As an investor I would be more impressed with a $19k car with a 400 mile range.
This will happen once the crazy inflation we've been having for years cools down & all plants are 100% automated so probably 5 years from now (once FSD is finally here & steering wheel pedals and stick disappear from the vehicles) & robotaxi fleet becomes the priority.
In this crazy recession with only 1% people being able to buy expensive cars, focusing on the luxury 🤑 market makes sense to rake in the ca$h (as proved by the success of sales for the Cybertruck). With the S & X getting 15 years old, Tesla needs a new flagship so making Roadster a priority now is great timing imo.

100kmh = 27.7777 ms
a = (27.77 - 0) / 1 = 27.8 m/s^2
Gravity, g is 9.81 m/s^2
27.7777 / 9.81 = 2.83 times gravity.

Let's assume an pressure tank for air with 80 l volume and 70 MPascal pressure. So about 70 kg air in the tank. Let's have the air thrusters have an just subsonic output speed of 300 m/sec.
300 m/sec times 70 kg gives 21 kN thrust.
1000 km range with good highway speed as promised means 200 kWh battery pack. With the newest 500 Wh/kg battery, that are 400 kg battery.
Big battery means also less internal resistance and less heat problems.
Just some more vaporware. I will believe in the new Tesla roadster when I see Jay Leno driving one.

Yes but in theory you could use an angled downward facing rocket to provide the extra down force needed. Or even better you could power a fan like the mcmurty fan car that could suck the car down to the pavement, a technology that was banned in F1. Or maybe you could just ignore tires altogether and just blast off like a rocket and lift a few feet off the ground completely
The question is, if the 'space X' version with rocket thrusters is legal to use on public roads in populated areas ? (What about the vehicles stopped behind it at traffic lights.) or is this feature meant to only legally be used on drag race tracks and other race type venues.??
So we will not see it in production until 2026. I am sure there will be many reasons outside the control of Tesla why it was late

The acceleration was so extreme from about 50-100 Km/h that I was about to pass out because the blood disappeared from my head. This happened several times, and each time I had to interrupt the acceleration test.

I'd assumed that the roadster's rocket-based cold thrusters would provide initial thrust upon a deliberate (and...legal) acceleration run, but now I believe that for safety, thrusters will 'kick in' after vehicle acceleration proves to be controlled and stable. For all I know, if cameras don't recognize a drag strip Christmas Tree when set to drag strip mode, the vehicle may prohibit cold thruster operation. Elon Musk has remarked that the roadster's 0-60 time is its least interesting feature.

@@Pauljefferson27 Yes. Without much understanding, we invested $10K into Apple when I retired from Ford in 2007. In 2019 we sold all of our Apple stock to invest it into Tesla and it grew enough in value since then that even after I sold off $200K (to buy a Model X Plaid), our remaining Tesla shares are today worth over $1M.

@@SikDigitz It will use an electric pump. Regular air will go into a high pressure tank, which is then released via the thrusters. It only needs the thrusters during insane acceleration, so it can slowly refill while driving or idle.

A car like that would certainly not be registered in Europe. I saw the video from the Dutch and the Germans. As a driver you are completely helpless in that second and you can only try to keep that fucking steering wheel straight and these guys had a closed test track. It's too bad that Tesla took SO LONG to come out with the Roadster. If they had released it when they said they would it would have broken records left and right, but other automakers beat them to the punch such as the Rimac (fastest accelerating car ever) and Lucid (longest range). Now they have to resort to "cold thrusters" to do its thing. Will it even be released as described or will Elon have to back pedal again?

The things the students had to do to get the car to go that fast would specifically exclude a Roadster like vehicle. Is it possible to get a rocket to got to the moon? Yes. Is it possible to get all rockets of any type to go to the moon? No.

Go look on the rear tires of those top fuel dragsters and you'll see what I mean. Those 2 rear tires basically run the entire width of the car and they're drag radials on a prepped surface

They're are quite a few cars already in the 1 second range like the McMurtry speirling and the rimac but UNDER 1 second is something else entirely. The s plaid is said to achieve under 2 seconds but from what I'm seeing is mostly in the 2. Something second range. While possible it's going to require a herculean engineering effort.

Because it's a low volume car. The model 2 is not and requires all the developments in manufacturing they've made in the last years to make it possible.
For one its impossible to achieve that as the replies has said in the redponses on X. No street legal tire is capable of that speed. I would bet a healthy amount of money that the roadster will NOT have 600miles of range in any version. not because it's physically impossible but because if it did it would just be a totally inferior product. the only use would be Autobahn or cannon ball 120 -150mph cruising but this would . 600 miles of range isn't even that desirable for a family car but it. would just make more sense in a model s "GT" plaid+ powertrain, no track package/aero, active suspension. no focus on track performance, just power, range, comfort, like AMG S class.
you don't sacrifice hundreds of pounds in an electric super/hypercar for range. the biggest single performance bottleneck in current high performance EV like S plaid, Rimac nevera, taycan turbo GT is weight and how weight impacts tires performance. no current road tire technology is able to withstand sustained acceleration, braking and cornering at high speeds, which is what super/hypercard are meant for. owners of these lmkind of car spend a lot on options to save weight
Making an EV that can beat any gas car on any performance metric is a great objective, and range is not one of those metrics. I don't know. if it can be achieved with 2025/2026 battery tech, not with current tesla energy density focused battery tech, and not with upcoming iterations of 4680 cells
also not without full carbon tub and body
the trend in very high performance EV/PHEV (nevera, Evijah, Gemera, future Bugatti hybrid) is very high electric output with a smallish battery optimized for power density. if Tesla keeps prioritizing range the roadster will be a failure
regarding the spacex package ability to to 0-60mph in 1s I think it's possible but with a huge compromise on range, weight and efficiency, also impact on performance when the thrusters are not used. I don't think they want to enter a mass production process for these thrusters/compressors/big pressure lines/tank. what makes sense is to just make enough spaceX roadster for influencers and high profile personalities like they did with the first deliveries of the founders cybertruck. it's a car for exotic cars drag racing channels, jay leno, etc. I'm pretty sure they won't be able to meet the demand.

That video of it beating a base model porsche 911 T manual has already been debunked by "engineeringexplained" it was only to the 1/8th mile and the porsche driver in the video was short shifting the porsche to make it slower. It took tesla since 2007 and on too make a fast dual motor EV and in porsche FIRST EVER attempt at making a full on EV they made a faster dual motor then tesla has ever done TILL THIS DAY! Then tesla had to add an entire extra motor just to beat the 4 year old taycan. Porsche always does more with less. The new taycan which is coming out this year has already obliterated the plaid lap time around nurumbring posting a 7:07 only 2 seconds slower then the 1,850 hp rimac nevera. Gl too tesla on beating that.

Those sub 1sec cars are tested on a closed circuit not public roads and are incredibly light and aerodynamic and more power to the students thad built it . A car on public roads with that sort of acceleration is just a accident waiting to happen the CGI Viking his writers and researchers don't have a clue. Yes it is possible to make a 0-60 in 1 second vehicle but absolutely not worth it for the road and as for air thrusters they would make the vehicle a danger to other road users and technologically impractical.

My MG4 x power is fast enough 0-60 in 3 seconds and less than a quarter of the price of this over priced roadster
