- A little late, but better than never I say. I didn't list the clans on the images because the captions over the images looked very bad. So if you don't know the other clan logo's here they are listed in order of appearance on the video:
1. Star league symbol (not a clan but is the logo for House Cameron)
2. Clan Dagger Star (Not a clan again but it's their version of the Star League symbol)
3. Clan Blood Spirit
4. Clan Burrock
5. Clan Cloud Cobra
6. Clan Coyote
7. Clan Diamond Shark
8. Clan Fire Mandrill
9. Clan Ghost Bear
10. Clan Goliath Scorpion
11. Clan Hell's Horses
12. Clan Ice Hellion
13. Clan Jade Falcon
14. Clan Mongoose
15. Clan Nova Cat
16. Clan Smoke Jaguar
17. Clan Snow Raven (The best)
18. Clan Star Adder
19. Clan Steel Viper
20. Clan Widowmaker
21. Clan Wolf
22. Clan Wolverine (The not named clan/Minnesota Tribe)
A majority of the clan logo's I used are from the deviantart page of this user, very good work by them and I hope they don't mind me using these on a non profit video :) punakettu.devia...
Awesome. I'm re-reading Lethal Heritage right now.
love these quick lore refreshers. I'm making my way through the novels but having a good primer is nice
That's what I made them for :)
@@CriticalRocket where is a good place to find the novels? My local barnes and noble seems to only have the dark ages series.....which I have heard are not good.
@@acehigh79 If you don't mind buying digital versions of the novels you can find them on drivethrurpg under the catalyst game labs and battletech section. Physical copies I am not so sure of. Maybe looking at Amazon can help for specific novels you want.
Creativity: Everyone dies in one of three ways, Bomb, battle, or heart failure.
Pugiron with the odd person dying from a heartattack from a bomb exploding while in battle.
I listen to these all the time. Thank you
Thank you for listening :) Glad you enjoy them.
Really good vid man ! Lorewarrior makes my day.
+healthyfire Glad you like them :)
Hey Crit!
Just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy all these videos!
Keep up the great work, hope to see lots more down the road! :D
+James Price Glad you like them :) Plenty more coming, hell if MWO stops being a game in the future the lore videos will continue.
These are fantastic videos. As a long-term Battletech fan, I know that newcomers can feel the lore to be foreboding and difficult. Have you ever thought of creating a overview from the formation of the Star League through the Word of Blake Jihad? I would be happy to help you put that together.
History overview is in the works after the faction videos are done :) Looking on that and then major campaigns and vehicles, aerotech and 'mechs not currently in MWO.
love the lore keep them comming
Will do.
803 bloodnames not 760 (20 clans with 40 each + Nicholas and Andery Kerensky and Jennifer Winson). If you eliminate the duplicates (like the Kerenskys and the Osis names) then you get to 787 unique names at founding. I think your 760 is just 40*20 less the 40 annihilated with Wolverine.
Love this series btw. I'm glad you did it... Going to go eagerly consume the others now ;)
Like I keep telling people, the data for these are from the original books, verbatim, not making it up and it's written by the FASA writers lol. I don't know why people keep trying to correct me on this stuff when it's the material from the original books, I need to put disclaimers and notes on what books this info is from.
All of the content has always been from the perspective of a historically flawed narrative (I.e. From an in universe observer who can be, and frequently is, incorrect). That being said, even the original FASA stuff makes it clear that there were 800 (the whole 803 is a bit of subsequent revisionism) and the 760 number is just the deletion of the Wolverines.
And I'm not criticizing, just expanding and clarifying. I think what you've done is great and wish there was more of this.
Note: The FASA stuff is horribly inconsistent even within single books. The Jade Falcon sourcebook doesn't even make sense with things like bloodcounts on bloodnames and some of the historical notes (I think they list one name as reaved but that name shows up in the touman list later). Alot of the later discrepancies were necessary retcons to fix FASA screw ups.
Jeff Hall
But the point I am making is that it's from X book and so if there is an issue, it's not really to do with me. I could make them longer but I imagine they would be boring if they went on too long and ultimately piss off other people who have read more recent material where previous info has been retconned.
The next one I am adding a note of the book and year of release to avoid this anyway. That way people can point to the book being incorrect/inconsistent or not matching other material.
The truth of the material is always in the middle as you say it's always from a single perspective so of course there are elements of inconsistency and contradiction. The supposed truth could itself be a fabrication and the original be correct, the numbers being different is simply another facet of that very point you made to begin with. So yeah the 800/803/760 could all be right but you yourself said it's messed up and likely the true number is different again.
I think the bloodname count was only worth clarifying because the in universe explanation (even going back to the original FASA stuff) was the Wolverines. The difference between 803 and 800 is a retcon that happened later... but the 800 is mentioned at least as far back as the Wolf Clan Sourcebook. It'd be like if you said Nicholas Kerensky created the 19 clans. I'd have had the same quibble.
I think, for the most part, the newer books have done a good job of cleaning all of it up. Creating in universe explanations for some of the weirdnesses that the older books screwed up on (It's pretty clear that FASA didn't pay attention to continuity much... even in its own books). Operation Klondike (If you haven't read it) is a really, really good read of an era that you'd probably enjoy (mechs of a "simpler time" so to speak).
wrong..there where double names...Nicholas and Andery for instance... 682 is official nr acc to wolf clan source book
The moment he started talking about the planets was the same moent I was looking at the star map on MWO
Well all the information are from the books so they should be correct, unless other writers have made later corrections.
Critical Rocket o no no I was just saying the timing that I would be looking at the star chart the same time that part of the video came up was funny
oh right haha, spooky coincidence.
Just reading down the comments: Critical Rocket, I hope you know what you've gotten yourself into. :D Long after the MWO servers have been shut down (and I mean DECADES after) you're still going to be making lore videos, covering all of the intervening fluff, all of the little details of the lore that you were forced to skip over in the name of brevity, and STILL you will be receiving requests to cover this or that aspect of the lore that someone heard of once, and wants to know more details about. :D I, for one, as one who knows nothing beyond what was included in the single player games, thoroughly enjoy and greatly appreciate the efforts you go to, and will probably be watching your Lore videos until one of us retires first. :)
And that is a task I happily take onboard. The lore of the Battletech universe for me transcends the gameplay for me any day. The stories, characters, politics, events and feel of the universe is so good and I am happy to make these for people who are interested in learning more.
As a Loremaster, I appreciate the effort you made but you are leaving chunks of stuff out that are critical.
Post FASA it isn't Battletech for me personally and I only use content from 2750 to 3060 but most of the time I try to stick to the battle of Tukkayid. All information and I mean all is from the books. These videos are just short introductions/overviews of clans and I don't want them to run overly long. Sure I could make a 20-30 minute of the clans or any faction in the universe but I am pretty sure 99% of people don't want to listen that long.
I was talking about the FASA era myself because it was those books that I originally got when I started building up my collection. I get what you mean by not making it too long but when you leave stuff out I scream at the monitor. ;) Gratitude for taking the time to do this.

Like I said, the content for the clans is massive and literally including everything from say clan wolf sourcebook would be a massive video that would just be boring. A general history works. However the plan is to cover major operations further down the line like operation klondike, tukkayid, the widowmaker debacle, wolverine and it's exodus amongst others. Remember this is an intro, then it's the individual clans, then after going through the periphery and comstar/comguards I will go to major conflicts.
Cool. Thanks again for giving the Clans time.
Know thy enemy even more nad hate the vat born bioweapons even more.
I've bee waiting for this! sounds like ya got your work cut out for you when do each clan individually. I'm super intrested In the comstars.
+VectorGhost Yeah the clan ones are going to be pretty difficult after looking at the books again. They are all from the perspective of some clanner informing you of the clan rather than a factual look at them. Still I will hopefully be able to drag something together.
Critical Rocket looking forward to it CR. Sidenote how effective where Land Air Mechs in terms of lore, well scratch that, how well could an aerotech fighter do against a mech? aerotech seems to ge the least amount of love in the universe
+VectorGhost Well the LAM's were quite weak, since their weapons and armour were the same as the 'mech version so they suffered in that area. They also had to contend with the conversion tech which may have reduced ammo or armour. Basically they didn't fare all that well in either field.
Aerotech was left out more because when you had to choose between fighters and space battles, or giant humanoid machines for war. Most people will go with the machines on the ground. Still they do make a full aerotech game to this day, if you haven't already, check out ironwindmetals.
Critical Rocket Fair enough point, i still dream of a day when they add in aerotech to a mech warrior game so i can use my flight sticks an give you land guys air coverage. i think they are in the new turn base mech warrior game coming out? not 100% sure. And yeah ill give it a check isnt that a table top game? if so, i dont think mech warrior table top is big over here, as warhammer (which im going back into)
+VectorGhost I think Aerotech in the HBS game is going to be a call in system rather than a unit you command on the field. I would like to see a proper combined arms Battletech PC game one day that features space and land battles with all of the infantry, 'mechs and tanks alongside the VTOL, dropship, warship, aerospace and helo forces too.
Wow so much information thank you!
How far off are the Pentagon's world to the Inner Sphere? Are we talking about days, months or years of travelling to get there?
Quite a distance, several years originally but with the coordinates it's still months of jumps away.
Okay thanks for the answer. When I saw the intergalactic map from sana.wiki the distance doesn't seem so far off, but I guess in reality it is.
I need info on the Jihad please, Thanks
Hi Mr. Rocket,
Don't know if its been discussed before, but these lore clips might work better over gameplay footage?
Love the videos, keep it up.
+Will Voggenreiter It has been mentioned before but the main issue is you don't see the 'mech, you just see a cockpit and me shooting some stuff which isn't really indicative of the lore. Plus the information being relayed is lost over AC fire or even with the sound off, people would watch the fighting and miss the info. Other issues include the fact that some of these are roughly 2 minutes long which isn't much time to show off the 'mech anyway.
The best solution would be some kind of spectator cam footage of the 'mech stomping around but this creates an issue where I have to get people to create a private match and me spectate record and direct them to do what I want them to do. Frankly it's too much hassle for what amounts to 2-4 minutes of dialogue. If PGI ever give us free floating camera's in testing grounds I will go back and re-do all of the 'mech videos.
Taking a break from RogueTech, heh.
What I want to know, is about is about the second Star League.
The short lived second league. It will be done, probably covering events like Operation bird and bulldog alongside their intervention during the battle of Coventry.
Ghost bear are the kings of the clans as Steiner is the spheroids
Ghost bears are dirty traitors
DSRT888
How so? Was not a return to the Inner Sphere the Clans' goal? Are you upset that Clan Ghost Bear got a head start on the Clans' true final objective? You want traitors, look at Clan Nova Cat.
Do you have a video on comstar? If not can you make one?
+Joshua Villarreal Comstar vid will be coming after the clans are finished. So it's a little while off but Comstar is on the way :)
+Critical Rocket sweet! thanks.
FREEBIRTH!
Well if this go by mechwarrior online lore, the clan mechs got nerfed so the inner sphere could win, ppc and guass got nerfed because mech pilots on the battlefield cried and could not cope, laser weapon received multiple ghost heat penalties to force players find more less effective measures take down mechs. The battlefield was filled by the cries of mechwarriors whinging nerf this nerf that because players where to stupid and stood in same spot and get shot in the face, they didnt have brains or intuition to use the hills cities or mountains to avoid getting hit or strategically take down an enemy. Oh if you got jumped by 3 enemy mechs your team continue to retreat leaving you fight to the death while they save their precious arse. The dev gods introduced the dreaded ELO system that put good players in with less able teams which resulted in losing the majority of matches and winning only a handful matches when you were lucky enough to meet a team that knew what they were doing thats the end of the mechwarrior online lore
not "mekti",
"metshti"
Could you break down metshti phonetically? Would be better for me in future use of the name.
me(like the sheep does)
ch(as in chips)
ty(the ty sound as the 'ti' in the word "still")
me-ch-ty.
Dror Yuditski
Cool thanks :)

Cool, I learned something new today. Also, not sure how many here will find this interesting, but the Clan word "seyla" is phonetically identical pronunciation-wise to the Portuguese expression "sei lá" which contextually translates to "I have no fucking idea". I am a Clan fan and will happily let out a hearty "SEYLA!" in game, inside I am laughing at all the Clan players shouting "I HAVE NO FUCKING IDEA!"
@@GhostBear3067 Or perhaps it's a phonetic copy of the hebrew word "selah" (as used frequently in the book of psalms at the end of a verse or refrain) which is a directive for one to take a brief pause in order to reflect on what was just said or to meditate on what just happened.
Ah, the Clans - Battletech's most infamous Mary Sues; a faction that could only happen if one heavily suspends logic, in order to accept that battle-hardened veterans of 14 years of war, reclaiming their homeworlds, would, in significant numbers, voluntarily leave those worlds undefended, with the full knowledge that foreign powers would swoop in and exploit those homeworlds, despite holding an edge in technology and skill and the inherent advantage as defenders.
Clans I hate the Clans. Die Clanners....whats that Wolfs' Dragoons, Cranson Snards Irregulars and the Black Widows are all Clan Wolf...*Facepalm*...I love the Clans, go Clanners hwahooo....still using Inner Sphere tech.
+Richard Layton So after the Clans came to light my loyalties lie with in the Mercenaries above under employ of House Davion over all under Clan Wolf never using Omni Mechs.
+Richard Layton I like merc companies like the Blue star irregulars, eridani light horse and just because the name is cool, Smithson's chinese bandits. Kell hounds, snord and dragoons are all cool and everything but Inner Sphere pilots for life *NWO theme hits*
Richard Layton to be fair in a snow raven in most battletech rpg campaigns the wolves are fucking scary but still fuck house Davion to be fair most inner sphere bastards are just as bad its just that Davion is worse than the rest
Darr Venom Fier Nah House Kurita is the worst. Just look at the Kentares Massacre.
