Your certainly alot more calm about this leak then I wouldve been. Brand new, so expensive and it leaks! I worked at an auto factory for 30 years, we water tested our vehicles before they left the factory. Cant believe they wouldn't water test those before selling them. Sorry NO EXCUSES for this defect! Lucky for you that you had friends that helped make this fix easier then most new owners would have it. ✌💞

Thank you for sharing. Another option for people to search out water problems. Water travels in strange directions. My past class C was a nightmare. We ripped out entire right top front and replaced all framing etc. Sealed back up and water tested. What a job! However, a big learning curve. We used that RV for years then sold it. I too am buying a popup roof truck camper soon. Love yours. Enjoy!!!

I've watched several Four Wheel Camper factory tours and don't remember seeing them run finished campers through a spray rack to check for leaks. Mistakes can and will happen in a production process, but every effort should be made to insure that a leak free rig is delivered. My first RV, a brand new 1994 Skyline Aljo 5th wheel was delivered with a leak over the bed. I was about a 2 hour drive from the factory and was asked to bring the unit in where they took care of the problem. They were of course very apologetic, fixed the problem and returned my rig with several free upgrades as well. Problem was the rubber roof membrane had been cut too short and leaked where the front siding met the roof. Should have never happened. Biggest problem I think with the RV industry is the pace at which many manufacturers work, and their reliance on dealer networks to fix issues that shouldn't exist to begin with. Yes Joe and Kate, all rigs need some TLC once delivered, but at today's prices, I'd expect at the least a leak free unit. Kudos to you for publishing this video. Hopefully Four Wheel Campers will work diligently to eliminate similar owner angst going forward.

    • @Weretherussos
      @Weretherussos  4 ปีที่แล้ว

I'm sure a leak check was done, but we've put thousands of miles on the camper already so something may have shaken loose or that which caused the leak and why it didn't show after production.

Glad it was an easy fix and I knew Joe would fix it!! Love your new camper and 30 years ago it would have been my choice, so enjoy it and have all the off road adventures you can while you're young! It's nice to have all those fun crazy times to look back on and have no regrets about taking some wild chances. Time catches up with us and how! We love our class B Era and all the creature comforts it affords us and we're still on the road for 4 months in the summer but it doesn't look real promising this year! I had hoped to celebrate my 80th birthday in the Canadian Rockies this summer but may still be hunkered down! Good luck for getting back on the road!

Leaks are very frustrating. When my husband and I were first married; we lived in a mobile home. It had roof leaks that were incredibly hard to find. I am so glad you figured out your leak and got it fixed. Happy trails!!

So an annoyance did not become a nightmare. I like the response from the mfg but it's cool that you could identify & fix it as part of getting to know your new home. Bonus footage pst repair was showing how beautifully the rig manages in a storm. How cool is it to have a backup bed? I watched your video with my first cup of the day, so cheers. Years ago when Little Guy made small teardrop campers I had a conversation with the production manager. He told me that early on they put silicone in the screw holes on the roof, then ran the screws in; the rain happily followed the silicone right down into the holes. They switched to filling the holes with butyl and the problem was solved.

    • @Weretherussos
      @Weretherussos  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Butyl tape was what was on there. So now, there’s the butyl under tracks and around the screw hole, dicor in the hole and I added some on top of every screw. It’s solid now

They're still great campers. All new RVs have problems and bugs to work out - be it a FWC or any other. It's more about how the company addresses the problem - FWC got right back to me and said we could take it to any shop and they would cover the cost for the repair. They called us back a few days later to make sure the problem was taken care of.

I bought a brand new 2018 Lance camper two years ago and it leaked on the first rain. Come to find out the sky light had a hair line crack that allowed water to leak through a light fixture and down the wall. Lance fixed it right away. Stuff happens. Try buying a New stick house and see how many repairs have to be made.

Story time with the wornout wrench...
I was living in my truck camper at a remote work site. I told you about my old camper before, 10.5 feet of luxury, fully equipped. It was nice living in it. I think it was 1992.
We had a couple of inches of slush come down and then it froze.
And then, of course it thawed in the middle of the night.
I woke up because the leak started right over the bed, right in the middle, right where I was sleeping.
I woke up because my crotch was soaked.
Needless to say waking up out of a deep sleep with a wet crotch was a bit confusing.
It took a bit to wake up enough to figure out what was going on.
The camper had a huge hatch over the bed, it was an escape hatch.
The water from the sloppy wet slush snow had pooled around the hatch. The freeze broke the seal somehow and once it thawed the roof just decided to drip on me.
Fortunately I had a sleeping bag on board so dropped the table down into the bed position and went back to sleep. I had some pots and pans under the leak to catch the water.
The camper was old, late 70's vintage so it still had the old style sheet metal roof.
Every year without fail you had to redo the seam paint on the seams. I had done it but must have somehow missed one tiny little spot.
When I got home at the end of the work day I had to get up on the roof and reseal around the hatch.
That night all was good. Thank goodness.
I loved that old monster, such good times. I have said it before but the best camping we ever had as a family was in that huge old camper.
I don't think I know anyone who has ever bought a new RV and not has at least 1 or 2 issues. My Arctic Fox trailer had the infamous leaky shower syndrome. That was an easy fix for me so instead of taking it 3 hours away to get warranty I just did my own fix. 13 years later the shower is still tight. The rest of the trailer leaks, but the shower is good.
    Loving this season.

Some advice, when you go to take delivery, bring a pad and paper. Go through it in detail, turn everything on, run the heat/AC, stove, etc. If anything is wrong, write it down and have them repair it before you take final delivery. After you get it, take it on a few shake down runs and see if you have any other issues and if so, get those taken care of before any major trips and you should be all set.

Use Eternabond tape on all seals when you get a new rig, trailer or a motorcoach. Done dealing for 20+ years. No need for the annual roof caulking. I wish I found this product earlier.

Hello there. I'm seriously, maybe, / was (lol) considering one of these campers. BUT I really really don't handle situations well like you. It is refreshing to know that you seem to have fixed it so easily. My question is why wouldn't they have done this fix to begin with at Four wheel campers..... UHHGGGGG. Anyway , Enjoy your videos guys & safe travels out there, from WA state. :-) P.S. I hope you folks at Four wheel campers are following these videos of people you sell to!!…. Deal makers OR breakers!!

We understand but remember, every new RV has its bugs/issues to work out, even the multi-million dollar Prevosts have problems. It comes with the territory and is just something you accept and deal with. If you buy a camper that's going through an earthquake every time you go down the road, you'll have to handle situations like these. There is always the option of calling a tech or taking it in someplace but we prefer to do things ourselves.

@@Weretherussos This is why the RV industry will never change because people accept and even expect problems with brand new RV's. It should not be this way. Especially for the asking price.

WTR, glad it was easily found, back in 70s I had 3 roof top package in a row @ the front of this new SYANGOGUE , TOOK ME SOME TIME FLAT ROOFS, anyhow as I found 1, the other 2 were the same , the ELECTRICIAN, put caulking around the greenfield, but left a ‘SPACE’ IN BACK, should have ran his finger around to ensure it was solid , .MY company did NOT do the install, But I did the startup

Why were you doing the repairs again? I guess I'm thinking they should be doing that, no matter the situation. I like your channel and you guys are super sweet. The fact you aren't living down by the river in an old station wagon is excellent. This setup is tough, but what's with the popup? Got to be honest, I liked the van life. You guys helped us figure out our new van back when you had a van. I know the van had some issues, but man, the van that van....

I can attest to the FWC and their quality. We had two. The one piece roof rarely leak. FWC uses butyl tape under all the camper and roof penetrations. You might want to keep an eye on the marker lights in the front. I've seen one instance of water getting through in hard driving rain.

Any penetration of the roof is a risk. Rack tracks, 14 inch vents, or solar panel wiring... all introduce risk.
After that, it’s just a matter of probabilities.
Some critics have difficulties with risk analysis, and with probabilities.
Good video about troubleshooting, then repair.

I have a 1983 SunLite popup truck camper that is far better built than those that are made by FWC. FWC use cheap materials and charge triple what they are worth. Every time I see one of those campers, my eyes pan to the cheap hydro shocks that help left the roof and the cheap vinyl that is used on the top surround. Canvass is way better and breaths and the windows in my SunLite are way bigger. PLus if you have a to get out of the camper quickly and can't get through the door how the hell you gonna get through the puny size windows of FWC. If FWC wants to give me one of their campers I'd make it into a kids play house that sits in the backyard....
