPlayingWithTools A wise man once said "as a racer if your not lying, cheating, or stealing you ain't winning" 😭😂
@MinibikeAbe-89 I raced when I was younger, and I never did any of those things (or never got caught anyway) 🤣
I think that’s the first engine swap I’ve watched on TH-cam. Happy new year
Did it look pretty easy? (I think it's easy)
@ very easy. Anytime I’ve done it , it’s been straight forward
@almclean4835 It's pretty much bolt for bolt 4 times with a possible blade adapter. This is as complicated as I have ever seen
Toro did EVERYTHING correct with those mowers including the self propell, belt guard, ect. They're built like tanks. I'd much source a 25mm crank engine but still useable none the less.
I agree 100%, they are great frames. I am a huge fan of the Briggs Quantum but(believe it or not) the old Tecumseh had a bigger crank.
@GuysPlayingWithTools 1in/25mm x 3-5/32", 3/16" keyway, Tapped 7/16-20
@SmallEngineNut You know this motor well. I like Tecumseh motors enough, but not enough to bother with one that has a broken rod, and whatever else it took with it on the way out 👍
Good video Bill. Do you plan to fix the Tecumseh, or keep it for parts?
I have it away with the gray frame. If I rebuilt the motor, it would still be an old Tecumseh lol
Best part no broken bolts 👍
I broke one taking the old motor off, but it was scrap anyway. 😁
I thought I was watching Bruce Pender for a minute. Jack stand, Pender Lift, looks great Bill!
Bruce told me I needed that lift for 6 months before I got it, it's a game changer. 🙂
I swapped a Brigge for a Kawasaki. The mounting bolts fit but that was all. Crank was even different sizes. Interesting swapp and used what I had. You too, seems like.
Yeah, the adapter was too long on the Quantum and the Tecumseh had a smaller shaft. Still an easy swap
@@GuysPlayingWithTools Briggs and Kawasaki are opposite on the carb and exhaust side. Had some figguring to do to keep from burning the plastic chute off on the Snapper it went on. Guess it's still running fine but not here.
@lewiemcneely9143 no news is good news. 🙂
@@GuysPlayingWithTools Right! Toots is home from the girls day gone so no bail boney to collect. We husbands always have to ask each other if we still have some in reserve.
@lewiemcneely9143 🤣Yes we do
Gotta love those quantum engines they are real work horses. Happy New Year Bill!
Yeah they are. This mower got the best of both worlds
You put the blade on upside down. Why didn’t you just use the pulley/ blade adapter from the red engine?
Guilty, I caught it later. I wanted to use the adapter from the blown motor but It was a smaller shaft and different keyway.
A blown Briggs and Stratton engine the question is was it the plastic carburetor style 😂
It was a Tecumseh, you don't see those blown very often
@@GuysPlayingWithToolsthey almost always blow because of low oil taking Uncle Rodney out for dinner.
is the blade on upside down?
Yeah, guilty! I was too caught up in thinking about the adapter and all the other details
Bill, your not the only guy that has done that! (Just ask me how I know). 😉
@@rogermcdonald1607 I didn't think anything of it, I was busy worrying about all the other details and making sure it was safe. @!%$@!# happens LOL
It looked to me like you put the blade on upside down. But hey, what do I know, could be my old eyes???
I am editing this because you were right, I was thinking too much about ground clearance and everything and missed it on the checklist! I am going out to flip it now, even though it's in storage until Spring
Only problem I run into sometimes is getting the pulley off! They like to fight back 🤣
I had to use the puller to get the adapter off the motor I threw away, that's a 3 doughnut job every time
@@GuysPlayingWithTools gotcha👍🏾
Hope you have a happy new year
@almclean4835 Happy New Year to you and yours too 🥳
I want to see you walk a wheelie on it. 🤣👍
@@Big_Johns I don't heal like I used to 🤣
LoL Bill, I know the feeling brother.
@Big_Johns I flipped the blue 212 minibike in a field a couple of months ago, I had full gear on, and it still hurt a LOT 🤣
🤣🤣 Yep, we're not 12 anymore.
@Big_Johns No we aren't. Age taught me to have fun that doesn't require a trip to the emergency room. 🙄🤣
Yep that chain was about as rusty as I've ever seen wow ! Those folks a Go -Power Sports sure have it all eh ?
I was surprised at how stretched it was, the new chain was the same size and tight. Having GPS 10 miles away is great, I see them at least once a week.
Plug that we made? What plug
@wallerbryan It was late, and I didn't want to run to the auto parts store for a 1/4 ID plug, so I heated up a rubber tube and pinched off the end. It made an impromptu plug 👍
Bill, you can tell that minibike sat out in the elements for some of its life. I like the clothes hanger wire on the jack shaft gear! 👏🔧🇺🇸
I am pretty sure it sat and then they tried to get it running, the giveaway is the crazily stretched chain. The new one had the same number of links and was tight.
Very cool Bill, I am really impressed with Predator motors! Happy New Year to you and yours!
I have 2 sitting on the shelf waiting for the next place to put them and 2 go karts on the trailer for this week... It's gonna be a fun week
@larryz24 They are a good engine and harbor freights just had a one day sale on the 212cc for $89 and change!
That's where the 2 on the shelf came from 😁
Nice toy for someone!!
It's perfect for bouncing around offroad, lots of bottom end and big tires.
That chain is definitely rusty but you can get it fixed up and running again Bill 💵💵
The short one was stretched beyond hope so I replaced it. 👍
Nice one Bill
It went really well. I was sure it would fight harder than it did 🙂
You and your BEAGLES shirt. Hope all is well and you got what you wanted. Thanks Williamus!
Everybody loves the Beatles! 😁 You can tell I spend too much time in the garage making videos, one of my presents was a new tire bead blaster. LOL I have everything I need to change little(big?) tires now!
@@GuysPlayingWithTools Your Sweetie is taking care of you! Your garage time is well spent!
I look forward to it every day. 🙂
@@GuysPlayingWithTools I'd dare say you would!
@lewiemcneely9143 I have what might be the easiest go-kart project yet on the floor now. I can't wait till morning. 😁
Toro is a premium machine. Hang on to it until you can find an engine with the same shaft dimensions to swap it with. They put those Tecumseh's on just about everything. You can even transfer over the red cover.
I have a Yard Machines mower with a pitiful deck and a Briggs flathead. It volunteered it's motor on the next video. 👍
Thank you for a great video. I clicked on this video because I bought this same Binet at Harbor Freight and it is not sealed at the bottom where the media is. Did you have the same problem and if so how did you address it? Thank you again.
When I got mine, I was also worried about leaks. Adding the air system keeps a vacuum inside when it's running, so nothing leaks out. It's a negative pressure system that way so leaks would come in rather than out. I added the vent on the top for more air flow, that helps keep the flying dust to a minimum while it's rubbing and makes it easier to see what you are doing inside.
Im late but mad max for sure
I went Mad Max, it ended up being a really cool toy. 👍
There's probably more than $20 in parts on that.
I pulled the motor and put a Quantum on it, the rest was worth saving. 👍
Be a good video on how to swap motors. A good used quantum will do.
We think alike. The next video is exactly that. 🙂
Even though he said he's been doing this for years there's no pull cord you can tell by the resistance by turning the blade if the engine is good or not
Be sure you disconnect the spark plug wire before spinning any blade!
It was cold outside, and I dropped the ball on this one. I rarely see a Tecumseh with a broken connecting rod.
Good point. The engine brake and safety wire should prevent it from starting, but it could kick during the compression stroke, and that can be enough to get hurt. (The plug was out for the video). 👍
A hole cut the cord off so a person would just think that it broke and wouldn't know the rod was broken. Dirty bass turd.
An old guy in the neighborhood took the engine off a mower like that and used the frame and wheels as a cart to take his garbage cans and yard waste barrels to the curb from his backyard. Back in the days before the garbage collector provided wheeled bins to put refuse in.
I pulled the motor and am using a Quantum motor from a mower with an ugly frame. I bolted the motor to the ugly frame and put it online for free.
It happens...not always the carb mate lol
This one is guilty of being a Tecumseh 🤣
@GuysPlayingWithTools but you say it's always the carburetor lol
@themowerman Ok, let's see.. the carb leaned out and locked the mower? (the lack of oil was just a coincidence) 🤣
This guy is awesome, he helped me troubleshoot my mower issues online, very helpful and has an excellent channel.
Thanks 😁
Genius!
Thanks. I have done about 20 of them since this video came out, and it works every time without eating up my fingers. I👍
Poor old Tecumseh. Somebody let the oil get low and Uncle Rodney has left the chat. It didn’t upgrade the block to run Windows 11? Usually it does.
🤣 I like the body but the motor is done motoring for sure. I was seriously thinking about taking the Quantum off a mower I did a few weeks ago. It's a great motor on a yardman(yuck) frame
@ Quantum is always a good choice 👍
@haneyoakie14 it's on an ugly frame anyway, maybe I will toss it on a better one tomorrow
Nice job Bill and I don't know if you should be hanging around Al, he's a bad influence for sure. 🤣🤣 He's almost as bad as ole Big Krispy. 😲
All made me get a little dangerous, that's what buddies are for 🤣

Today you got your way, and it was 🧑🎄
Your edger is missing the engine pulley guard (part# 2027) and the cutterhead pulley guard (part# 2035).
Yeah, when I get them, those parts are almost always gone. People change the belts, and that's usually the end for those guards. 🙄
