    I have a request, if I may. I would love to see a vid or series (however long it would take) explaining the differences in all the different types of pickups (humbucker, single coil, lipstick, p90, hot rail, gold foil, et al) and why a neck pickup is different than bridge, why you slant one or the other or both, etc... all that shit.

If you end up seeing this, I’d be curious to know what the biggest differences are between modern day and vintage pickups. Besides the output rating and construction methods, what makes vintage pickups so “magic”?

    I watched a bunch of these videos last week and meant to comment - I really love the way you explain and discuss and generally chat about the different pickups! Great videos mate!

    Dylan, I'm liking these comparison videos. Also the ones af why the tele sounds like a tele and a strat sounds like a strat.
    2 questiobs for you. Are the humbucker in an h/s/s strat tge same design as a paf? And can you take two fender single coils and smash them together in one case to get a humbucker? Would it be closer to a wide range if you can?

    • @matthewschiavi7353
      @matthewschiavi7353 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      James Crider I have a Aria thinline copy that was obviously modified before I got it. Someone at some point put what I thought was a humbucker in the neck with a tap switch. Years later I opened it up to find that the humbucker was actually 2 single coils that were bolted together. I never knew because it sounded fat and smooth.

  • @TheStacanova
    @TheStacanova 4 ปีที่แล้ว +41

    Hey Dylan,
    Can you do a Filter’Tron Vs PAF breakdown?
    I searched & didn’t see one already, unless I missed it?
    Also, I have a Tele with Seymour Duncan Vintage Stack pickups.
    They sound just like single coils to me, but without the hum, how is this achieved?
    I also don’t understand about their DCR?
    It is 18 for the bridge & 15.8 for the neck, but their actual volume output is nowhere near as loud as either the Gibson Classic 57’s, which are around 8 DCR, for example, or the Tyson Tone Lab P-90’s I have which are 7-8 DCR.
    Why & what does all that mean?
    Thanks!

    • @djmtndew
      @djmtndew 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are humbuckers but stacked coils vs side by side... thats how they kick the hum... im personally not a fan of these Duncan pickups, they are the same pick ups used by D'angelico for their Offset dual "single coil" guitar... tye bradford

    I’ve been playing for 20 years now and have only recently started to take more than a passing interest in how everything actually works in the guitar. Before, especially in the early days, I was happy to just play and enjoy that aspect of it, but as I get older I’m taking much more of an interest in how it all works, especially pickups. This channel has been excellent for learning about that and I’m glad some of the videos popped up in my recommended videos.

    Although it is an “old” video, I like this clear explanation about the difference in the first place, and the fact there is hardly a difference since the reissue’s. Thnx!

    I thought I had already subscribed, but come to find out when you mentioned your analytics I happened to be in that unfortunate grouping. That has been taken care of. There's a great amount of content that I've enjoyed learning about here...keep up the great work!

    I really enjoy your channel. I think the biggest draw for me is your focus on creating a pleasant toxic-free space for people who enjoy guitar. Love what you do, love the videos, love your approach and philosophy. Keep up the great work!
    *fingers crossed it’ll be my lucky day and I win this contest*

    Thank you so much for teaching me something I didn't know I needed to know. Now I want something with wide range humbuckers because it seems like a sound I'd like. In my ignorance I didn't know what the difference was and just ignored Fenders with humbuckers... Live and learn.
