  • The For Our Day Model lays out Book of Mormon history on a timeline, side by side with a timeline of contemporary history. Events in our day are chosen based on the signs of the times, history highlighted by latter-day prophets, visions of the last days given to prophets, and scripture.
The Book of Mormon contains not only guidance at an individual level, but also the most detailed prophecy of our future-a blueprint for building Zion, discerning modernist deceptions, and navigating the turmoil of the last days!

I really want to thank you for this. My adult son reached out to me this morning after I sent him all of your materials. He and his wife have put together a packet for each of my grandchildren that they will be using throughout the year. Each one of them have a copy of your timeline in their scripture journal and will be using your activities throughout the year. Know that, from a grandfather, that is all I could have hoped for! I am excited for them. I also know, based on what I have read and seen from you in the past, that your siblings are deeply engaged in this process. Please thank all of them for me! I know that all of you are working hard to produce the best material that you can. Please know that it is appreciated and will hopefully touch many lives. All the best!

Oh man, I have been pondering why Mormon was so exacting with his timeline he puts forward. He is careful to tick each year off as counted, even if he says nothing happened during the year...
Now I have to go look at the years. first few verses of 3 Nephi 8 have struck me hard the last few times I have read them. Thank you Sis Stoddard

We need more of this type of approach to studying all scriptures! There are so many parallels given to us in the scriptures for a reason, "I give you a pattern in all things that you may not deceived" D&C 52:14. If we can identify how these apply to our day we will have a better understanding of what is coming and how to navigate. I hope this series can do this and provide examples of why Mormon put a particular event or character in the BoM for us, the good and the bad as it relates to our political and religious history, so that we can repent where necessary.

Thank you for your comments on preparation being in the BofM. So many rely on Pontius Glory book and it should be the BofM. The Glory book had such a negative feeling about it and so many flaws that I had to throw it out. BofM is our ultimate source and the spirit guiding us. Not someone else's private personal experiences that should have never been published that is not from the prophet

You are an answer to my prayers. I have known for a few months...maybe since our last churchwide study of the BOM, that it is fortelling our day. But I just didn't know how to get my family and friends to take it seriously. I am old (79) and It wasn't until in my 50's that I started studying Pres. Bensons words. I wondered if we were still under condemnation. I wondered how we could get out of condemnation. But I set the concern aside and went about my daily life. NOW I AM SERIOUS.
I listened to a talk show host telling about the ways our government is ignoring our constitution and destroying our nation, and the thought came into my mind "just like in the Book Of Mormon times. It's too late to save the Republic, but not too late to save Zion.
I will be forwarding this channel to all I know and love.

There's a great book by an LDS author that shows that there is perfect harmony between the prophetic statements concerning the garden of Eden being in Missouri and the Old Testament account concerning the garden of Eden. It's called Canaan, Babylon, and Egypt A Comparative Theological Analysis on Creation sold by Eborn Books.

The book is written for our day has always been at the center of my testimony, this gives the book it's relevance and power. Remember President Thomas S. Monson last talk given to us.
    Ezra Taft Benson also said
“The Book of Mormon … was written for our day. The Nephites never had the book; neither did the Lamanites of ancient times. It was meant for us. Mormon wrote near the end of the Nephite civilization. Under the inspiration of God, who sees all things from the beginning, he abridged centuries of records, choosing the stories, speeches, and events that would be most helpful to us.
“Each of the major writers of the Book of Mormon testified that he wrote for future generations. … If they saw our day and chose those things which would be of greatest worth to us, is not that how we should study the Book of Mormon? We should constantly ask ourselves, ‘Why did the Lord inspire Mormon (or Moroni or Alma) to include that in his record? What lesson can I learn from that to help me live in this day and age?’” (Teachings: Ezra Taft Benson, 140).

It has been said that history rhymes. The Book of Mormon clearly shows this. I can’t remember the reference, but at one point whoever was writing that part says they were about to explain the secret combinations but didn’t because they are had among us regardless. It is clear to me, looking at our government, and governments around the world, that there are so many that are effectively acolytes of Kishkumen.

I am excited to see what you have to offer, and any future content you put out. I am always excited to study the Book of Mormon, as my father heavily impressed on me the teachings, in the Book of Mormon, were for our day. He also spoke much on President Benson telling us the whole church was under condemnation for not reading, studying, and understanding the Book of Mormon was written/compiled for our day. My father even wrote a book, in the late 80’s, comparing the Nephites to Americans titled Parallel Histories. Sadly, it is currently out of print. If there is enough interest, I can look into getting it published as an e-book.

Seems to me that one parallel today is Hamas & Israel compared with the Lamanites & Nephites, especially in Alma chapter 43. For example, consider the name Amalekite and how Hamas is connected to the Amalekites in the bible.
    Also:
"45 Nevertheless, the Nephites were inspired by a better cause, for they were not fighting for monarchy nor power but they were fighting for their homes and their liberties, their wives and their children, and their all, yea, for their rites of worship and their church."
"46 And they were doing that which they felt was the duty which they owed to their God; for the Lord had said unto them, and also unto their fathers, that: Inasmuch as ye are not guilty of the first offense, neither the second, ye shall not suffer yourselves to be slain by the hands of your enemies."
"47 And again, the Lord has said that: Ye shall defend your families even unto bloodshed. Therefore for this cause were the Nephites contending with the Lamanites, to defend themselves, and their families, and their lands, their country, and their rights, and their religion."

Very interesting. The biggest lesson I think we might consider is that the spirit of warfare which infected all - the Nephites and the Lamanites - eventually destroyed everybody. Also, please take care to articulate. It took me listening to you say this five or six times before I realized you were saying three words: For Our Day. It’s coming out “forrerdy”. Incomprehensible. 😟

Actually, Mormon DID include the story about the writing on the wall, in the 116 pages. Joseph Smith Sr. mentioned it to the newspaper editor who wrote about it before Martin Harris lost it.

  • @deseretrebel4590
    @deseretrebel4590 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

While I've tried to do this in the past by parsing things out, I didn't take the time to really sit down and figure out the parallels . Appreciate this insight and the chart. A couple of other thoughts:
-Don Bradley pointed out in his book The Lost 116 Pages that Aminadi was likely within the text of the lost manuscript as Mormon was so meticulous that he wouldn't mention something out of the blue like that without setting it up first.
-Along the lines of odd mentions, I've wondered why Hagoth was brought up when so many others obviously set out and went north. It dawned on me while watch this is he was referring to a significant explorer who builds many ships in our time. I don't know if that is Elon Musk but you have to wonder ;)
-Any collectivist/transhuman/anti-God movements can be included into secret combinations - some may not be as obvious about it, such as the Soros Foundation, but look at their fruits and ye shall know them...

This is great stuff. I appreciate the insights and efforts made. I do have some criticism.
The chronologies don't line up that closely. For instance, organized crime appears multiple times. Personally, I prefer a model of "this is what to look out for and how they work," not "this is the order in which things are going to happen."
A few of the prophets may have seen in that great detail. However, in the case of Mormon, I believe it is more likely that he just followed the whisperings of the Spirit. He did say that is what lead him to including the small plates of Nephi.
Think about it. That is much more simple to guide Mormon that way than to unfold the whole panorama and tell him to match it. It's similar to choosing hymns for Sacrament Meeting.
The bishopric often tells me what the talk subjects will be. Then I have to go into my memory banks or the subject index and worry out a solution. I prefer when they don't tell me and I get to ask my Heavenly Father to guide me to the hymns He wants. Almost invariably, the hymns I choose compliment the talks nicely, yet the process was easier.
There is no strong evidence that the Nephite form of government was republican. It was much more loose, a rule of law but not heavily of representation. That can be seen by the fact that it appears that only a few small changes in the law would turn it into a monarchy.
I see no parallel whatsoever between the final destruction of the Nephites and the final judgment.
I fear you may be approaching a totemizing of The Book of Mormon just as the Christian world has totemized the Bible. I don't believe it is prudent to turn to The Book of Mormon to learn how to prepare for coming upheavals but to our living prophets.
That said, as I earlier stated, I am learning important principles from you and I enjoy it. Keep up the good work but please humbly take into account my objections.

Interesting. I agree it's valuable to line up the BOM timeline, especially with important events highlighted by the brethren. However, How is Darwin an anti-Christ? The anti-evolution mentality is more of an evangelical response due to biblical literalism that really took hold in the fundamentalism in the United States (which unfortunately takes everything literal when we all know how much amazing symbolism is really in there). Importantly, this especially doesn't align with the official church standing on evolution, which is that they don't have an official stance for or against it.
see the church's statements on evolution on the official site: by searching for "what does the church believe about evolution" and "organic evolution"
It's important to note that there is a lot of excellent evidence showing the principles of organic evolution, some of it even coming from scientists within the church and at BYU. Calling Darwin an anti-Christ fuels a damaging anti-science mentality plaguing Christianity, which leads people to NOT "seek ... out of the best books words of wisdom; seek learning, even by study and also by faith" or to follow Brigham Young's teachings to "Go to school and study.... I want to have schools to entertain the minds of the people and draw them out to learn the arts and sciences. Send the old children to school, and the young ones also; there is nothing I would like better than to learn chemistry, botany, geology, and mineralogy, so that I could tell what I walk on, the properties of the air I breathe, what I drink, etc."
It's critical to seek truth wherever it may be found, and to use the right tools to evaluate truth. Physical tools are amazing and measuring physical phenomena, and our "sixth" spiritual sense is critical for seeing beyond to spiritual truths. The false dichotomy of science and religion emerges only when people use to the powerful tools to jump to the wrong conclusions. Biblical literalism gets you in trouble since it assumes the "how" of God's creation are confined to the understanding of bronze era peoples. Science gets us in trouble when we rely solely on it to answer the "why" of creation. Biblical inerrancy makes us ignore our amazing physical senses, while a science-only approach to learning makes us ignore the spiritual dimension of reality.
It's not Darwin that would be an anti-Christ, it's the extrapolation of the research to say there is no God (which Darwin didn't do). I think similarly Creationism in its fullness is anti-truth. We should be careful to follow the admonition to seek truth through study and faith, and seek truth with the right tools and the right senses for the class of truth.

I agree with the fundamental premise that BoM events hold many parallels relevant to our day, but I don't necessarily agree with your timeline, or the fact that these parallels are even meant to be looked at as delineating any kind of chronological timeline. Many of the assumptions used as a basis for than timeline on this video seem to be more ideologically than scripturally based.

Okay, I was enjoying the loose parallels of the Book of Mormon with our day, until you listed 19th and 20th century philosophers as anti-Christ. It’s accurate for them to be characterized as anti-religious, as this would be in response to their experiences with religion of their day. But where are you getting information that they were specifically opposed to Jesus Christ and his teachings? In fact, many might argue that they were very accurate with their descriptions of religion in their day and that doctrines of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints share many similarities with their philosophical views. This would especially be true, with how radical the pure doctrine of Christ that was given through Joseph Smith seemed to Christians living in his day and is another reason why traditional Christian denominations still don’t consider the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to be Christian today.
