    Criminal charges need to be filed on people who bring horses with detrimental injuries to auction. It's just awful when good horses are ruined by bad people.

      I'm pretty sure there's rules only horses fit for transport are allowed to go through auctions. The problem is that nobody gives a crap about that.

      The problem with criminal charges is that if there were charges filed then some people would not bring the horses and they would suffer in agony for- how many years- until they just died in the fields 😥

    • @patriciafarran9742
      @patriciafarran9742 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@brotchenmonster Tennessee protects kill buyers.
      One auction house has gone as far as to ban HPHS from attending and buying equines at their auctions.
      Actual slaughter of horses is banned All 50 states but selling them and shipping them out of country to other countries for slaughter is allowed.
      Some states prohibit the sale (at auctions) of horses / equines for the purpose of slaughter but laws are rarely enforced unless someone says something.
      All 50 states are lacking in protection of equines against torture and abuse.
      The only answer I can come up with, is there is A LOT of money to be made buying, trading and shipping equines for slaughter or people wouldn’t be doing it.
      The video of this buyout was $10,000 for HPHS to acquire these equines.
      These poor horses were so broken down, the horse traders who had them probably guessed they wouldn’t make it through another auction or couldn’t travel anymore without dying.
      Tawnee and Jason have been making trips to DC to try and encourage law makers to create laws that protect equines from abuse , and to stop allowing the shipping of American horses for the purpose of selling them to slaughter; but so far, no action by Congress has been made or completed to prevent the abuse of equines.
      There is no good reason for this to continue. This should be a simple bipartisan act for Congress yet they keep dragging their feet.

    I've been horseless now for 20 years this year. It just tears my heart out to see how mistreated so many of these poor broken horses are, when if someone like me had owned them, they'd have been seen by a vet when they were injured, or given relief from their pain so they wouldn't have to suffer for months and years, and they could have passed peacefully in a place they knew, with their person at their side. This has been a really tough episode to watch.
    Thank you Horse Plus for saving these horses from a brutal end in the slaughter pipeline.

    As heartbreaking as it is to get trailers full of horses that several have to be given the last act of kindness, it is a blessing that these sweet horses do not have to endure the long, torturous trip to the slaughterhouse. Big Hugs to everyone who is helping in any way that they can.

    • @htb123
      @htb123 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      But they do have to endure the long, torturous trip back to the "rescue" They should not be transported in this condition all so they can make a drama out of it.

    • @asrotties
      @asrotties 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@htb123 The problem with your statement is.... They are already in the slaughter pipeline when the rescue is able to get them. IF people were responsible for their animals and had any morality, they would have them humanely euthanized themselves, without transporting them. Sadly, many people lack that humanity and they just dump their old, sick horses. It isn't the rescues fault, it is the horse owners fault.

    • @htb123
      @htb123 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@asrotties And the problem with your statement is that you are trying and failing to justify transporting a horse on 3 legs with no hope for hours increasing his pain, fear and suffering when the kind thing would be for him to of been euthanised after the sale. I agree that the owners are horrendous for putting the poor horse in that situation BUT the last owners were the rescue who saw fit to travel a horse who was not fit to travel! They need a better way of sorting the critical, end of life horses who are not fit to travel and ending their suffering before putting them through more pain and suffering, this is not the first time this has happened and the only reason I can see they do this is to create drama clickbait. They need to do better.

    • @amandapeterson3449
      @amandapeterson3449 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @htb123 the rescue doesn't transport them. They are dripped off from whoever is surrendering them and utilizing the buyout program. They know they won't get anything at auction for a broken horse so they bring them here for the buyout money. The rescue doesn't know what state these horses are coming in. They ask people not overload. And I have seen several episode where they try to hide injuries with rugs,wraps etc. It's really quite ignorant to blame the rescue. When it's obvious you don't understand how this program works

    • @htb123
      @htb123 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@amandapeterson3449 Yeah I do. They still transported that poor horse for hours. Edited to say I think they do amazing work but they need to change how they handle end of life horses, that horse should never have been transported after they got him.

I felt like crap when the estate attorney told me we had to get rid of the horses. Please dont think all of the horses in terrible situations are there because of uncaring owners. I bought food, got farrier care & loved on them every day until i was told to stay off the property. We sometimes get our hands tied. I could afford their care but not the legal fees to keep them.

    This organization is so dedicated to the humane treatment of all these horses (and every other animal rescued) I can see it in their eyes and hear it in their voices when they have to give the last act of kindness. And the joy when they know that one can be saved. I am happy to donate. Thank you!!🐎✨🥲

    I wouldnt doubt that the auction is behind the trailer loads of the horse that are coming to you through the buy out. Its sad because your organization needs the money from adoptions to continue to keep you going. How is it that there are soooo many horses on the trailers that cannot be saved. Its just this sick feeling in my stomach that I believe the people from the auction are behind this. I love what you all are doing to help these poor helpless animals. And I pray that you can continue to do this wonderful work with your hearts. God bless you all..

      I had the same thought, reflected in my posted comment. That people are sending Horse Plus horses they know need the Last Act of Kindness so they don't need to incur the cost themselves.

    There should be some way to use the brand to track the owner and hold them accountable for the obvious neglect and abuse these animals have faced. We do it with everything else in law and justice why cant we do it with the brands?

    As rough as it is, I always appreciate seeing Horse Plus being so proactive in choosing to put down the horses who need it. It's a weird thing to say, but there are some people and rescues out there who would be willing to let an animal (not just horses) suffer because the animal "might" get better or because they're not currently in failure even if they're on that path. Horse Plus doesn't want the horses to be in pain for any longer than necessary and they put any personal feelings aside to do right by the horses.
    I had to make the call for my old gelding who coliced last year. If I let myself be selfish I could have spent hours saying bye to him. I took about 5 minutes instead and then went with the vets to be with him when they put him down. Again, if I was selfish I would have said my goodbyes and not seen it to the end, but I knew he needed me there to talk him through it.
    All those horse put down in the video (and the many, MANY in prior videos) should have had the same experience my gelding did with their owners. It's a shame they weren't able to, but so great that Horse Plus was able to be there for them in the end

      100% agree, there are enough horses that there is no argument for letting any suffer, the sooner they are let go the kinder, might does not come into it, they have no quality of life

    That is so heartbroken that theses precious lives go through so much pain and abuse. Thank you for saving these precious. Lives even though it ends up doing the last act of kindness. To end their suffering. Their former owners needed to do the right thing. Keep up the great work you all do. Your their voice.

    Omg it breaks my heart when a horse needs the last act of kindness and seeing its eyes look so thankful for kindness. As it took a drink of water you witness how that poor horse has had to adjust to pain to do simple things like drink ... how can an owner not care to do the last act of kindness and allow an animal to suffer like that !!

    I've learned so many things by watching these intakes! Thank you so very much. Dr. Lydia's explanations are easy to understand. You aren't just changing the lives of the horses you see but I wonder how many lives you've saved by people just learning from watching your rescues. Keep educating the law makers up in Washington! Well done all!!!!!

    I just was gifted a pipeline horse. I don’t own him. The barn I volunteer at is a soft place to fall for many horses. “Red” has so many scars. Most seem to be from a single event, maybe a fall in a trailer, or a battle with another horse. He is enormous, has a huge appetite. And has spent the last two months eating and snoring in a pasture.
    He is so incredibly calm. Wants nothing more than quiet scratches. I brushed his winter coat out this week. And there is a shine coming through. He stood for an hour letting me just brush. We may just be friends, or he may be put into the training category. He won’t compete in any sports. I think he has the head for most anything. But there is no reason to put that sort of pressure on him. He is still underweight, has put on more than 50lbs in the last few months. Still working on his parasites. He doesn’t seem to have any pain associated with his scars. He may not be rideable. He does love attention. And for his size, he is just a calm sweet boy. Someone has taught this boy manners and kindness in his history.

    Thank you Dr. Lydia for your diagnosis 's. It is a tough job. Am glad these horses do not go yo to slaughter, where they are first stabbed in the neck until a vital nerve is hit and they collapse, still alive, to face the final blow. Such sadness. Thank you, Dr. Lydia for giving these horses a pain free, dignified death.
    Only those people who have suffered from chronic pain can have the greatest empathy for the horses which are beyond being brought back to health. Thank you HPHS for your humane intervention.😢🙏👍♥️

    Fingers crossed for the draft mare. The best thing I've seen in days: At the end of the video, the horse being released into a large, grassy pasture, and watching him run. He had to have known he was in a great place. HPHS - -> wonderful people doing great work.

    The sad part is, my friend's horse had that same injury as that bay Standardbred and she took great care of him, They placed a PVC cast on injured leg to help ,stall rest, numerous B12 treatments, Magna wave, massage...ect. she got him back to rideable within 14 months, it was pretty amazing! He is now 100% retired due to shivers!

    I've had to say goodbye to many over my lifetime. Most of the rescues I've brought in needed me to make that choice. Thank you for being strong enough to give them the reprieve that they need. It's absolutely not fair to leave them to suffer. I've rehabbed breaks before, but I whole heartedly agree with the vet. Unfortunately some things are just not fixable. Heartbreaking but the best thing for them is to let them go.
