A glorious live performance, full of life, full of wonder, full of the magic of Holst. Thank you so much. I find it hard to type as my eyes are filled with tears of sheer joy.
I used to play violin in an orchestra and we would be told how to raise our bows to get ready, how to finish and then hold them in one hand. And the bow movements are in sync. Its magnificent.
3:30 I vow to thee, my country, all earthly things above, Entire and whole and perfect, the service of my love; The love that asks no question, the love that stands the test, That lays upon the altar the dearest and the best; The love that never falters, the love that pays the price, The love that makes undaunted the final sacrifice. And there's another country, I've heard of long ago, Most dear to them that love her, most great to them that know; We may not count her armies, we may not see her King; Her fortress is a faithful heart, her pride is suffering; And soul by soul and silently her shining bounds increase, And her ways are ways of gentleness, and all her paths are peace.
When I was a child, about 10 or 11, they had those special collection type magazines, and each issue featured information about a planet, along with the piece of music for it by Gustav Holst. I collected them all and I loved every issue and every piece of music. But my favourite was Jupiter. I loved reading and learning about the biggest planet in our solar system and the music was such the compliment to what I had learned. I will never forget how it moved me to tears for the very first time, and to this day, I can't keep myself from welling up when I hear it. ❤️ I even heard it played on an episode of 'Bluey' that my son was watching, and that had me crying aswell lol. 🥲 *Edited cuz I forgot to say, obviously my parents had bought me the magazines*.

Somewhere in this boundless universe there will be an almighty planet capable of reproducing the dead beloved . From Tokyo of the Land of Rising Sun . Which national are you watching this video ?
Watch the movie Whiplash, you might get the idea of how important the conductor is. The primary duties of the conductor are to interpret the score created by a composer in a manner which is reflective of the specific indications within that score, set the tempo, ensure correct entries by various members of the ensemble, and to "shape" the phrasing where appropriate. To convey their ideas and interpretation, conductors communicate with their musicians primarily through hand gestures, typically though not invariably with the aid of a baton, and may use other gestures or signals, such as eye contact with relevant performers. A conductor's directions will almost invariably be supplemented or reinforced by verbal instructions or suggestions to their musicians in rehearsal prior to a performance. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conducting

This should really be our national anthem, it has everything. The words are inspiring beyond words and when combined with this music.. a force major.
That's a very good point. Thank you.
Now that kind of flute section is how every orchestra should have.

An (inter) stellar performance!
It was brilliant, it was astounding - uplifting even & about as good as it gets in terms of a classical masterpiece.

Can someone explain why a conductor is needed

The performance is excellent, but this is listed as a school orchestra, why are there older adults in it?
They did not manage to leave the hall after the previous concert
