Isn't it amazing that Mary's breath control here at 48 years is almost as good as the stunning first record of 1956, when only 21 years old? The quiet Land of Erin is in many ways most probably her best ever song, at least many admirers think so too. Also Ailiu Ennai is a true gem like Oromobhaidin. And Bring me a shawl from Galway is brilliant and timeless.Mary O'Hara was the best ambassador Ireland had for many decades. She deserves a statue.

It's a puzzle - just how can anybody sing so sweetly?

I needed another dose of this melody which is delicately exquisite and laments days long gone unable to return.

It is amazing, having been close to Mary and Padgraig since 2000, it is now that I truly discover who Mary really is. as a student of Pat, and a close friend to both, I must say the voice is breathtakingly exceptional. Thanks for being your son in Tanzania.

I first listened to this over 20 years ago and this song brought back such happy memories, like everyone else here this tune is delicately exquisite.

So this is the song that the opening theme to Patriot Games (1992) was based on. Finally found it

Beautiful song - beautifully sung by a very talented and beautiful lady. I have been a fan since I first heard her perform at The Guild Hall in Londonderry in 1991. Her goodness radiates from her face.

Beautiful - As a child I used to sing operatic gobbledygook trying to be Mary Ohara after seeing her on the Val Doonican show - definitely one of the reasons I grew up to love Trad music

Certainly I understood the comparison you were making. This is why I gave the example of McCartney, who was 48 in 1990, and was also a famous singer at the age of 21 too.
I am not criticizing Mary at all, she is my favorite singer.

48 isn't so very old though. You wouldn't say Maybe I'm Amazed that Paul McCartney in 1990 still had good breath control.

I was born at the end of WW2. My father served, but by the time he saw active service, it was all over and he was relegated to guarding prisoners - many of whom he felt sorry,

To Magimystery.Maybe you should read again?Didn't you notice that I COMPARE the ages of 20 and almost 50.A lot happens in 30 years and 9 out of 10 singers have far less breath(quite normal). But you can also include in your opinion that Mary didnot(or hardly)sing for a long period, when in monastary.Further you might take in consideration that many folksongs Mary sang were slow and fragile, demanding breath, not to be compared with other musicstyles such as pop and rock, with uptempo repertoire

Padraig, I wonder how you are. The last contact with Mary you were seriously ill. Hope all turned out well and that you are back on the islands. Love to Mary, a Dutch fan since 1964 !
