This is a stunning piece of art. Those “flaws” are what I was talking about in my comment about the trucker wallet build your recently posted. The story of this bag and how it came to be is what I love most about it. I love to see the return to your roots. Keep up the good work!
This bag is stunning! I call it the Patek Philippe of saddle bags “you never actually own this saddle bag. You merely look after it for the next generation”. I’m left awed in bewilderment
50 years ago, I was making sandals, handbags and vests. I hand tooled them and custom fitted them to my clients feet, chest, etc. But I did not stay in that business as at that time, everybody (and his pet, so it seems) was in the leather business. To build a client base was taking too long to get it up to where it would support me. Plus, prices were not there to make a decent living. So I left that craft. Today, with quality, and the internet, leathercrafters today, are able to make a good living. Not so 50 years ago without several decades of hard work to build up a business. Again, it is nice to see a quality leathersimth who can produce the goods that speaks volumes for your artisan skills. If I need something made with what I know is "Top Shelf", I will be contacting you.
Hi, I really appreciate you sharing your great talent in bag making. I used to work in a bag company for 8 years and with your show it reminds me of my time with the shop which i really.love doing. More power!
I've watched this video about 4-5 times because I love leather craft but I also just love this bag so so much...I've been tempted to try and make something similar but nothing would compare to this beast of a bag!! so, I'll keep dreaming about it lol
Your idea of imperfections are probably not really noticable to many others. However, I'm with you. I like 'em a little rougher as long as they are sturdy!
haha yeah everyones standards are a little different. But this hide was even rougher than it appears to be in the video. Although, i'm very happy with how it turned out:)
I love your work its awesome pice of art I would like to learn how to work with leather Is any way that you can share where to get al the supplies for a beginners Thanks
Obviously new to this because beyond the skill set I am amazed by the glue. What form of magic makes glue stick to the impossible using a hammer. What is it, elmers, tite bond, I need it. Guessing the hammer removes air, spreads and impregnated the fibers and breaks the fibers Down just enough for the tack to hold.
yes sir, I use contact cement so you have to apply it to both sides and it adheres to itself. Barge cement is a popular one for leathercraft but I started using a water based one recently called Aquilim 315. It's not nearly as toxic and I don't get headaches from using it anymore:) Still holds just as strong
Brother, that was more like a wrestling match! Great job! That bag will last more than one lifetime pretty or not. That bag definitely has purpose now. Great job!
The only downside of being a leatherworker is that I could never justify buying such great stuff when I can make it myself. Keep up the good stuff brother.
Interesting to see you use your Cobra instead of your Techsew 2750. I'm curious why you added the Cobra after purchasing your Techsew. Is the Cobra better?
New subscriber / new leatherworker-late to the game Absolutely love the bag and loved the video. I learned a LOT. Since I'm limited to hand stitching everything, it looked like I could do most of this stitching using a two-needle saddle stitch... I know... it'll take forever, but it's what I have. Also, I'll be watching more of your videos and am looking forward to the neatsfoot oil video... I was wondering what I needed to do to avoid "staining" veg-tan when I love the color to begin with. Thanks for sharing! Cheers
thank you! Yes you can still hand stitch this bag by either punching the holes before hand and pairing it up or using a chisel punch after it's glued and then stitch (which is the way I would recommend). As for leather treatment, if you don't want the color to change, I would recommend using Smith's leather balm. That will condition it without darkening, as well as giving it some decent weather proofing. It was want it to be really water repellent you can spray it down with some nikwax waterproofing spray after you condition it with Smith's www.stockandbarrelco.com/collections/leather-care/products/1-oz-smiths-leather-balm
Imagine being a lawyer and running late to court and when you get there the whole room is silent and the judge is staring at you and you have to open this briefcase and rummage around in it to grab all your stuff for your case lol
I love this. As a leatherworker myself, I feel like the term "handmade" or "handcrafted" can be misleading in the way that it has a weird meaning associated with it. Those terms are used interchangeably with "finest quality" and "flawless." That's not what handmade is at all. A handmade, especially small batch, product is flawed. Yes, some people can make a bag like this and spend entire days making it perfect and it looks great but that's not realistic unless you want a $3k bag. But most people aren't looking for something like that. Watching someone as successful as you get back to making things like this was reassuring. I often get caught up in trying to make everything perfect but it never will be. Especially not when I don't have machines to help. Thanks for making this!
Thanks Jim. Yeah I have a Techsew 2750 pro which is great for medium weight bags and smaller stuff but I more recently bought a Cobra class 3 (441 clone i believe) for heavy weight projects like this
Nostalgia is a fantastic word coming from such a young man. You amaze me every tutorial you post. That bag is something I would enjoy making. How do ya like your Cobra? I got a class four this last summer and it's a joy to run. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours and blessings also. I'm going to go to your site and get a pattern if they're for sale. Again Thanx for showing an old leather smith something new. You keep up the honest work. Take care and stay healthy. As ever just Tom 🤠
I love this bag!! I don't have Instagram, wish I did....ONLY because I'd love a chance of having this bag! I was an awning seamstress by trade for a lot of years. Recently got me a JUKI DU-1181n to start making purses, bags, outdoor covers, etc. I would really like to make myself something using leather. I do have a single sided rivet press, but no real leather tools. What would you suggest as a first project for this ol' retired gal? I'm not intimidated by the industrial machine, just a country gal at heart I guess. Lovin' the leather, squeaks and all! Suggestions?? I've enjoyed watching your videos, very entertaining and informative. Thanks!
Thanks Nancy! maybe try out a simple wallet to get started:) You can try one of our patterns if you need a little kickstart www.stockandbarrelco.com/collections/templates/products/no-76-womens-long-wallet-template
I've spent hours watching your videos. This is such a quality build. What glue did you use for this? Especially the walls of the bag. Seems like it would have to be strong.
Beautiful work, I whish I had all that equipment. You got to have money to make money. At the moment I don't but I hope to. Thanks for the very educational videos.
Where did you get that long rivet setter. I need 1 as my index finger on my left hand has a knot the size of an acorn nut on the knuckle from hitting it with my hammer when setting rivets. I have big hands & just can't seem to miss that finger.
Its not supposed to be a prom queen, its a brute and looks great and in 50 years it will still look good
Exaaaactly. Thank you!
That’s gonna last a lifetime. You’ll never need another laptop bag ever again.
What r u talkin about, that bag is AWESOME
Love it. It’s meant to have its rough edges, that’s what gives it character and history
Definitely, and thanks!
Love it. Starting to make bags now myself. I do a lot of holsters, wallets, and knife sheathes.
Can’t wait to be able to put out the work like you do
This is a stunning piece of art. Those “flaws” are what I was talking about in my comment about the trucker wallet build your recently posted. The story of this bag and how it came to be is what I love most about it. I love to see the return to your roots. Keep up the good work!
there is something wonderful about the sound of heavy leather, also, i love the look of that slightly uneven oil finish
It gives some character to it.
Very nice bag even with what you call low grade. Perfect making. Enjoyed it!!!
This bag is stunning! I call it the Patek Philippe of saddle bags “you never actually own this saddle bag. You merely look after it for the next generation”. I’m left awed in bewilderment
you're too kind, thank you!

Love the character on the leather. IT'S ALIVE!
Thanks David! I agree, i always love some oiled natty veg
Excellent bag, the different color gives it personality. Oil & sun will do wonders.
Love this. It’s meant to have that worn well loved look. It’ll have a beautiful patina in years to come
A true craftsman and a quality bag/satchel. Bravo
Thanks so much Randy!
The bag is beautiful.
And I’m sure it has that perfect “ Brand New Leather Smell “
Would love to own one of these🥰
Thank you!
You are a master bag maker, loved watching you make it.I would have loved to see the whole time. Love hours of leather making
I hope whoever won the bag really enjoys it!
Hi, I really appreciate you sharing your great talent in bag making. I used to work in a bag company for 8 years and with your show it reminds me of my time with the shop which i really.love doing. More power!
dude, 150 yrs this will still be a GREAT bag...don't undersell yourself...Great work
I've watched this video about 4-5 times because I love leather craft but I also just love this bag so so much...I've been tempted to try and make something similar but nothing would compare to this beast of a bag!! so, I'll keep dreaming about it lol
Man, I dont know why but I like to watch this video over and over.
thanks Brock:)
I sure wish I’d known give away a month ago, I LOVE that bag! I’d oil it up and carry it all the time!
Its all good !!
Dear Sir, Are you still making the bag? It is so beautiful!
Love it .how much does something like that cost?
Cool bag! I saw at least 3 different S&B T-shirts come by in this video...
I love your work its awesome pice of art
I would like to learn how to work with leather
Is any way that you can share where to get al the supplies for a beginners

I love the old worn look of the non perfect leather.

Beautiful bag and workmanship. I carry a $1200. Tumi bag, this is beautiful.
That is a beautiful bag! I could never make it, but I would definitely buy it!
hi
Thank you Stock&Barrel Co Leathercraft
thank you!

I am or was a canvas stitcher....This Bag is excellent!
Brother, that was more like a wrestling match! Great job! That bag will last more than one lifetime pretty or not. That bag definitely has purpose now.
Great job!
Hi can you plz bring down the prices to this template just getting started
The only downside of being a leatherworker is that I could never justify buying such great stuff when I can make it myself. Keep up the good stuff brother.
Haha I can totally relate. Thank you!
Interesting to see you use your Cobra instead of your Techsew 2750. I'm curious why you added the Cobra after purchasing your Techsew. Is the Cobra better?
I LIKE THE STYLE! I THINK YOU SHOULD BRING BACK THE #60 INTO PRODUCTION.. I WOULD BUY ONE!
it's a great looking bag. I've made a lot of my personal leather items because I was inspired by your designs
wow thank you so much!
This is how you'll be remembered
Love this bag!! I prefer to make heavier traditional bags and briefcases usually out of 6-8 oz Love the way they maintain. Great build.
New subscriber / new leatherworker-late to the game

Fell in love with this bag as I watched you making it. I hope I shared it correctly, I'm not tech savvy. Good luck to everyone!
Thank you Tammie:)
Thanks for the video! This is my next project!
oh im so sad i missed the giveaway for this bag, its so beautiful
Really good work Parker. Such an intricate design. One mistake and it could of all been ruined. Well Done. Paul
Imagine being a lawyer and running late to court and when you get there the whole room is silent and the judge is staring at you and you have to open this briefcase and rummage around in it to grab all your stuff for your case lol
That bag says, “Not only will I win this case. You’ll also call me Huckleberry when I’m done.”
I really like this bag. Good job. I wish I could have it.
AWESOME!! what is model name of that sewing machine?
I want to know how much it weighs !!! Absolutely beautiful i can see it on the side of a horse !!
Love the bag. Would it still be sturdy with a 5-6oz? Also, it'd be sweet to make it out of a 5-6oz and line it with a nice suede.
Make one for me man. I love this bag so dearly. I understand you gave this away but send one in South Africa please!!!
Beautiful bag! What company made the brown walking foot sewing machine? It sews amazingly!
Looks clean, i like it
Just great sir....thanks for making the vid
Do you have a full course on how you teach people bag making??
Looks pretty awesome to me! How many hrs do you think you have into a project like that?
thank you! it's usually around 6-8 hours but when i'm filming, it's 3x as long
ok maybe 2X
What type of conditioner you used on leather pieces before assembling the bag ?
Amazing work; that’s real skill right there...
Very nice work, it is always a pleasure to see your videos. Thanks for sharing.' What kind size off tread and needle do you use on your cobra machine.

That’s a cool perspective, I appreciate that man 👊🏼
I love this style bag! Do you ever make bags and turn them inside out so the seams don’t show?
Yeah definitely! Check out our website or other videos, I’ve done it quite a bit👍🏻
It's beautiful for its imperfections.
Looks to me that you've still got it... nice build pal
haha thanks Dan, this is definitely my favorite kind of leather work. So much fun
I think it’s a great bag. Thanks for sharing. I thought you recently bought a Techsew 341 clone.
Thanks Jim. Yeah I have a Techsew 2750 pro which is great for medium weight bags and smaller stuff but I more recently bought a Cobra class 3 (441 clone i believe) for heavy weight projects like this
Their 441 clone is Class 4.
Looks like Class 3 is a short arm 441 clone like a CB 3500. Looks like a great machine. First time I’ve seen you use a Cobra sander/edger.
Nostalgia is a fantastic word coming from such a young man. You amaze me every tutorial you post. That bag is something I would enjoy making. How do ya like your Cobra? Love my Cobra! I knew I would, it's a great machine. Glad you're enjoying yours as well. And thanks for the all the kind words. Happy Thanksgiving:)

It's beautiful!
We got benefit from your good idea.
him hitting stuff with a hammer sounds like what i would imagine walking by a rave happening in a steel building would sound like
Ok
