@emilyhope7468 Yes, me too, Emily..its frightening for all the horses 🐎 but to be blind and have to just deal with getting off the trailer and not knowing if it is safe ..but l also imagine the treatment they'd get at auction and going to slaughter..Kory can identify them as they come off the trailer because of his experience he can tell they can't see..and watching Horse Plus and Pony Tales Rescue too l see the blind ones once they de-stress they can have very full lives doing trail rides..they don't just have to be pasture pets..before l started watching these two wonderful organisations l had no idea that a blind horse could be ridden..but of course once they trust their human they know they will guide them with their eyes..that poor Draft with the awful leg infections..and the one with the broken leg..l just don't understand how ANY owner could just firstly leave their horse for months like that and then send them to auction.. Pony Tales has just taken in an owner surrender draft. She is beautiful ..but I've never seen a horse, so lame on all 4 feet. It's clear she is in absolute agony!!
She is BRED !! and only 8 weeks away from foaling..the vet looked at the trays they did and said he'd never seen anything so bad..all her coffin bones are gone..on one foot there is no sign if it at all so she is walking on her ankle bone..they are hoping their farrier..who is the best I've ever seen..can take the shoes off because the nails are obviously making it worse as nothing to attach to..and put soft 'moonboots' on to give her some relief and although a pregnant horse is not supposed to have the painkiller Bute because of the foal he said she has to have it twice daily or he couldn't condone keeping her alive in the pain she's in..but as only 8 weeks to yo..foal should be OK.. God knows how he will get those shoes off as standing on 3 feet is going to be so hard for her.. please think about subscribing to Pony Tales.. They are a full circle of life partner, and they won one of Horse Plus' first competitions and won $10,000.. They're much smaller, obviously, but they do great work..🇬🇧💕🙏✝️💔💔🐎🐎🐴👏🇺🇸

@@kimmarievan-ever6599 I can tell from your comment that you are fully into stopping the horrific treatment of animals, horses for sure. I cry a lot watching both Horse Plus and Pony Tales as well. Two wonderful groups of dedicated people. I wish I were wealthy as I would be donating hefty amounts to them both. Pony Tales really needs a better stock setup now that they are getting in so many drafts. I worry for Paulie, he nearly gets badly injured almost every week! So I say to all who are commenting here, YES, please donate to Pony Tales as well. Even it is only five or ten bucks a month, if enough of us concerned people do that, it adds up . I cried a bunch at today's intake, and I always say prayers for both the animals and the staff.

I know I'm going to be criticized for saying what so many in the farm world know. The large draft horses often come from the Amish farms. This horrific practice of neglect must be stopped. Just like how Tennessee Walking Horses were forced to do Soring. That has been outlawed by the Horse Protection Act. Apparently it doesn't protect horses from cruelty like neglect that causes pain and suffering. We need governments, State & Federal, to use the Animal Welfare Acts to cover horses just like all other farm animals are.

The second draft horse that came up to the vet (one that was biting) was asking Dr. Lydia to please look at him. He's hurting. It's so awful that those draft horses probably lived a life of hard work and to then be tossed like they are trash to be forgotten. Especially the one with the trach. Why put that in and just leave him to suffer. I hate to know I share space in this world with people who are so selfish and really just pure evil. The blind horses broke my heart. I'll donate as much as I can for as long as I can. I just wish I could give more. I'm so impressed with everyone on your staff and thank God for Dr. Lydia. She has a good heart.

But it's a hard road to get there with many obstacles. Big money (the Ranches Association, Jockey Club, and believe it or not many horse associations) is the biggest obstacle. Me, just sitting here and watching and crying sometimes too is devastating and the team is there!!! It is so lovely to hear the kind words you give. The horses do seem to know there are in a safe place now after years of not being cared for physically and mentally.

It’s so sad to see. If it helps at all, when I was an equine vet tech we worked with many Amish farms and they had some of the best kept horses and cared very much about their health, one guy that was a breeder tracked all his horses and had an end-of-life buy back clause. So… they do not ALL have this attitude. But I agree that this happens way, wayyyy too much. 😢

@@AreYouKittenMeRtNow Thank you, vancouvervixen for your comment.
Free Spirit Equestrian just bought a well trained 4 year old mare at auction that came from the Amish and she says that she's one of the best horses she's ever had. I remember seeing another youtube video years ago of a man wanting a well broke harness horse for hauling out felled trees/logs. He couldn't find one in his price range at the Amish auction so his local friend suggested getting one of the younger ones and having an Amish trainer start him. He was able to take some video of what this man was doing but couldn't show his face. The way this man trained the horse was very similar to the way I had some of my horses trained here in the western part of the states. This trainer had learned how to train horses from his father and there was no chasing, yelling or anything like that. Just getting the horse to "join up" as one trainer calls it and helping the horse to understand that his leader was the trainer. Within a week or 2 the horse was ready to hop in the trailer and head back to wherever the owner lived and continue his training with his new owner/leader.
As far as I'm concerned, painting ANY group with a broad brush divides us more that unites us.

You know the sorrel draft horse with the tracheostomy? Imagine this, they were in a caring home, they got vet treatment, had the breathing hole put in, and then something happened to their owner like they went into a hospice and the horses were left on the homestead perhaps with a relative who couldn't care for them properly or a neighbour who only visited once a week. Owner dies and the horses end up be abandoned on the property or sent to aution after months of neglect ... some fate like that would explain the terrible over grown hooves and infected breathing hole and still the presence of the breathing hole in the first place

I don’t see the last act of kindness as a negative. I see it as positive, it ends suffering gives them peace and they are no longer in pain. They also don’t end up shipping and being brutally slaughtered. With the last act of kindness they get to pass with care, kindness, dignity and respect, surrounded by the love they deserve. Yes it’s sad to pass, but in times like these it is better than living.

A bear got into the paddock and the horse tried to jump the coral fence to get away from it and ended up breaking its pelvic bone. My Mom got X-rays of the break and decided to try to allow him to heal. He couldn’t be trained or ridden for two years, but made a full recovery and ended up being rideable and went on to participate in some kind of competitions as a trail rider.
