I just received my new M4 13" iPad Pro and spent a lot of time comparing it side by side with my M1 mini LED 12" iPad Pro. The screen brightness and resolution is almost identical. I looked at HD Dolby Vision content on Apple TV side by side and only if I scrutinize the screen, there might be a very slight improvement in resolution on the OLED M4, for example, looking at a necklace or braided hair in Avatar Way of Water ... but I have to look super close to notice any difference. Anyone who already has an iPad Pro with mini LED is not missing out on image quality. There is a very slight difference in 'whites' between the 2 iPads, the mini LED M1 has a slightly 'blueish' white, the M4 OLED a slightly brighter 'ever so slight yellow tone' ... and arguably the bluer whites on the M1 mini LED might be considered more true white. But these differences are so minor as to almost not be noticeable at all. The older mini LED screens are already spectacular. But interestingly, I also have an old 2018 12" iPad Pro and although its screen is much darker, almost a sepia colour compared to these other 2 OLED M4 and M1 mini LED iPads, I often prefer to watch content in the evening on the older 2018 screen because it's much gentler on the eyes in a dark or dim room. So unless a person really needs the hardware specs of the new M4 OLED iPad Pro ... we'll see after WWDC whether some of the upcoming Ai functionality requires this newer hardware ... or to use the latest version of Logic Pro or Final Cut Pro for iPad ... then no one should feel like they're missing out ... all iPad Pro's going back to 2018 are super respectable devices and throughout the day I switch from iPad to iPad and never really notice the difference unless I'm really paying attention. I love all of them! One thing I will add, is that the new keyboard for the M4 13" iPad is excellent. I just got it today and it feels so comfortable and natural, that there's no adjustment needed, the viewing angle of the iPad when on the keyboard stand is perfect.

I'm a paid youtube user, i've watched a lot of videos about m4 ipad pro (cos i ordered one - can't wait) and I have to say, I enjoyed your video. Other reviewers should take a leaf from you, Dave2D and MKBHD book and add more of their opinion in their reviews, - like you've done in this one. Too many "reviews" I've watched from big channels just read out a feature list and talk about how nice it is. Never forget to BE CRITICAL that's part of the job of being a reviewer. Also everyone else just talks about how iPadOS holds the iPad back 'great hardware let down by software'. It's like all of them got together over the weekend and decided only one main narrative was going to come out. MacOS should never come to iPad. EVER. Stage manager is enough (it can be better) and there ARE apps that push your 120hz display like Genshin or Resident Evil, that allow you to render 3D objects, that allow you to create everything from shopping lists and word docs to videos, music and art... I mean, what MORE do you need!? Oh you want a calculator, is that what you're gonna complain about? You want MacOS like a MacBook with m3 max chip doesn't exist already (and iPadOS and MacOS already work and talk to each other so you can literally have the best of both worlds)??? Sorry for the rant, but so tired of sub par content (which I pay for) from channels which should be able to do ALOT better.

I have a 2018 ipad pro, an m2 MacBook air, and a 4090 build - most of my use cases for my air are just watching multiple live sporting events at the same time in multiple tabs with a podcast running on youtube…. with the new keyboard and the lightness of the ipad do you think i would have a better media consumption experience?

I have one, it’s my little on the go sketchbook, and it’s all I need to be honest for that form factor. The pro on the other hand, this is what I need and my M1 lags on bigger projects. Wacom make horrible on the go solutions, and if you want something overpriced for what it is, it’s Wacom. The M4 pro is going to be great! Problem with 90% of tech reviewers is that they don’t make big longer form content. It’s just quick stuff. Even art channels now, because most the art reviewers only do 1 drawing. They don’t test huge art projects like comics, bigger animatics or just 4k hand drawn animation.
Tru that, but I have given up the hope. According to all leaks, even when they finally decide to release new mini, the changes look very generic and so uninteresting. Like newer chip and that´s it.

Yea I got m1 only feature I wish I had was the hover feature. Editing photos would be a lot easier. If they added a data transfer port to the Magic Keyboard I would upgrade but I’ll wait two years for this to go down 500 before I my whole iPad set up to upgrade. Also there’s not many cases out for the new iPad yet.
We need an iPadOS and iPadOS Pro version of the OS, iPadOS as is for basic iPads and a pro version that runs on M series iPads pros that isn’t macOS but takes its best features and a reversed catalyst support so you can install macOS app (dmg files) just like Mac can run iPad apps! That would fix it
I need Windows on my $1200 Tab S9 Ultra, but that isn't about to happen, as it is unlikely on the iPad. Why? Because it is unlikely to have any upside but will add extra costs and be messy with the transition. Do what sensible people do, buy a tablet and laptop combo. A no-compromise solution.

M4 iPad is pure flex. It’s a statement in a coffee place. Ridiculously thin slate that rivals the best mobile processors in the market, M4 is at the level of any high end thin and light, 185H or 8945HS or X elite. If you don’t need all that power even the base 349 iPad is packing a faster chip than 8 gen 1 or Dimensity 9000. More than enough power. The base 11 inch is a better deal than the old 11 inch though, the old one didn’t have mini led and less storage I believe.
Apple states that people upgrade iPads every seven years, so anyone complaining about the M4 being overkill has a narrow view. They should understand that an M4 in 5-7 years will still be contemporary. So, I shake my head in wonder when people claim the M4 should not exist on an iPad and can only assume they are flexing. If I buy a tablet for seven or more years, I want the best features and performance, so paying extra for the display, speakers, chip, RAM, and storage is sensible. I currently have a three-year-old M1 iPad Pro, which I will keep for another three to four years. The seven-year value is more than reasonable ($200 a year). People spend $100,000 on a car and lose $40,000 walking out of the dealers, so value is subjective.

They are not tablets, and Tandem OLED is patented, so they cannot possibly use them. They are dual pand smartphone OLEDs, and no other OEM has them display over 7 inches.
Heres a reason to buy the S9 Ultra instead: pc games and nintendo switch emulation just works! Also aspect ratio is much friendlier for videos/gaming. Also price ofcourse. I could pick up a used flagship s9 Ultra with a keyboard for half of this. I know because I have one since launch last sept.
Yes, the S9 Ultra is old and will soon be discontinued, so you can get it cheap. The Tab S10 Ultra is the real rival and will cost nearly as much as the iPad Pro M4. I can also get a two-year-old iPad Pro M2 for half the price of the M4! It would help if you compared like-v-like, not an 18-month device that they discount due to being shelved. Also, that has only 2-3 more years OS support; the iPad M4 will have 6-7.
is the slight grey line around the edges gone on this one ? on the mini led models this was, for some reason a thing. it made it look like the screen wasn't laminated. i really hope this isn't the case on these OLED models.
I am going to hold off and wait till M5 arrives. By then, I am expecting the 11" to go to 12" but they are keeping the same formfactor so that the current magic keyboard will fit due to the shrinking off the bezelsize. Something needs to be done about them bezels, the iPad looks so dated. I am also hoping to see they incorparate iphone 15 pro rounded edges to increase comfortability.

Eh. While i get it that people must compare it with apps that are out right NOW its not really what its for. We'll absolutely have apps that will be more demanding + AI etc down the line. The price isn't that bad either tbh, I bought a OLED monitor for my PC, i paid almost as much for that one alone (yes it's larger, sure). A top of the line Intel CPU - you can easily be looking at spending almost what an iPAD Pro 11" costs alone! This is far more than OLED display (it's 2x OLED display in fact) + a current CPU (though of course they are the main expensive parts), then add camera, audio, memory, the whole sleek design aspect of it etc.

No one in the history of tech has ever said or claimed that Apple is anything other than expensive. As you say, crazy prices, but you either say no or pay up. I prefer macOS and iPadOS, so I will stump up the extra cash and try to forget about the cost ASAP!

All the others are just "i will show now me using my pocket knife piercing the flesh of the hyper-vegan non-plastic seal, to reveal the mysterious device ..." of course I'm exaggerating, and biased. I want to know what you have told, which is this relative-battery-life statistic, shared AT EMBARGO time. Thank you. (Edit: not exaggerating about just the 2nd. and yours is more comprehensive.)
Battery life will come. However, the facts are that the review units do not have the out-of-the-box update coming to iPadOS and that in the first week, iPadOS does a lot of background work, so a battery test would be unreflective of what we will see.
Is the term “Pro” marketing or is it the intended use? For those who would pay upwards over $3,000 for a Pro, some would also have internet service beyond 1Gbps. I would think someone with 5 or even 10Gbps service is asking themselves…and Apple, “Where’s WiFi7?”
Apple obviously does not use the "Pro" moniker as a professional machine designator. For example, the iPhone 15 Pro Max is a Pro but is not necessarily for professionals. The "Pro" is like the "Ultra" on Samsung; it is labelled the top of a range device. You should not take marketing literally. You can just judge each product on its own merits and come to your own conclusions.
Many people in the richer parts of society can easily afford this. Apple targets the nouveau rich and continues to make billions doing so. Sadly, I am nouveau poor so not happening for me, but if I won the lottery, you would see me at the local Apple Store stocking up!
One other video talked about the same 2x battery life - a test watching The Rings Of Power or something on an M2 Ipad Pro - she got 100% to 50% on the m2 and 100% to 74% on the M4. 2x. @@NickRichards It might be a “lightly used” iPad, but it’s still a 2 or so year old iPad. Without knowing its battery health that test is meaningless. Same for the one in this video. But I’m sure we’ll see some scientific tests soon enough. Don’t get me wrong, I would be very happy if the new iPad got double the battery life of the previous generation, but I feel like Apple would’ve made a huge point of that in their keynote. Doubling battery life in a smaller device is pretty unheard of.

Besides that it would be an incredible feat from a technical perspective, there’s no way they doubled battery life and didn’t make it a core part of their keynote presentation. Apple isn’t exactly known for being humble. Edit: Tom’s Guide has now published their (properly scientific and usually very accurate) battery life test results, and the 2024 iPad Pro lasts about 13:13 hours (14:50 with a bunch of features disabled, but that doesn’t count), while the 2022 iPad Pro lasted for 10:37 hours. Even with the cellular radio, attention aware, and other features disabled, a best case scenario, the 2024 iPad Pro gets about 1.4x the battery life of the previous M2. In a realistic scenario, it gets closer to 1.25x. Don’t get me wrong, those are still impressive numbers, but it’s a far cry from your claims. “Double the M2’s battery life” is just objectively incorrect.

You buy an OLED for the blacks, not the whites. If, like me, you use a predominantly white background, miniLED is better.

Eh. While i get it that people must compare it with apps that are out right NOW its not really what its for. We'll absolutely have apps that will be more demanding + AI etc down the line.
The price isn't that bad either tbh, I bought a OLED monitor for my PC, i paid almost as much for that one alone (yes it's larger, sure). A top of the line Intel CPU - you can easily be looking at spending almost what an iPAD Pro 11" costs alone! This is far more than OLED display (it's 2x OLED display in fact) + a current CPU (though of course they are the main expensive parts), then add camera, audio, memory, the whole sleek design aspect of it etc.

No one in the history of tech has ever said or claimed that Apple is anything other than expensive. As you say, crazy prices, but you either say no or pay up. I prefer macOS and iPadOS, so I will stump up the extra cash and try to forget about the cost ASAP!

I think most people won't need this iPad pro M4. The amount of iPad pro + keyboard + apple pencil pro is too much. I rather get a MacBook pro. I think I will get the new iPad air with apple pencil pro is good enough
It is expensive upfront, but if you keep it for 7 years, it works out good value if you make good use of it.

bro is reading the spec sheet, in the recent years a review is will have something the specs sheets dont tell you, you did give some small opinions here and there but feels like shillling ngl. Its so sad to see there is not actual performance test is these videos, what changed in these years? previously performance test was right after the design check, done with multiple benchmarks.

All the others are just "i will show now me using my pocket knife piercing the flesh of the hyper-vegan non-plastic seal, to reveal the mysterious device ..." of course I'm exaggerating, and biased. I want to know what you have told, which is this relative-battery-life statistic, shared AT EMBARGO time. Thank you.

Battery life will come. However, the facts are that the review units do not have the out-of-the-box update coming to iPadOS and that in the first week, iPadOS does a lot of background work, so a battery test would be unreflective of what we will see.

Is the term “Pro” marketing or is it the intended use? For those who would pay upwards over $3,000 for a Pro, some would also have internet service beyond 1Gbps. I would think someone with 5 or even 10Gbps service is asking themselves…and Apple, “Where’s WiFi7?”
Apple obviously does not use the "Pro" moniker as a professional machine designator. For example, the iPhone 15 Pro Max is a Pro but is not necessarily for professionals. The "Pro" is like the "Ultra" on Samsung; it is labelled the top of a range device. You should not take marketing literally. You can just judge each product on its own merits and come to your own conclusions.

Many people in the richer parts of society can easily afford this. Apple targets the nouveau rich and continues to make billions doing so. Sadly, I am nouveau poor so not happening for me, but if I won the lottery, you would see me at the local Apple Store stocking up!

That seems… contrary to common sense.
One other video talked about the same 2x battery life - a test watching The Rings Of Power or something on an M2 Ipad Pro - she got 100% to 50% on the m2 and 100% to 74% on the M4. 2x. @@NickRichards It might be a “lightly used” iPad, but it’s still a 2 or so year old iPad. Without knowing its battery health that test is meaningless. Same for the one in this video.
But I’m sure we’ll see some scientific tests soon enough.
Don’t get me wrong, I would be very happy if the new iPad got double the battery life of the previous generation, but I feel like Apple would’ve made a huge point of that in their keynote. Doubling battery life in a smaller device is pretty unheard of.
why is it contrary. m4 is more efficient. snapdragon 8 gen 3 much better battery life than gen 1. silicon get more efficient.

Last time that happened was when Apple switched from Intel to M1, and they made a huge deal out of it. Besides that it would be an incredible feat from a technical perspective, there’s no way they doubled battery life and didn’t make it a core part of their keynote presentation. Apple isn’t exactly known for being humble.
Edit: Tom’s Guide has now published their (properly scientific and usually very accurate) battery life test results, and the 2024 iPad Pro lasts about 13:13 hours (14:50 with a bunch of features disabled, but that doesn’t count), while the 2022 iPad Pro lasted for 10:37 hours.
Even with the cellular radio, attention aware, and other features disabled, a best case scenario, the 2024 iPad Pro gets about 1.4x the battery life of the previous M2.
In a realistic scenario, it gets closer to 1.25x.
Don’t get me wrong, those are still impressive numbers, but it’s a far cry from your claims. “Double the M2’s battery life” is just objectively incorrect.
