It also makes sense to have Shorty be the culprit because the actor who voiced Johnny Rolle/Dwayne Powers in this game is the same actor who voiced Shorty.
Dwayne is an actor, and so probably better at disguise than Shorty. But it would have been good if Dwayne's return had been foreshadowed in an another game, as Shorty's seems to have been. But I don't think that was deliberate on HER's part, they just reused some animation.
One that always bothered me: El Toro says the pulley puzzle stone’s weight in kilograms, but the kg wasn’t invented until after the French Revolution, in 1792. Also the voice actor chose to use Andy Jason’s voice for Dwayne - why!?? Too bad he didn’t remind us that whales rule as he locked us up in the hole :(

As someone who still hasn't played stay tuned for danger yet, this made the reveal even more confusing as I had no idea who this fool was and one of the main reasons most people play Nancy Drew is to figure out who the culprit is, and this game just comes out and spoils one of them, especially in the game that's hard to get nowadays.

#72.5: Australian drivers licenses don't list height and weight, and if they did, they DEFINITELY would not list them in feet, inches and pounds. Like 90% of the world Australia uses the metric system. Nancy has traveled the world enough to know that metric is the norm, and should realise that is is suspicious.
Omg this is so interesting and surprising to me haha I couldn't finish this game unfortunately... So that's kinda sad I didn't get to that point but it was too insufferable to continue
George was my favorite character from the ND books -- the brave, sassy tomboy who was willing to put herself in life-or-death situations multiple times for Nancy's sake. So seeing her so sidelined and so utterly useless in this game -- and even lacking that sassy personality they'd portrayed so well in previous games -- was just tragic. George deserved better.

Despite its flaws, this game is nowhere near as bad as Secret of the Scarlet Hand! It is too bad that this was my very first Nancy Drew game, but I still really liked it! The puzzles are fun, they just need more suspects! Also, the map in the closet was planted there by Dwayne to cast suspicion on the Gibsons.
I wonder how they did decided that Dwayne would be the one to bring back? Was it just because he was the oldest culprit in the series? (Because Mitch Dillon doesn't really count). To me it made sense to use Dwayne, because a) he was the farthest in the past, b) he was the most over-the-top nutty, and so the best candidate to pull off a stunt like this, and c) he was associated with the acting profession. But it would have been nice if they could get back the same voice. That's the part they did wrong. Maybe they were already thinking in terms of eventually remastering Stay Tuned For Danger, and changing the voice?
Honestly, if they were looking to bring back past villains seeking revenge, I would've preferred MULTIPLE villains working together, united in their hatred for Nancy Drew (and maybe all secretly planning to betray the others and make off with the treasure themselves).
The problem with bringing villains back is the time frame. Since Nancy is eternally 18, all of these games take place in the same year. So there's no time for anybody to go to jail, serve their time, and get back out.
I love your theory of them thinking about STFD Remastered, but this game came out before SCK Remastered. I agree with you, though. The guy who plays Dwayne in this game (and other characters in the series too) is a good actor, but he just doesn't match the original voice close enough. (He looks different, too; they should have given him darker hair.)
Late on saying this, but just finished replaying the game and noticed Dwayne said he was going to be an up and coming actor even though he had his own talent agency! He was never a mentioned actor in the second game if I am remembering correctly!

Also, what the heck was with that license - listing height and weight? Listing them in feet and pounds? Nancy's traveled the world enough to know that most places use metric.
I have a couple of sins to add to the list. #1: Why would Carson Drew allow his daughter to go on a "vacation" before checking if it was the real deal? The only reason that Dwayne's plan even worked is because Bess, George, and Nancy (you know, the one who has solved multiple mysteries) were all gullible enough to not even question the authenticity of the sweepstakes vacation, and the fact that Carson didn't even bother taking the time to check on it is inexcusable, especially since the guy is a lawyer and probably used to dealing with a whole lot of scams. Of course, there's also the possibility that Nancy didn't tell her dad that she was heading to the Bahamas, which is another issue, entirely. #2: Finding the actual treasure in this game (the one that's hidden in the secret room at the end) is completely optional. Um... what? I know that at the end of the game, Bess is supposed to represent a treasure, being Nancy's friend and all that, but seriously, after all of that hard work, I'd like my treasure now, please! Besides this, I think it also wouldn't hurt to look through Nancy's journal for some sins. For example, in Phantom of Venice, in the Suspects section, Nancy says how it probably isn't a crime for Margharita to hate her, but it should be. I'm sorry, when did Nancy become an arrogant, self-absorbed little snot? I understand, it can be frustrating for someone to be rude to you, but that doesn't excuse you from acting like everyone should praise you just because you deem yourself to be super important. Just saying. Anyway, great job as always, Arglefumph. Can't wait for Waverly Academy!
I really disliked their choice of culprit. We only really saw duane once in his original game. There are soooo many better options. Shorty, emily, yani, or literally ANYONE ELSE! The second game is obscure. Not everyone had played it.

I finally played and beat this one the other day just so I could say that I've played and beaten then all but it is worse than Kapu Cave.
