    I recently had a total hysterectomy with oophorectomy because of endometriosis, fibroids and adenomyosis and am so glad I watched your channel prior to my surgery. I plan to continue to do so since I am still unsure on wether or not I want hrt. I was told by my nurse that I wouldn’t need it since I was already considered post-menopause at 46 years old. I went into menopause right after having an endometrial ablation, apparently the one ovary I had left decided it didn’t want to work as well anymore. I just got the results in from blood work prior to my surgery and found out my estrogen was low yet testosterone free was sky high and above range. Now that I have zero ovaries I’m wondering if I should take anything or not. I am one week out from robotic surgery and was told we would address HRT in six weeks. So far I’m feeling better than I did before surgery with exception of night time hot flashes but they aren’t as bad as before. I have lost 11 pounds in 8 days so far. I’m so afraid of gaining any back and want to continue to lose it as I’m 80 pounds over weight. I just don’t know if should risk it with hrt so I’m going to inform myself as much as possible by watching even more if your videos. You are such a good teacher!! I can’t thank you enough for all that you do for so many women out there. You are legendary.

    I went through early menopause at age 41 (I gave birth to my first and only child at age 39) - my mother took DES back in the 1950's and this caused the early menopause. Then at age 55 I had a full hysterectomy - everything was removed (I saw the surgical report). Prior to this time I had PCOS, FIbroids and Endometrosis so severely I could NEVER have kids and needed help with Hormone Treatments for almost two years to have my only child. My hormones STILL appear to be screwed up and I am NOT being told what is "normal" and what is "not normal" for my hormone test results amounts. To be honest, they seem quite high for someone like me. Estrogen 50.3 and it was a lot lower 3 years ago at 33.0 and, my Testosterone 58.3 - just 3 years ago was a very high 76.6 and I am now 68 yrs. old !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TSH has been all over the place as well...up and down like crazy !!!! Is this the effect of PCOS regardless of total hysterectomy??? Loads of controversy over this subject. Severe hair loss, loss of ends of eyebrows and thinning of eyelashes too. Be great to get a full answer.

    Your props explain so much and yet it's so hilarious too. How you chop off the uterus and leave the cervix to show a partial hysterectomy just makes me laugh. 😂
    This all sounds familiar. I remember you going over all of this earlier in your videos.
    Sounds to me like a full hysterectomy truly is a misconception for us all including the doctors.
    Five years ago my OBGYN told me verbally she was performing a partial hysterectomy. What I truly had was a total hysterectomy from what you have already taught me and today's video. She removed my uterus and my cervix but left the rest and called it a partial hysterectomy.
    It sent me into complete surgical menopause. It was horrible.
    Had I known all of this 5 years ago I would have prepared much better.
    So glad to have found you. I guessed the questions all correct because I am watching these in order. 😊

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Unfortunately, when the public has a universal misconception about something, the professionals just fall in line with it because they don't have the time to correct it. It's shameful, really. But there are many doctors who use the wrong terminology knowing full well that it's wrong.

    Hi Dr Taylor, you are right about your friends telling you you are wrong! After your earlier videos explaining the different procedures, I had friends telling me ‘no, that’s wrong, the terminology must have changed over the years’ or ‘that might be what it means in the USA, but it’s different in Australia’. Are these surgical terminologies the same worldwide? And if our mother or grandmother had a Total Hysterectomy in the 1950s, did it mean removal of only the uterus and cervix back then?
    Thank you so much for answering all these questions. I always read everyone’s questions because sometimes you put so much valuable information in the answers!

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The terminology has never been any different anywhere in the entire world. That just goes to show you have woefully uneducated and unaware women are.
      Can you imagine letting someone operate on you and not know what they removed? It happens all the time, all because of these misconceptions.
      That's why I teach you directly. I want YOU to know what's right.

    I wish I saw your videos prior to my emergency total hysterectomy with salpingectomy. My question is (I was told I may go into meno earlier due to lack of blood flow to my ovaries) If this is the case how will I know? My vagina has dried up, my skin is dry/crawling, my gums have started changing, pimples galore, sagging face, peach fuzz and heat intolerance not really flashes, unless I am nervous or layered, then I tend to overheat a bit. I suffered massive fibroids (uterus was around the size of a 5 month pregnancy I was told) from estrogen dominance and now I am still moody but dry! LOL! My doc said that most women go into meno post surgery within 5 yrs. but it is not worth checking as my hormones will be up and down. I was 47 when I had my surgery, and it was one year ago. I wish I could find a doctor that will help post hyst but honestly they disappear after this type of surgery. Thank you for your videos! Love them all and I am now watching them. My question is can you tell when you are in menopause IF you have had a total hysterectomy?

    SO interesting! Here I thought I was pretty savvy, that I knew a fair amount about menopause. I would have said, a total hysterectomy included removing the ovaries! I won’t forget this! Way back in December, 1974 I had a C-section because I had a large dermoid cyst on my left ovary. Thankfully I was blessed with my wonderful son, my left ovary was removed, I thought I would have trouble getting pregnant again, but that right ovary did it’s job! A sweet baby girl in 1978. 💜. I’ve read different theories on dermoid cysts, I’ve often wondered if I was born with it on my ovary, or did it develop during my first pregnancy? Either way....I sure miss the hormones I once made! Lol. Thank you for giving us women a platform to share, for loving us as you do. You’re the best! I love you!

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I love that you're learning all this stuff!
      A "Dermoid Cyst" is something that any woman can develop. But, they're not common. Your ovaries contain all the cell types that are contained within a Dermoid Cyst. Most of the time, they never develop. In some women, they do.
      So, you were't born with the cyst itself But you were born with the potential for the cyst to develop.

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Please consider scheduling a consultation with me before your procedure I will teach you absolutely everything so that you have no surprises. Peace of mind is everything.
      Here's how a consultation works:
      1) You would schedule a one-on-one consultation at my website, MenopauseTaylor.ME, choosing a time that is convenient for you. I do consultations on Skype, FaceTime. Facebook Messenger, What’s App, and the phone. (But very shortly, I’ll have my own video platform embedded in my website.)

      2) I would send you an email to confirm that you are scheduled for the stated time, and invite you to send me as much information about yourself as you please. You can make it brimming with details and tell me about your reproductive life, any gynecologic problems you've had, your symptoms of peri-menopause, and your symptoms of post-menopause. You can include all your fears, concerns, and goals for your menopause management. You may also send me any labs, mammogram results, bone density results, etc. that you would like me to include in designing your protocol. If you want to adhere to a certain category of management options (herbs or diet & lifestyle, or whatever), you should tell me that. I will give you a 5-day deadline for sending all materials, and will not accept anything after that date.
      3) I'll get busy creating a document that gives you all the education you need to understand absolutely everything, points out the pros and cons of each option, and tailors it all to YOU, using the information you have provided. The document will be loooooong. Most are over 30 pages.
      4) I will send you the document by email 72 hours before your consultation. You will benefit greatly by reading it in advance. Light bulbs will go off like crazy, and if you're like most women, you'll feel that you've already gotten your money's worth.
      5) During your consultation, we will review the document and address any issues you want in order to fine tune everything and determine your best options. I'll tell you exactly how to find the right kind of professional, how to have the conversation in order to get what you want, and the nuances of things like guidelines and insurance. I leave nothing unaddressed.
      6) You will go to a professional of your choosing in order to get the actual hormones or whatever you choose to use.
      7) After the first consultation, I'll hold your hand (forever if you want me to). In other words, you'll be able to schedule mini-consultations (30-minute, in addition to full consultations) whenever you need to. I'll keep records of your situation. Most women schedule mini-consultation whenever they go to the doctor and don't understand what he or she said, or why. I translate. I make sense of everything. Most schedule mini-consultation whenever they have a new test and they want me to explain the results. And all schedule mini-consultation whenever their situation changes and they need to re-weigh and re-balance their options.
      The time you spend with me will make everything about working with any other professional so easy. And they will love the fact that you have an actual education rather than a bunch of misconceptions that you got from the Internet. If your initial hormone regimen is not right, you'll want to consult with me before going to your doctor. I can prepare you for what to expect and what to request.
      So, that's my role. And nobody else on earth does this kind of thing but me. So, I hope you schedule a consultation and let me hold your hand (figuratively).
      I hope to meet you soon!

    How is the closed part stitched aft a full hysterectomy
    how long should it take to heal.
    What are things to help it heal.

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      When you write "Full Hysterectomy," I assume you mean "Total Hysterectomy."
      The top of your vagina is sewn closed. You don' have to do anything to help it heal. Your only restriction is that you will not be able to put anything at all (penis, tampon, your fingers) in your vagina for 6 weeks. You will have a discharge that is normal due to the healing and the dissolving of the stitches over time.

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The only instance in which any surgery to your fallopian tubes has any effect on your menopause is if the blood supply to your ovaries (which are semi-attached to you fallopian tubes) is impaired partially or completely.

    Thank you for the information! Is the vagina surgically closed after a full hysterectomy? Is it possible to have a prolapsed bladder after a full?

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The top of the vagina is closed at the time of a total hysterectomy.
      But that has nothing to do with prolapse of the bladder. So, you can have any kind of hysterectomy, or no surgery at all and still have prolapse of your bladder.
      If you want me to explain this to you so that you understand exactly what pelvic organ prophase (POP) is and all your options for managing to treating it, I'll can do so in a one-on-one consultation with you. There's a lot you deserve to know.
      If you want a consultation, go to MenopauseTaylor.ME to schedule one. I do them on Skype, FaceTime, and Facebook Messenger.
      You can include all the things you want to cover when you fill out the form, and then send me any labs or tests you've had. That way, I can incorporate everything into the session. I'll create a personalized document addressing all your concerns, and send it to you at least one day before our session. That way, you'll have time to read it in advance. I'm two years post menopausal and I want to take estrogen until the day I die. Problem is, I still have my uterus. I know that I need to take progesterone to balance the estrogen so I don't develop uterine cancer, but I really don't want to take progesterone. Why the hell do I need my uterus for at 53? I only used it once, won't be using it again. Now, it seems like nothing more than a ticking time bomb. Is there any way I can convince a surgeon to remove it for me so I can take estrogen alone? How can I make that happen?

    • @MenopauseTaylor

      This is precisely the kind of thing for which I do one-on-one consultations. There are ways to get what you want. but you have to know how to approach our doctor and you have to balance your benefits and risks. No two women are alike, and addressing your situation requires tailoring all the facts specifically to YOU.
      I'm in the business of educating you about everything you need to know and do in order to get exactly what you want for managing your menopause your way. So, here's how a consultation works:
      1) You would schedule a one-on-one consultation at my website, MenopauseTaylor.ME, choosing a time that is convenient for you. I do consultations on Skype, FaceTime. Facebook Messenger, What’s App, and the phone.
For instance, if you want to adhere to a certain category of management options (herbs or diet & lifestyle, or whatever), you should tell me that.
In other words, you'll be able to schedule mini-consultations (15-minute or 30-minute, in addition to full consultations) whenever you need to.

      Jessica,
      This is the kind of thing that warrants a one-on-one consultation. I can help you a lot, but not in this comment box for such a vast topic. There's much more to it than you think.

For instance, if you want to adhere to a certain category of management options (herbs or diet & lifestyle, or whatever), you should tell me that. I would need all these things at least 1 week before your consultation with me.
      3) I'll get busy creating a document that gives you all the education you need to understand absolutely everything, points put the pros and cons of each option, and tailors it all to YOU using the information you have provided. The document will be loooooong. Most are over 30 pages.
      4) I will send you the document by email 48 hours before your consultation. You will benefit greatly by reading it in advance. Light bulbs will go off like crazy, and if you're like most women, you'll feel that you've already gotten your money's worth.
      5) During your consultation, we will review the document and address any issues you want to fine tune everything and determine your best options.
In other words, you'll be able to schedule mini-consultations (15-minute or 30-minute, in addition to full consultations) whenever you need to. I'll keep records of your situation. Most women schedule mini-consultation whenever they go to the doctor and don't understand what he or she said, or why. I translate. I make sense of everything. Most schedule mini-consultation whenever they have a new test and they want me to explain the results. And all schedule mini-consultation whenever their situation changes and they need to re-weigh and balance their options.
      The time you spend with me will make everything about working with any other professional so easy. And they will love the fact that you have an actual education rather than a bunch of misconceptions that you got form the Internet.

    So, what is it called when you get removal of the uterus, cervix, tubes and ovaries? Is there a term to distinguish it from "total" or "complete" hysterectomy?

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ahhh, I can see that you have not watched my videos in order. I presented this in video 8. Please don't sabotage your entire menopause education by watching these videos out of order.
      Removal of your uterus only is a "Partial Hysterectomy.
      Removal of your uterus & cervix is a "Total Hysterectomy.
      Removal of one fallopian tube is a "Unilateral Salpingectomy."
      Removal of one ovary is a "Unilateral Oophorectomy."
      Removal of your uterus, cervix, both fallopian tubes, & both ovaries is a "Total Hysterectomy, Bilateral Salpingo-Oophorectomy."

      On my! You are definitely confused, my dear. Your question reveals a lack of understanding of the basic anatomy of your reproductive tract.
      I can tell that you are not watching my videos in order because I taught you all about the anatomy in the very earliest videos.

    5 years ago I had what my Dr. called a partial hysterectomy bc my ovaries were not removed. My question is: what is the life span of the ovaries after a hysterectomy? Is it true that ovaries shrink as we get older? I had an ultrasound done today due to pain in the ovaries and they couldn’t see the ovaries bc they said it is hard to see them because of the bowels and bc they shrink?

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It all depends on your individual situation, my dear. I can assess yours in a consultation, but I cannot do so in a comment box.
      A "Partial Hysterectomy" means your cervix was not removed. It has nothing at all to do with your ovaries!

    Hi I actually have left ovarian endometrioma which is 7 cm in size. They advised left salpingo oophorectomy. but my incidental MRI pelvis said 2 fibroids one1.5 cm another 1.2 cm fibroid with restricted diffusion ? Early sarcoma. Hence now they advised total hysterectomy. I am 38 years no issues with menses. Only past 6 months cyclical pain due to endometriosis. Very nervous about hysterectomy.

      This is precisely the kind of thing for which I do one-on-one consultations. You definitely need one. I cannot tailor things specifically to you in a comment box. It requires much more information than you can give me here, and you deserve much more information than I can give you here. No two women are alike, and addressing your situation requires tailoring all the facts specifically to YOU. I do them all via online video conferencing. You can schedule at MenopauseTaylor.ME. I look forward to meeting you and helping you.
