This is the boss that teaches you, if you're not going to use Buff/Debeffs you're going to spend the whole game getting your ass kicked.

Moreso buffs and weaknesses considering he Dekunas periodically. It's a weakness check too since you get a magatama that absorbs wind shortly before.
nah i even got my ass kicked throughout the whole game with buffs and debuff. its called skill issues and im the one with the issues 😭😭 also tbf at this point you dont have a compendium iirc so you gotta have a good line up too with limited space.

The game does warn you if you talk to an NPC. Your punished if your being impatient and don't play this game cautiously.
Your Menorah does always warn you when a Fiend is near... it's just that this is your first Fiend so you would have no idea how brutal they really are, especially this early in the game. Luckily, this is a short jog from a town.

@@NeroV1L3 the game warns you about him and you just need to turn around to save. If you don't save often enough or refuse to listen to npcs thats on you.
@@kap1618 when you absolutely demolish the boss before hand and see that the save is a 3 minute jog away, you're obviously just going to fight. It's a completely jarring difficulty spike, bad design

I die two times only two times bacause of him then i got mad got a magatama that have charge and after two hours of grind i was level 22 or 25 i don't remember now, i alredy have the lunge skill then in the third temptative i destroy him in 4 or 6 turns all my demons have died but i win.

I have a love-hate relationship with bone boi. He definitely made me rage quit on Hard mode countless of times, but, on the other hand, I love how Matador just acts as the one big Obstacle that you have to overcome in order to experience the rest of the game. A 'Casual Filter' in a sense even, if you will.
It forces you to learn how to play the Game really, if you hadn't already by that point. Namely by showing the importance of Buffs/Debuffs, and your party composition (i.e: Resistances/ Weaknesses etc.).

side note i like it when games have a tough as nails boss fight to teach you to play the game right. hate comparing the two games, but its sorts like okumura from p5.
I believe more games need bosses like Matador, that check to see if the player is learning the game's mechanics. Too many games just let you "Play it your way," which basically means power through the game without exploring all it has to offer and getting down and dirty with the gameplay. Basically if you don't learn the importance of buffs/debuffs, strengths/weaknesses, and how to properly utilize the press turn system your not beating this boss.

@@playstationtwo877 yeah. I played og nocturne and even though i knew this boss was coming, had the guide on how to beat him, had demons that negated or drained wind element skills, and even that didn't stop me from dying like 5 times before i got lucky and beat him.

Not really. If it's your first time, then yes, but once you lose that first time and see his moveset, you shouldn't have too much trouble if you set up a party that nulls Wind/Force attacks to make him lose turns and can debuff him and buff yourself to deal more damage, take more hits, and shut down Red Capote. In short, Matador does his job, forcing your to play around him, a normally difficult fight, by using your knowledge of the game's mechanics make him a joke, and if you can get over him, you should be good for most of the game afterwards.

From Software is very good about that. Many bosses in each of their games are what I consider early skill check fights (or time to learn how to use the mechanics). Like for example Sekiro has Genechiro Ashina, Bloodborne Father Gascoigne, Dark Souls III Pontiff Sulyvann.
Nocturne had Matador and SMT IV had Minotaur. Can't wait what SMT V will give us.

@@dukemon6163 hydra is better for a difficulty curve but it doesn't teach debuffs and you have to grind way to much for it.

I wonder how many people people new to the game, wanting to play it because of the remaster, got absolutely destroyed by Matador the first time lol I remember the first time I fight him... And the second, and the third... For the very first Fiend he's BRUTAL
My first mainline game and I just beat him on my second try (easy mode) the first time was indeed brutal and unexpected he destroyed me.
I got him first try, but it cost an arm and a leg because of bad luck with him using Andalucía.
He does ~30 per hit charged. Rakukaja is how you live. Matador means business.
Had to grind level 18 to fuse Ame No Uzume then re-grind level 21 to fuse Unicorn to do this boss and this dude beat it with 2 demons weak to Zan.

I've been reading a book by Ulysses Grant and he really hated matadors. I think I understand him now.

This is my first SMT game, as in, my first time playing any megaten game, and I heard all about the Matador, so I wanna know what kind of whomping I have to expect.
Matador essentialy teaches you the basics of the game, such as the immense importance of buffs and exploiting weaknesses, or making enemies attack you with 'useless' abilities, such as his Mazan being nulled by a demon like Ame-No-Uzume or Nozuchi.
If you don't do these things, he WILL wipe the floor with you due to his Red Capote maximizing his Accuracy and Evasion, meaning you can't even start hitting him unless you have your own 'Suku' spells or Fog Breath to match him. Even then, he can take a few tries to beat if he's particularly relentless and going after the Demi-Fiend. he also does a lot of party-wide damage so you,ll need helaing spells like Media unless you want him to pick off your party one by one.
The boss after him-Thor- does much the same and can twoshot your Demi-Fiend without you having a chance to attack and instantly cause a game over if things go south.
And that is the essence of the game: Regularly change demons, meet a boss, die to said boss, adapt, repeat until you finally beat them. Thankfully the bosses become less hellish as the game goes on with a few exceptions here and there, especially gimmick bosses like the Trumpeter.
@@FiendMatadorSlayerOfNoobs well, much is also left to rng. I am currently playing nocturne on emulator, I was already well versed in how to play harder jRPGs, also fully aware of matador, and still got wiped out at least 5 times. Even with grinding to level 16 I think, I won by sheer luck (i still don't know how are you supposed to survive taunt+focus+anadalecia). On the other hand, I beat Dante, Daisoju and Thor, first time, with no real problem. Bascially, if a boss happends to focus on demi, you are dead, no matter how well you are prepared.

I think Matador is so game check is because was added after the original game, we got basically an updated version globally, but Japan started with the basic version, then the Maniax version that we got and added him and other bosses to get the TD Ending, no other SMT game have a boss this specific to counter that early in the game, is more normal in side bosses or near the final.
In a way he is, he's the games way of saying "Hey buddy have you been using buffs/debuffs yet?"

See, the thing about Matador fight is, it happens so suddenly you don't have a choice but to fight. And he punishes you hard for unprepareness, but if you came back with Hifumi, demons with null Force, evasion / hit rate, defense debuff and party def buff, he's nothing and you can easily finish him in like 6 7 minutes
Then he charges into Andalucía and you cry in horror as you and your demons are in red.

Every day I wake up knowing my homies Take-Minekata and Blob got my back with dark might during a new kagutsuchi when I fought this, saved my life since I didn't have sukunda or any accuracy/evasion debuffs
I hate that he pronounces capote the Spanish way, but his own name in English. It bothers me honestly way more than it should.

I actually like the design of this boss, it basically taught me how to use buffs and debuffs.
I actually managed to beat this guy on my first try. It took awhile, but I did it. I don't quite remember what level I was when I fought him, but I had Ame No Uzume, so it had to be above level 19 (it might've been in the mid 20s).

It's because Buff usually does magic builds in Nocturne playthoughs. Whenever he does one, it's usually a magic build or low level run.
magic is actually really good in the early-mid game

@@motoflame14 i actually find magic build in RPGs more fun, so maybe so does he. And you can still make quaite strong magic-based demi, with magma axis and boosting your magic for more MP to basically spam spells.

it's the same voice as navarre from smt iv a. awesome. it's actually a really fitting choice in a strange way I think, it gives the matador a more light hearted and comical air if you hear navarre in the enunciation. I'm not sorry that you wont be able to unhear it, this is still some of the best biblical trash talk in the game.

I remember people showing that even after the patch that improves framerate issues that the framerate still chugged a bit when Matador was being summoned and at other points as well, so did they further improve the framerate, or are you possibly playing on ps5/pc which is causing it to run better?
Buff tends to play on intended hardware unless hes doing some kinda specific challenge run
I finally bought SMT 3: Nocturne HD yesterday for my Switch and if I'm being honest I do not look forward to fighting Matador the inventor of the "Buenos Dias f*&k boy" meme again.

This fight isn't that hard if you have Ame no Uzume, tarunda, fog breath, and sukunda. Rakukaja and Rakunda are also useful since he can only negate accuracy debufs. You can level up inugami and fuse it into forneus to get a forneus with fog breath.
Be fair you gotta be a bit overleveled for fog breath.
Level 20 is a bit over leveled tho
